Thank you for highlighting some of these craft whiskies, you found yourself a cool niche b/c nobody else really does to the extent you do. I have gotten many crafties based off your reco’s, thanks for being honest.
Just picked up a store pick of this and haven't cracked it yet. After watching this I feel like I need to get a back up before I dig in to this bottle!
Not sure you will read this. Luv your reviews. I’m from Michigan and by happenstance picked up Journeyman Corset and… and really liked it about a year ago. Catching up on some videos and watched this one. I noticed on my FB that journeyman on March 31st 180 limited edition bottles of their Masters Edition Silver Cross Whiskey will be at the distillery. Too bad I can’t get there. Distillery is on west side of state just an fyi. And, I lived in Gainesville Florida for 15/years. Head up to Michigan from Mid-may til mid October. Gorgeous. Hardly need A/c. Enjoy
I've got like 8 bottles sitting on the shelf at my store for around 60 or 70. I can't remember exactly the price. Maybe I should pick one up and give it a try.
If you want another bottle of this, I can find it in SC no problem. Interestingly, it doesn’t have a red wax top (Did Makers sue!?) but it has a silver wax top. Let me know if you are interested.
I purchased a store pick of this in late 2019. The first sip was good but I couldn’t figure out what all the fuss was about. Upon revisiting it in mid lock down late Q1, wow did it open up. Lots of cereal grain, sweet heat, flavor swirly roller coaster ride, a little youth but in a good way. I recall a wrigley juicy fruit gum note too. A pour goes a long way if you stop a savor the finish. I was lucky enough to pick up another in 2020 as a back up. Cask strength store pick is the way to go on this one.
That Weldon Mills Reserve I sent you last year is aged in the smaller barrels, every one I had tried was a banger so I picked up a bottle from the same barrel as yours...I'm sorry...that one was trash :(
I appreciate you highlighting more craft distilleries. I live in WI, so it’s been great to see you highlight J. Henry and Wollersheim. I’ve enjoyed most of Journeyman’s whiskeys, but I thought the Not a King Whiskey and Field Rye were better than the Silver Cross Whiskey.
Thanks for the review, I’ve been hoping for a full review since you’ve been mentioning this one. One of my local shops has a pick of this and I’ve been on the fence about it. 🥃
Interesting. Journeyman is fairly local to me. The best thing I've had from them was the Field House Rye. It makes for an interesting after dinner pour and also makes a tasty Old Fashioned. I really disliked Last Feather and Not a King. Corsets, Whips and Whiskey was decent but not great. So, I haven't had the nerve to try to the Silver Cross. The Last Feather is a 115 proof store pick that will either become a mixer or a drain pour.
