@@moisesalmonte8271his shooting will get him on the floor in the regular season, but will his defense get him on the floor in the playoffs? Hauser and Pritchard were Ding up in their limited minutes
reason why it is a wings league....forcing turnovers is more important than rim protection. Twenty blocks a game doesn’t win games if opponent shoots 40% from three and getting 20 FT. However, twenty turnovers is twenty extra possessions for a team to score. Steals>blocks.
@@jamesball5743 I meant blocks within two feet of the rim not blocks at midrange or three pointer. With stretch bigs developing a jump shot at the elbow, you can't just have a big in deep drop coverage every possession (also three second defensive violation)
Schierman looks close to a finished product. Same with the kid from Gonzaga. When you have a championship team and they are relatively young as this team is, why not draft 23 year olds? Both draftees will be 24 or close to it by season start. Stay in school kids! Enjoy your college years.
@@notmyname9625 Yeah he could work on his 3 point shooting and once his confidence grows. Then let it fly, let it fly. He shot well for the Zags from behind the arc. I will be rooting for him.
@@12thmanzag4life i agree i think he was a smart pick. Could end up being a very versatile player. His defense is very promising. He can guard literally every position on the court has shooting potential and is still a good system player on top of it. He seems like he really understands how to fulfill his role to help his team mates. Im sure he will spend some time in the g league first but he should fit right in hopefully. Im excited to see how he does in the summer league
@@12thmanzag4life i dont believe in the draft ranking system anyway 55th pick dont mean shit. He could end up being better than the 1st pick for all we know
@@notmyname9625 I just upgraded my ESPN+ package. Mark few does a fantastic job excelling skillset for the next level for future players. Doesn’t always work with all past Zags players but it is starting to show with the current players in the NBA.
@@Nimr187 "serviceable" this isn't college. Did you see the bigs that got drafted, we need another big that can handle the ball and capable of getting their own shot. Plus be able to guard at least 3-5, the league is/has changed. Look what happens when he gets switched in a pick and roll, he's put on spin cycle.
I have been a lifelong Celtics fan since bird played but I still am but I just don't like Tatum and brown but now that they drove Baylor now I'm back on
hey dog just found your channel (celtics fan) and just wanna say keep making great vids. thumbnail game is sharp and your x's and o's knowledge is definitely on point. the scheierman tape has had me absolutely on one since we drafted him and im glad to see someone who agrees
Good analysis, and good vid. Thank you. Unless I missed it (which happens), you didn't cover his defense. I really hope we keep Hauser. Besides the early part of the playoffs, everything shot he took this year seemed to go in. And he's an underrated defender.
I watched a bunch of his defensive tape too. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. Sure he gets beat of the dribble at times, but so dont the best defenders in the league. The effort is there, he has good instincts, rotates his hips well, good feel for clogging the passing lanes, and has the size to defend up to the 5 if need be. I think once he gets in the league with pro coaches and trainers he'll be able to improve his quickness. We watched Hauser go from a minus to plus defender in 2 years. I think Scheierman is starting at average and has a higher ceiling.
Honestly people try to evaluate these players strengths and weaknesses like crazy but we won't really know until they step onto the court in the NBA. IMO he looks very NBA ready, especially in the Celtics' offense, but we shall see. I don't have much concern on the defensive end. I think he will improve in that aspect especially under Celtics coaching.
The second I read he was a lefty with >30% 3pm I said welcome to Boston, when I read his stats in 37 minutes I said welcome to the rotation. It’s good he has his game formed, Brad and Joe are gonna make sure he elevates his skills, his size is what we need, the rest of his game is just a bonus.
When we do a re-draft 4-5Y from now, baller shooterman will be a top 10-15 player of his draft class. Excellent playmaker (did play backup pg for creighton), excellent shooter and crashes the glass. Defense is suspect but only against shifty guards. Has an offensive bag and doesnt shy away from contact. He will break into this rotation in the 1st 2 months of the season and play when Joe goes small over bjg (baylor vs. Queta) and when al sits on the 2nd night of a B2B. Should replace Sam hauser in Y2 in case Sam prices himself out of the celtics range.
If he doesn't do anything big this year, he can get his game polished under the excellent Celtics coaching staff, and then as you said, if Hauser wants more money than the Celtics can afford to pay in another year, he can be Hauser insurance and slide right into that spot.
