Thanks for the shout out! I don't think the commenter meant any harm by his comment but he definitely didn't consider the fact that I've been shaving since before I had a beard. People like to displace their insecurities in my direction because I'm taboo in this hobby. Like my opinion isn't valid because I have a beard. Damn fools!

Great shave, Chris! DK is good peeps and very knowledgeable. For those wishing to dabble in the pillars of funk...DK's ur guy! Great advice on technique. I'm about 14 shavette shaves in and yes I still nick myself, a little weeper here and there, but shave is irritation free. I used to get a lot of razor burn ...or blade burn before figuring out the correct angle for an open blade. One of my favorite shaves is a shavette shave. Still working on the technique as I miss spots still, but it's a learning journey. Have a great week! Congratulations to the winners 🏆! And just in case.... TECHNIQUE

@IAMCDB
@IAMCDB 2 года назад
I don't agree with fuzzy really:) Some are more luxurious than others, some smell better, some might lather in a more creamy fashion, but ultimately all will work:)
@ivermec-tin666
@ivermec-tin666 2 года назад
@@IAMCDB Fuzzy has a peculiar way of expressing himself. I think that is really what he means, they all work, with practice. He claims that Williams works (many would disagree), but he definitely prefers the vintage tallow based Williams to the later vegetal Williams. Clearly, some software and hardware is more pleasant. It is a luxury to have so many choices. Our great grandfather's were not so lucky. This is a good time to be a wet shaver. So many choices. Fuzzy is not a luxury kind of guy, though he does seem to be able to shave with any piece of hardware, as do you. That is an admirable skillset.

I remember when I first started DE shaving. I had a few soaps, one boar brush and one razor (merkur 34c). I should refer to this as the Nick Shaves beginner’s setup lol. Anyway, I was going slow, step by step watching Nick Shaves on my phone and then doing what he did in front of my mirror. I think within just a few shaves I got comfortable that I could do this on my own. So what changed? It wasn’t the gear. Technically my TECHNIQUE improved. And then I went down the rabbit hole into getting more gear or maybe it was a cave cuz I can’t seem to find my way out…nor do I want to so don’t send any search parties. Have a blessed day Chris.

Great shave using the mighty Weck. It really is an attractive razor and scales. If I ever venture into shavette world it will be either the Weck or Feather SS. I agree with you about technique and also not ditching razors that don’t work for you at the start. I have revisited my first razor the Merkur 34 c which I thought I didn’t get along with. But today I used the 34 c with a Gillette 7 o’ clock SS razor and had a wonderful irritation and nick free shave. Blessing and prayers for you and your family. Have a great day Chris.

I don't know what took me so long, but you finally got me to order a tub of the Body Shop Maca Root. I think it was the Amazon link. ;) I agree with you on not knocking RU-vid shavers with facial hair. It's hard enough for me to remember to keep my sideburns even, and that's a less than two inch boundary line that's easy to police. I had a beard long ago but plan never to have one again because of all the work and mishaps. I've often wondered why viewers are never shown, or at least told, what goes into facial hair maintenance during and between shaves. After all, what you don't shave off matters as much as what you do. I plan never to go that route again, but I'm curious. So I can't imagine others aren't, too. Just a thought. Hope your wrist gets better on its own. Take care.

Thank you Warren. I'm gonna tell you the absolute truth. Anyone with a reasonably level of dexterity can shave anything, with just about anything, given time and practice. This is something almost anyone can do. Some folks make it seem more complicated than it is:)

Great shave Chris!! I agree that TECHNIQUE is key… but with a caveat… my technique is solid with a straight or a shavette, but my choice of software I pair with that technique also makes a difference in the quality of the shave, case in point, I just prefer super slick soaps when using a straight blade.. a soap that’s drying and “sticky” just don’t hack it. Great shave today, and have a good one.

I buy equipment for my personal enjoyment. I spent 26 years of active duty shaving my whole face (except the 'stache I've had since high school and basic) so part of retirement was growing at least a goatee. My TECHNIQUE issues come from me wanting to experiment with straights and shavettes. Hell, I've shaved with a wind up razor in the field. I got back into wet shaving cause I like it, not to impress anyone or denigrate anyone that doesn't do it like me. Might have to get some of the Maca Root, it's getting warm and I like to increase the slickness when the Florida heat sets in. Hope you had a great Easter, Chris...

When starting out wet shaving it's tempting to try many new safety razors. Instead for the first 4 months I improved my TECHNIQUE shaving with my first safety razor. Master your technique first and you can successfully shave with any new razor.

I have to say I think M and M THE GREAT BEAR might be my new #1. Very slick great post shave performance. I understand what you say about the software, I feel like its a few percentage points above A&E and well ahead of PAA. Did I mention a great smell...

Nice shave Chris, and of course I agree. 😌👏 I remember someone a couple of years ago deluding himself about how he thought he was part of a straight shaving elite because he did a full face shave. Whilst it is true that some people do easier shaves than others, and some people have much thicker beards than others, and some have more difficult growth patterns than others, what this fellow was suggesting is absolute nonsense in my opinion. A good shaver is a good shaver regardless, and so is a bad one. When I shaved off my goatee a few years ago, the shave undeniably became more tricky but in just over a couple of weeks I’d learned all the new sequences, strokes and stretches and they were embedded in my muscle memory, so it’s hardly rocket science. Have a great Easter and my best wishes to you and the family. 😌

I agree, Dave. Ultimately you have to figure out what works for your face. When you do, the magic happens. You'll notice that good shavers almost always shave well, regardless of product. A good craftsman doesn't blame their tools as they say. Happy Easter to you and your family sir.

