What if you could listen in on a conversation between two devils? C.S. Lewis’s "The Screwtape Letters" takes you through letters between Screwtape, a high-ranking demon in the underworld, and his inexperienced nephew, Wormwood, and their plan to deceive man into sin and ultimately hell. Michael Knowles and Seth Dillon of The Babylon Bee discuss Lewis’s satirical masterpiece on this episode.

This was required reading in my senior high school college prep English class, back in good old 1966/67. After I became a Christian in 1970 I finally 'got' it and am a huge fan of C.S. Lewis.

@@sofiarou7603 It's been so long ago I don't remember...I was 16 and a lot of it was way over my head as far as understanding is concerned.....when I was 20 I heard the gospel, accepted Christ as my Savior and I began reading and understanding the Bible. I discovered that Satan is like a roaring lion, going to and fro in the earth , seeking whom he may devour...he comes to kill, steal and destroy. And he has an army of helpers, fallen angels who rebelled against God and were kicked out of heaven. Satan is still permitted to go before God, in Heaven, where he is the accuser of the brethren. We are all either serving God or Satan, the god of this world.

Ch 8 of the book is my favorite chapter.... "Hence the prayers offered in states of dryness are those which please Him best." Yeah, sadly we're as susceptible to the suggestions of Satan and his hordes as any unbeliever. This is one of the reasons why we need each other to be able to speak into each other's lives - one of the most brilliant analogies in the Bible is the Church as being "the body of Christ," as when one part of the body malfunctions it requires the other parts of the body to "heal" (as directed by the Head).

We need to guard that our "Patriotism" does not take the place of our Creator. When I was at the Capitol, I "got the idea" to march right up those Capitol steps, but a "still small voice" whispered, "That would be rude." By His grace alone, I listened to the second thought. Further "arming" myself with a page by page & play by play voracious re-read of this stunning author's classic handbook. Thank you both for an incredible review!

I absolutely love this book and so many other C.S. Lewis!!! C.S. Lewis did such a good job of satirically analyzing sin and the corruption of man.

Just listened to the Focus on the Family recording of Screwtape Letters at the end of a road trip Monday with my college aged sons. I'd find time on a drive with each kid, about junior high age. So much wisdom in these/CS Lewis, and early teens is an age when they process some of the complexity. This video is a great tl;dr to get started!

Thank you so very much for doing this analysis of the ScrewTape Letters! I have been contemplating for a couple of years writing a request to Andrew Klaven to review this book since he is excellent at analyzing books and authors. However, you hit it out of the park! Couldn't expect Andrew to do better! I love this!

I have yet to read this book (it will be delivered tomorrow), but listening to the conversation here and all the nuanced actions taken by the devil against us, it hit home for me that if not for the Grace of God ALL is lost. We can't win this Spiritual war alone. God bless us all.

There is so much to be found in this book that has very practical application to the Christian life. Whenever I pick it up, I will always find myself reading the eighth letter, particularly the last part, which is as good a summation of Habakkuk 3: 17-18 (one of my favorite passages) as I've ever read.

Loved this book. I read it years ago and I believe I still have the book. The audio on you tube for anyone who might want to hear it instead of reading it. John Cleese reads it. CS Lewis did a great job writing this book . Spiritual Warfare.

Lewis said that it was a very easy book to write, but it nearly suffocated him. Once the idea of demonic letters occurred, it would be possible to write them indefinitely. However, because he was writing as a devil, he had to remove from them everything nice. Everything had to be grit and nastiness. There couldn't even be any humour.

Have you considered making these longer? These are such amazing books. 30ish minutes doesn't do them justice.