I'm a Celtics fan, but I think everyone from every fan base is always overly optimistic on draft picks. With that said, I hope he contributes this season, that would be a great bonus. If he does contribute in any significant way Brad is on his way to getting his own statue.
I'd hate to lose Sam. He's talking about losing him after next season. Hauser is a very important guy off the bench, and can spot start to give Tatum and Brown some rest.
Brad is a crazy analytical guy, you know he ran spreadsheets on the dude to find a scheme ready player. It’s easier to teach skill than sport IQ so the projected star player doesn’t always equal difference maker.
His physical is similar to former Warriors, Lithuanian Team, Naismith Memorial HOF and FIBA HOF player Sarunas Marciulionis. The difference might be the quickness, Euro step move popularized by Manu Ginóbili and international experience prior to joining the NBA. Both are left handed and almost similar hight.
I’m sorry but I had to stop listening to you the moment you said an upgraded version of Sam Hauser Do you know how good Sam hauser is ? He was on his way to blowing out klay thompsons three point record until he got injured in the third quarter and has turned himself into a defensive stud that at times was locking down Luka in the finals I’m super excited about these draft picks but I’m not sure you know how good Sam hauser actually is
You know I read someone else’s comment about KP being injured and I think we could honestly give a lot of playing time to our rookies this year as an investment
In the NBA, the better you play, the taller they list you at. I've seen KD listed anywhere from 6'9" to 6' 11". The same goes for every player. I'm 95% sure Baylor is actually 6' 6". But if he starts to take those 3's and hit at over a 40% rate, you'll see him listed at 6' 8" more often than not, lol
He's definitely an upgraded Sam Hauser. He can make moves off the dribble in addition to slashing and shooting off the catch. This is a great long-term move as, like you said, Sam Hauser is likely only with Boston for one more year because he will command a much higher salary after 2025 that Boston will not be able to match.
@@christopherpederson1021 yeah right . Haha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!!! They gonna need some more help. They got lucky this year . Boston has been there at the doorstep knocking for a championship. Minnesota was fortunate enough to get as far as they did . Dallas demoralized them !! Boston shut down Dallas ! Do the math !!!! Boston Celtics are the team to beat!!!!! Go Boston!!!! ☘️☘️☘️
I’ve watched about four or five full games of him and he’s the real deal. He does it all. With his ability and size he slots ahead of Houser and PP in the rotation.
SHY(schierman) can play the small ball 5 on defense... That's CRAZY for the 30th pick!!! SHYs pick n pop is going to be one of the most effective plays in the NBA... Imagine Tatum running point and having SHY set pick, and popping out to the top of the key !!! Teams are either going to have to overplay the pop and that's less help on Tatum's drive... Or collapse hard on Tatum, leaving SHY WAAAAY too open for 3 at the key
Yeah that 2 minutes every other game that he gets to play with will be fun to watch… this video will be longer than his playing time with the starters I reckon
Scheierman is fine, good shooter, good size, probably not going to be that great on defense. He should look good in summer league because he’s an older and very experienced player, but the ceiling is pretty low. Fine for soaking up some regular season minutes but I doubt he’s ever going to be a meaningful playoff rotation guy. I’d be a lot more excited about Anton Watson, who’s stronger and a lot better defensively. Watson could actually crack a playoff rotation if he can shoot.
A guy who can slash to the basket, hit the cutter, kill it from behind the 3? This is basically a guy from the Celtics factory. He can do everything that he needs to do...except be a lock down defender. But then, that's why he's available at #30, and not in the top 3 of the draft. The Celtics offense demands a lot of intelligence, understanding of the opposing defenses, and the ability to move the ball or make the shot when you get open. This kid looks like he has all of that. Will he be a slight liability on defense? Probably. But then he will be a backup, and the players he will be facing will mostly be the other team's backups. He's not going to be guarding Giannis or Luka. Given some maturing in the NBA, this guy can be as effective as Hauser, and maybe even more. I love this pick. Notice that I think he will be able to contribute, but I'm still pumping the brakes. The assistant coaching staffs of the NCAA are littered with guys who were superstars in college but their game just didn't translate in the pros. Hope he is not one of those guys.
IMO, I think the Cs got two steals in Watson and Scheierman. Watson looks like a heady, smart player, not "OMG!" athleticism, but a smooth athleticism. And he seems to know where to be as the play develops. But this Schierman kid has not only a very sweet-looking J (reminds me of a left-handed Chris Mullin), but scouts talk about how quick of a release this Creighton kid has from 3. Brad Stevens may well be turning into the best GM in the NBA, right before our eyes.