The Mighty Weck! I did finally get a couple of Sextoblades and it's much larger razor than the other Wecks I have. I'm still looking for a reasonably priced short blade Weck to customize and that might be a fun shaver. Admittedly I may have thought that early on and never voiced that opinion, but as your journey continues and your technique, knowledge, and experiences advance, those kind of thoughts evaporate from your mind. I had a long ZZ Top beard after I'd been wet shaving for a number of years and little did I know how much work goes into maintaining a nice beard. It's a ton of work and it's much easier to just shave. Like I had mentioned a while back, wrist injuries seem to linger for a long time and it's annoying. I think there's 23 little bones in there and they're easily fractured. I jacked up my left wrist more than 35 years ago and I still have problems with it. TECHNIQUE

I know exactly where my problem areas lie, and there are two of them. The first is my uneven and irregular hair growth. The second, but most important, is the fact that I am ridiculously clumsy and I will nick myself at least two out of ten times. TECHNIQUE

Ha! If anything, I think that it can be more difficult to shave with facial hair. Shaving around it requires more precision. I have had to shave my goatee a few times because I wasn't paying attention. In terms of soaps, I am in the throes of trying many different brands and bases. I haven't tried everything but I just counted today and I have 71 soaps and samples, not counting creams, and I can't think of any that I haven't been able to use. There are small differences, some are creamier, some are fluffier, and what have you. I am enjoying using all the shaving gear I have acquired and when it doesn't go well, I assume it's my fault. Sometimes I have better subsequent shaves and sometimes I don't. I am still working on my technique and I'm not sure I'll ever stop. That's what keeps shaving interesting as a hobby. Thanks for the video. I hope you and your family are well.

Besides TECHNIQUE, is it necessary to take the blade out after every shave on something like the Twig? Or is drying it off good enough?
@IAMCDB
@IAMCDB 2 года назад
My personal preference is to always clean and dry the razors after every use. I do take the blades out. If left in a humid environment for a long time, rust will start on the blade and it will transfer to the razor.

TECHNIQUE is very important, but I’ve definitely tried some Etsy and Farmer’s Market shaving soaps that were garbage. I agree that you can get a great lather from most any well-known vendor, but venturing outside of well-known is always a risk.

Oh, I have to try for this one as it's my lady's favorite. This cream is particularly good for hand lathering...which is what she does. TECHNIQUE And yeah, any clown that claims somebody doesn't know how to shave just because they like wearing a goatee is just grabbing at low hanging fruit because they have nothing valid to state instead. Shaving isn't difficult. We're in this hobby because it's fun. Not because it's some kind of accomplishment.

As far as being a better shaver and technique the only difference I have ever noticed with gear for me is shaving angle. I get better shaves with my Karve because the way I naturally hold it against my face is nearly the correct angle versus my slim where my natural grip scrapes a bit so I have to remember to roll a bit more towards the cap. I definitely know what you mean about learning over time though because I cut myself really good twice my first year and my fiance begged me to stop shaving DE but I stuck with it.

TECHNIQUE - I need to get my Weck out and give it a spin. Glad the wrist is gaining strength - albeit slowly. One day we will have universal healthcare and you won’t have to worry about all that in-network / out of network crap. You doing the intermittent fasting again? Looks like you have lost some weight. Looking good brother!
@IAMCDB
@IAMCDB 2 года назад
Yes sir, I'm on the fasting plan again and doing well. I hope you and your family are doing well also. As to universal healthcare, that scares the daylights out of me. I have experience with the VA and with my mom with Medicare. So far those systems are having trouble and they are orders of magnitude smaller than it would be to manage universal health care. The government does a lot of things well, but being able to make quite decisions and moving quickly is not one of them. Things tend to get bogged down in red tape and other mess. One cannot afford that in life or death situations.

I like the performance of the Maca Root cream but the scent ... isn't bad (I have floral scents, rose, violet etc) but boring and not very inviting. So when I needed a tub and the cream was nearing the end I used the tub for a refill of Stirling Triumph. Sorry about that health system preventing you to get checked out in time. (Here, out of pocket expnses for health care (dental excluded- for some reason) is some $350 per year maximum: Doctor's appointments, x-rays, necessary injcetions, prescrption medicne and equpment included. 1n-house hospital treatments and stay: zero.) Have a speedy recovery - to all members of your family!

The shaving cream is not even a traditional shaving cream in the sense that it is done using Triethanolamine instead of the saponification process to make the consistency. I mean, it is okay, but nobody really knows what Triethanolamine does to your body. Generally, it is considered safe but I much rather prefer artisan products even though they are more expensive. Regarding the "shave only part of face", I can tell you my journey. First 3 shaves were bloody, yes, but after 2 weeks I was very comfortable and now after a few years, I can close my eyes and shave without getting nicks and cuts; it is super easy. Shavette, still, I will never be able to do that, but that's ok. I am now also trying the goatee look and that is harder to do than shaving the complete face. You have to think more. Enough blabbing. Happy Easter ;)
