I like what Peter said to Cindy when she asked, "Why shouldn't we tease him?" and Peter said, "For the same reason you do didn't like him teasing you". Peter is more than brave, he is smart too.
Pete is so sweet he maybe be a goofball at times but he's noble and understanding he knew tht violence wasnt the answer even and tried a different way 2 approach it
Susan Olsen always struck me as being Drew Barrymore before Drew Barrymore. Had The Brady Bunch been made in the 1980s, when around the time that Drew was making E.T., she would've been perfect as Cindy.
I was bullied quite a bit myself, I never got into a real physical fight though. While violence would not be my first way to deal with situations like Peter's, I was glad he gave Buddy a good crack in the mouth, served him right and glad he learned from the experience too.
I was having a Discussion/Argument with an idealistic young co worker the other day. His feelings are that you should always walk away when the above type thing happens. I said that while fighting isn't always the answer, you have to stand up for yourself or you will be bullied. I put it in different words than that but you get the picture. I referred to this episode. Argument over!
I was very small through out high school my senior year I weighted 115 pounds so I was the target of a few bullies until I beat the crap out of a guy who out weighed me 50 pounds.
HistoryLover1550 If you watched the entire episode, you will see the reason why Buddy was so mean was because he took it from his father; It usually all starts from the home!
@@honestperson6280 I watched the whole episode. Carol and Mike were talking to each of the parents and Buddy’s parents didn’t care, especially the father.
The lesson Peter taught Buddy didn't last. A few episodes later, when Carol is writing a magazine article about the family, and the publishers come to the house for a photo shoot, Peter comes home with another black eye from Buddy Hinton.
@@billybassman21 EXACTLY! because peter didn't beat him almost to death in this episode, when he had the chance. if he had sent hinton to the hospital for a few weeks, hinton, NOR ANYONE ELSE in the school would have ever bothered peter or cindy again.
he didn't go far enough. he hit him ONCE and immediately apologized! he should have beaten the fuck out of him and said, "ARE YOU GOING TO STOP HASSLING MY SISTER??" and when hinton said "yes, i'll stop" peter should have punched him again and said "WHAT, I DIDN'T HEAR YOU. SAY IT AGAIN!!!!" in real life you need to completely CRUSH your enemy or else they might seek revenge.
andrew plotnick3 years ago In the first place, I have been bullied more times than you can imagine! I know from experience that all trying to get even does is makes the situation worse. On top of this, Archie Bunker was a very hostile person whose selfishness was constantly backfiring on him. Too bad more poeple cannot learn from his mistakes! That's not true at all, Archie for just one example of kindness, paid for his son in laws appendix operation when the kids couldn't afford it, and he did a lot of other kind things, he was outspoken (wrong AND right), and he was in your face, but under all of the bluster, he had a heart of gold and would do anything to help you, that's why you gotta love him!!!!!
Yeah, but at least the kids of yesteryear weren't going to high priced psychoanalysts, running off to their "safety spaces", and having members of Congress spending weeks on anti-bullying legislation at a time when rogue states and terrorists are getting ready to unleash. They fixed the problems themselves.
Buddy Hinton teases Cindy, gives Peter a black eye, and once Peter knocks one of Buddy's teeth loose then Buddy comes to the Brady house to ask if he can borrow Cindy's tongue twister book to help him speak with a loose tooth. The Brady parents graciously allowed Buddy to see Cindy to ask for the book. I don't think I could have let Buddy see Cindy if I were Cindy's parents after all Buddy put her through.
Its a teachable moment , And to tell the truth I think Buddy was making fun of Cindy cuz he thought she was a cute little girl but a tough guy just can't say that to a little girl without sounding weird .....just sayin
Watching this episode as a kid I always wondered why was a family with six kids of varying age ranges allowing their siblings to be tormented by some punk-a$$ ONLY CHILD. From all indications, Buddy Hinton was a solo act with no siblings and no friends at school that had his back. WTF?
Uh Buddy you asked for it!! Peter you shouldn't have apologize to Buddy for punching him in the mouth he deserved it because he was teasing her, And calling Peter a chicken!!
Yes, Buddy asked for it. But chickens are noble and beautiful creatures. Anyone called that just needs to point that out and thank the bully. The bully will lay off as it won't be fun anymore.
Honestly speaking as a kid who was also bullied in the past, I would have be honored having my brother stand up for me like that then be a pussy about it and "talk it out" it was obvious that Buddy was refusing to be diplomatic and her brother was defending his own sister.
