I’m 70 and boating since I was a kid. I have seen a lot of stuff over the years but, I will have to admit this is one of the best saves I’ve seen. Quick thinking and logic by a lot of people, working in coordination. Most situations like this are total chaos with no coordinated effort. Love your channel and narrative. You provide lunch time entertainment to my wife and I daily. Moved from South Florida back in 2004 and don’t miss the boat ramp chaos, which just gets worse and worse every year. Now enjoy boating on small lakes up here in north central Florida. A lot more peaceful. Keep up the good work.

@kw57rx8dr.9
@kw57rx8dr.9 2 года назад
@@240LTS Possibly, and the pump couldn't keep up but when they were being towed it was ok because it pushed the water back out the hole but fully caught up and refilled once it slowed down again especially with boat wake catching up to the boat and the opening just barely above water line the water rushed back in way too fast for the pump to keep up and began going down again. It was very creative to use the second boat to raise the stern though I've been boating a long time and that's the first time I've seen that, hope I never need it though. I know a lot of people who boat today don't understand that if you leave out the plug or whatever if you notice in time, you can just put the boat in gear and as you move it drains out the water and then you can put the plug back in unless, like nowadays in many cases, you have no access to the transom drain.

"Keel Guard" is a great product, it saves the hull from scrapes when they come to a rocky or cement shore. Second, these guys did alright in my opinion, saving her from a complete dunk in the water--which could have cost them thousands of dollars. Last, to boater and non-boater, tell me, what is the most probably cause of the near sinking? And do you know how to prevent it from ever happening? I GUARANTE you these boaters either knew--or learned during this episode, and will NEVER forget it. ONE LAST TIP, keep her on the downslope while she drains, let every drop come out before pulling onto level ground. If you are blocking others, pull up, but later, when it is clear, back down again, drain plug ou and let here drain. You will lose a ton of weight that way, get every drop of water out.

Would be great to have found out why this boat took on as much water as it did. I agree with a few comments here about the open door at the stern to the starboard side of the engines, that door being open would allow water to vacate the vessel while underway. I would think the breach would be from a lower point on the boat. I keep a spare high-low bilge pump on my boat just incase. It may not be the cure, but it might buy me some extra time. Had to use it once when my float switch failed and bilge filed with water, mostly from washing down the deck with onboard hose. Hit the manual switch for the onboard bilge then tossed the spare pump into the bilge to vacate the water in half the time. Always keep a spare bilge pump and always check your main pump before you leave the dock.

My rule #1 is check the plugs! I broke it the other day because I had a lot on my mind and forgot. Halfway off my trailer I realized my mistake and caught it in time. Water is unforgiving and the second you don't respect it, it's going to hand you your ass or kill you. I'd rather see a boat scratched on the ramp than sunk in the water but it's life over property. Be safe! ETA it doesn't take a lot of time with a drain plug out to take on a lot of water. It happens faster than you think.

Very good work, and not a moment too soon. That boat was going to roll in another minute. Getting the trailer under it in quick order was also the right move, but NOT hauling it out while still half flooded! Boats are not built to withstand that sort of force from within. The trailer should ideally never support much more than the dry weight of the vessel. With it in place, the boat isn't going anywhere, so the most urgent issue is solved. Something then has to be done to stop the ingress of water, at least to the extent that the pump can get ahead of it. Even a tee shirt or a cushion will often serve well enough, given that the danger has passed. Then the boat can be hauled out progressively further as it bails.

I wonder if the engine bracket platform began to leak. If their was a breach in the bottom of the hull you think the water would have been pouring out of it when they trailered it.

i think the bilege pump can overcome the bracket platform leak. I think the reason for this must be some crack on the hull.
@meauxjeaux431

That's what I was thinking also. The fact that they didn't power in also adds a lot of weight to that theory.

I have a similar bracket on my boat. The bracket and the hull are 2 separate compartments, with 2 separate plugs. If the bracket fills with water, it will drag the stern down. If it gets down far enough, no bilge pump will bring the stern back up unless its in the bracket.

This is how all boaters should be!! Be in charge of your car/vessel and make sure it doesn't sink. They didnt just give up like everybody else and watch their car/boat roll down the rest of the way helplessly!

Seeing where water is coming out after they get it pulled out, I think the hull is OK, as well as throughhulls etc. I think a hose came off their live well and they were pumping water in. Once they're low enough in the water for that big door on the starboard transom to go under the deck will fill very quickly. i mean, aside from a bit of water splashing off the pod when they jerked it, the only water coming out is the bilge pump. If the hull can keep water in, it also can keep water out.
@zandemen
@zandemen 2 года назад
Actually, scrap my original theory. There's a lot of water coming off that pod. Nobody would be stupid enough to run control and fuel cables through the pod and transom below the water line, right? Right? OMG, i think they did. it was not an accident, it was designed by an idiot.