No, he’s different from David Lee was more of a 4. Shy is a really big two who does it all puts the ball on the floor passes shoots etc. so he’s more of a wing when David Lee was more like a PF
Another thing people are kinda forgetting is that Jordan Walsh is developing. He’s def gonna show out this summer league and I can see him being a key for us soon idk this season quite yet still very raw
Could the Mega Millions ticket in my wallet be the winning one? I sure hope so. Is that remotely realitic? Nope. Saddling a 30'th pick with a comparison to an ALL TIME GREAT HOF player like Bird is, to say the least, premature, and unfair. It's like saying Queta, who is 7' tall and big and strong, should be another Joel Embid. Big, black and strong doesn't make you an Embid, just as a white guy who can shoot doesn't make you a Bird, lol
Offensively he’s more multifaceted than Hauser. He can run the team, for example. As a former great quarterback, he has great vision and anticipates the Reads before they are even there. He’s Special.
Last not get carried away being good in college does not mean you're going to end up being good in the NBA he looks promising but so of hundreds before him let's wait and see what happens
He looks good but he wont get much minutes. Most likely going to play in G League. Celtics dont normally put their newbies on rotation. Brown was number 3 pick and was only playing 15 minutes a game during his first year. Tatum got lucky cos Hayward got injured and he got to play more minutes.
Reminds me of Doug McDermott. Only weakness I see is the physical and if he can play without having ball in hands for whole game. Good bench piece hopefully Celtics can give him some time on court because Jayson and brown ain’t slowing down.
Hes def not an upgraded version of sam hauser when it comes to shooting threes. Hes also not likely to be as good defensively but that one remains to be seen i guess.
He steps in immediately as one of their best shooters and he's white - so people compare him to Sam. Token white shooter. But in all reality he's a better SCORER, slasher, cutter, passer, rebounder vs Sam being a spot up sniper. Offensively it's like comparing Herro to Robinson.
I watched Hauser at Virginia. There is no way in the world with his assets I take him over Schierman. Schierman is an all around type player, while Hauser is just a spot up shooter. The knock on Hauser in college was he didn’t play defense. Hauser has as many bad nights shooting the ball as he does good nights. He’s too predictable for me. If he misses two 3’s in a row he’ll quit shooting them. The defense can see a pattern with him. He lives by the box score. 3 pt. shooting percentage. Schierman has good handle. He is better at creating his own shot. He’s also stronger than Hauser. Not afraid of contact. I’m going to guess, but I think Schierman has a good chance of making Hauser a better player. I don’t see Schierman seeing a bunch of G league games. He’s just too good for that. And with that said, he is going to want playing time. I see Schierman being top rotation player before the Christmas holiday, which means Hauser may be playing with Schierman as a two wing tandem (mini Brown and Tatum). This combination could increase value for Hauser by trade deadline. The focus for the Celtics is concentrate on winning another championship and increasing the rotation from 8 to 10 players. This creates value and guards against season fatigue and injury.
@@jacobthomas7322 I feel this way too, I don't think his game comps to Hauser, main similarity is they both shoot 3s. I agree he looks like more of an overall scorer, we'll see if that translates to the NBA.
He sure looks like a perfect fit HOWEVER let's not forget he was picked last in the first round and among the options Boston had I think he was projected fourth (?), in a weak draft. So let's not pretend like this is a lottery pick. Crossing my fingers though that Boston's development system can turn him into a steal a few seasons down the line but he ain't that steal yet.
Shy should play in maine this year. We dont have to worry about 2 ways with him maine almost won the tittle this year let these guys bring it home see what they can do. Celtics picked up sams option this year. Sam.is not sitting on the bench over this dude that would fk up the locker room a bit sam earned his spot for this year. I agree though if shy plays great in maine then we should ship sam at the deadline for a first round pick from another team. We would prob have to bundle another guy to match about 6 mil a year but it could work. We can take on a longer project for a big younger guy.
It ain’t gonna be worth it to pay Sam no matter what imo. Just not enough money with White and Tatum’s deal going into play in 2025-2026. I think the way the celtics have to build this team is drafting minimum pay steals, developing them into decent to not horrible bench pieces, and ship em before a new contract. Could blow up in their face tho
@@enigmafiresup4658 Brad could’ve easily traded back but they clearly want him. Tatum and brown also will need more rest during the season after multiple deep runs
