Garth Ennis’ The Boys is a brutal satire of the superhero genre that posits that it’s virtually impossible to have the kind of power superheroes do and not have that slowly make you disconnect from regular human life and empathy. Especially when combined with the dark side of fame, of maintaining a persona to promote an image you increasingly don’t care about. The result is a brutal and often depraved series of events where superpowers just make the whole thing much worse. But which powers are the worst in terms of damage or effectiveness and which superpowers were really more of a burden then they are a cool ability? Who among The Seven is an Angel Summoner and which of them are the BMX Bandit? Is there one power that puts Homelander over the top or is it collection of powers that makes him a menace that even has his corporate masters walking on eggshells? Is the ability to talk to fish like the Deep a power or a hindrance? Does A-Train have to have lost his speed because otherwise speedster characters are OP and can just solve a problem before most people know there was an issue to begin with?
