I saw The Boy From Oz 24 times, and Hugh got a standing ovation for this song every single time. At the last performance in September 2004, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. The words to this song made us all cry. I fell in love with Hugh Jackman because of this show. You simply couldn't take your eyes off him. Last week I saw him in The Music Man, and I still can't take my eyes off him. Nobody in the theater is having more fun than he is, and it's a joy to watch!
I love Hugh Jackman!! He can make you cry and laugh at the same time!! Such diversity, such a talent!! And yes, his talent IS God given!! I pray he's around for many more years to come.
Hugh Jackmans portrayal of Peter Allen was beyond incredible. Hugh was mesmerizing! He most certainly would have made Peter Allen proud! Bravo Hugh Jackman! Thank you for the experience!
The very first of so many to die from this horrific disease. Peter Allan left us way to soon. When He left us it was forever and we all still miss him. The stage was left dark and cold and yet thanks to shows and c.d.s we still have him to listen to and miss. Wherever you are Peter know we the fans still miss you and love you all these years later. God bless and protect you wherever you may be. Still listening to the music and remembering you a true loving fan.
How fitting that so many people discovered this because of Alex Trebek's memorial on Jeopardy. The last we saw of him on Jeopardy was still giving knowledge of the arts to his viewers.
My God! how I LOVE Hughs' performance of this song! I broke down in tears! I saw him in The Boy from Oz and he was spectacular and did a great justice to the wonderful, super-talented Peter Allen, who I loved too! Long may you reign, Hugh! You are sheer Perfection in everything you do! I hope you bring back The Boy from Oz, again! God blessed you with it all! xoxo
people who went to see this musical several times have said that he got a standing ovation after this number in every show. must have been amazing to see this live.
I am one of the lucky ones. I saw this show on Broadway. Jackman was truly spell binding. I've seen a lot of Broadway shows, on Broadway and the touring shows, but Jackman in "The Boy from Oz" truly was the best.
o m g did he just get a standing ovation and it wasnt even the finale number!!! wow that show just how amazing this mans talent is!!! that was truly outstanding!!!
...and didn't this song break our hearts and make us weep out loud before we stood and cheered. Oh, what a moment!! What a breathtaking, aching moment!
i just watched Inside the Actors Studio with Hugh Jackman, his talks of his musicals is what brought me here. This is the first time i have seen him perform on the stage and oh my goodness he is amazing!!!!!!!!! I am dying to see the whole performance!!!!!!!!!!
I meet Peter Allen when I was a schoolgirl and the Allen Brothers were just starting out. He was charismatic and very critical of his own performance. I have been a lifetime fan every since. I regret never seeing “The Boy from Oz” on Broadway.
Being in the audience when Hugh did this was the B'way experience of a lifetime. Never has such heart, energy, talent and sheer charisma been seen. He WAS Peter and he WAS magic...and no one who saw him will ever forget his easy, smiling brilliance.
I saw and met Peter Allen many times and he was one of my favourite people..Seeing Hugh Jackman do this show was a perfect tribute to Peter.... I love Hugh and have met him several times...two great talents....
You've lived a full life to have been able to meet both of these men. I've been fortunate enough to have met a few of the entertainers that I've looked up to. Hugh Jackman is on my bucket list !! RIP Peter Allen, fly high !!
Fortunate to see the show three times, and each time was more wonderful than the previous. Appreciate Jackman as performer and the great Peter Allen music.
Peter wherever you are we have not forgotten you or your memory. Think of you daily and you have never left my heart or soul. Take care and know we the ones who remember and still love you all these years later. Wherever you are the place is rocking.
This is a truly wonderful performance of a very difficult song . i close my own stage show with this and could only hope to one day match this stella performance . Some of the comments from some people are truly sad . If they could ever be able to hold a sell out audience every night in a a hit broadway show night after night as did Mr Jackman then they have the right to criticize...until then shut up ! His performance of the amazing Peter Allen was brilliant , poignant and thrilled thousands of people night after night . What an amazing job Hugh Jackman did in this role !
Hugh Jackman has a reputation for giving everything he has to do of his performances/roles. He is indeed an amazing and talented man !! RIP Peter Allen 😢
This number, just Hugh Jackman alone on an empty stage stopped the show night after night. A testament to what was the greatest male musical performance in a century.
Yes, this was after Oklahoma. The first musicals Hugh did were Beauty and the Beast and Sunset Boulevard in Australia, the Oklahoma in London, then this on Broadway.
Hugh's performances were absolutely incredible with each show. No one else could play this part ...It was made for Hugh. And, he never missed a show, not once. That's a tough gig to do when you are on stage in every scene for 8 shows a week. Just an INCREDIBLE, INCREDIBLE performance. BRAVO, HUGH!
Ceterababe I thought I was number one fan I saw it five times .. This play touched my heart and soul.. How do you thank a man who is dead rip Peter I hope Hugh touched you like he did me playing you. :( when I see all the video and play my cd I think wow not many words just wow.. I also hope Peter likes what we do for at my church.. I hope there is a place were all day we can hear music like this.. The kind that touches every part of our beings..
I couldn't have put it better myself. I go to every show that opens on Broadway every year, and his performance in this musical was better than any performance I've ever seen before.
That ovation... it must be so breathtaking and mind blowing to be up there while the audiences go mad for your incredible performance. What a feeling could that be...
In this song, "Once Before I Go", Peter knows he is dying and is saying his last goodbyes. The young boy is the "young Peter" in the play, full of life. The older Peter is looking back, reflecting on his life thru the kids eyes -still eager to live, yet, at the same time, is realizing he is dying. In the next scene, "I Go to Rio", everything on the stage is white, and it gives the impression that Peter is in heaven having a grand time and always will. There is no actual "death" scene.