On The Andy Griffith Show,He Portrayed Edgar Watson as Opie's friend & schoolmate & becomes a bully. Then knocks down his books on the way to class in the school corridor.
This was a teachable episode , And What I actually thought of why Buddy was teasing Little Cindy was That I think Buddy thought Cindy was a cute little girl But an Older Big kid can't really say that without sounding weird so he teased her ....
Not a left hook. More or less a low left cross jab mix. I think 20 years ago when celebrity boxing was a thing....Peter Brady vs Buddy Hinton woulda sold some tickets.
I dont agree with Peter when Cindy asked him why shouldnt we tease him. its called what goes around comes around. I wouldve socked him and then laughed at him too just like those kids did. i mean if peter hadnt slugged him he wouldve kept doing it. sometimes bullies need to be knocked down and yes mocked to see how it feels to be bullied
@bluecatky Maybe Peter didn't know that he was that strong to loosen Buddy's tooth and didn't know he would loosen Buddy's tooth even though Mike gave Peter permission to beat up Buddy.
I was bullied and use to get into a lot of fights and the school sent a phycharist to see me with out my mum's consent and then I went to another school and a special class of slow learner's and I had a low iron content and a low blood count but with my mother's help and iron tablets I finally got through that and started to really flourish and be the best person I could be lm happy go Lucky what you see is what you get with me I treat everybody with loyalty honesty and good will p.s all the bullies became best friends because they new I would be loyal friend to them love Anthony Fed ex lol
That would have proven that anger and hostility is good for one thing. Breeding more anger and hostility! Archie Bunker taught us that lesson time and again!
I guess that he was operating on the school of thought that says that two wrongs never make a right. Maybe he got the idea from a late-night episode of the "Honeymooner"!
Violence doesn’t solve anything, Peter Brady was just wrong for striking Buddy... Ha Ha Ha yeah right, when it’s time to change Peter rearranged Buddy face.
@Kurtis Brown Well, Mike Brady (Peter's dad) said that Peter has permission to beat up Buddy since Mike and Carol tried talking to Buddy's parents but Buddy's parents were sticking up for Buddy and Buddy even beat up Peter so Mike said that Peter can beat up Buddy.
@@afriendofbean they only permitted him to "defend himself" if buddy started it. if it was my kid i would have told him to bash buddy's face into a pulp with a rock when he wasn't looking and i would buy him a new bike. and if he pussed out again, he would be sleeping with tiger in his dog house until he grew a pair.
violence solves EVERYTHING. the reason the USA became the greatest country in the world is because we (once knew) how to KICK ASS. we would never have won ww2 with all these FUCKING PUSSIES we have now. are you kidding me? we would probably get our asses kicked by FRANCE at this point. america was taken over by women and feminized.
Archie Bunker; lol. What does the character of another sitcom have to do with it? You've never been bullied, have you? The best medicine for school bullies is a taste of their own. One kid who had picked on me for most of a school year got a surprise visit from one of my big brothers during a morning recess; and he was never a problem again. But oh, we should be 'tolerant'....even if the kid did go on to commit violent crimes and was recently, nearly declared a Dangerous Offender!
What I want to know is where were Bobby and Jan when all those kids were walking behind them and they go to the same school. So you would think All 4 kids would be walking together maybe 5

Unless I have my facts wrong, Christopher Knight, who played Peter, was married to Julie Schulman from 1989-92. The actor who plays Buddy Hinton is named Russell Schulman. I wonder if Peter married his bully's sister. LOL
@@sha11235 Pretty much all the child actors used as cameos in The Brady Bunch fell by the wayside. The one exception is the actress (I forget her name) who married Tom Hanks. The one actress who I am so glad never appeared again anywhere was the one who played Marcia's friend Linda "from See-AT-tull!" :D
@@nassauguy48 That was *Rita Wilson* 😀 Two days ago, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita both announced publicly that they have been diagnosed with the Coronavirus. They're over in Australia where Tom is supposed to be starting to film a new movie starting on Monday, but because he now has the Coronavirus, filming of the movie is "on hold" indefinitely. Tom & Rita are in quarantine, of course. And btw.....I wasn't crazy about Marcia's friend Linda "See-AT-tull" *either* , lol.
Back then when kids fought one one not two against one or three against one and no weapon just your fist has your weapon. And if you lose you lose the loser never came back to get even by getting his friends or a weapon or both. The loser took it as it is. I'm not saying fighting is good but back then they did it the right way.
