I'm the middle girl in my family. Older sis got to do everything 1st and i couldn't do it if she didn't. Lil sis was the baby and got away with anything. I totally understand Jan.
4 iconic phrases in American history: “ Four score and seven years ago” Abe Lincoln “Dec 7, 1941 will be a day that will live in infamy “ FDR “I hade a dream” Dr.King “Marsh! Marsha! Marsha!” The Honorable Jan Brady 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I just streamed the episode because someone posted this scene to Facbook; it not only has the famous "Marcia Marcia Marcia" line, but I was unnerved to see that at least in this one Jan actually does have that sinister inner voice they gave her in The Brady Bunch Movie (here, telling her to accept an award she alone knows she didn't fairly win)
LOL picturing Jan and Marsha playing football and Jan runs up to kick the ball and Marsha pulls it away "ARRRRRRRGRRRR!" and Jan does a triple flip and lands on her back.
This was the only time Jan said, "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" in the show. I think because it was such a memorable quote, and she said it again in the movie, anybody would believe that that was a catchphrase of hers.
Carly Steffen Yea. I thought it was a catchphrase or something she said. I was just watching the tv show Reba and they just made that Marcia joke and had Reba's daughter scream Marcia Marcia Marcia so I looked it up. Lol
F LD: She said it one time only. It was in an episode titled, "Her Sister's Shadow " (Season 3, Episode 10). She never said it again in any of the 5 seasons of the show.
Carly, I believe it's because it's what the show is about. Everybody connects with that particular statement. There is a time in your life where you felt others or a sibling of hers is seemingly getting more and more attention than she. And naturally she feels some kind of way, perhaps jealous and or angry, and you say to yourself the name that upsets you the most i.e. her sister Marcia, Marsha, Marsha! Everybody has felt that way sometime in their life and that is why the statement so memorable, then becoming popular. These shows were designed to work that way.
a lost art sadly in many families (including my upbringing). instead they just heap praise and reward or scorn and punishment rather than a mild amount of both combined with conversations around the "why".
The irony of “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” being Jan’s most famous line still makes me giggle. She always felt invisible next to Marcia, and the line we all remember most is just her saying Marcia’s name. It’s sad but hilarious lol.
Eve Plumb is such a great actress. I always tear up when I watch this scene. Also the one where she thought she'd won for best essay and later had to tell her teacher they'd made a mistake. Jan Brady represents the underdogs of life who keep pressing on.
Jan wasn't crazy, she had to watch her older sister get everything. Then try and tell your parents how you feel and they look at you like, you're going crazy, then Marcia walks in and proves Jan right. That was funny.
@@andynonymous6769 It's more like having a popular older sibling and how everyone sees you as that person's younger brother or sister and never as an individual.
My sister always got good grades in school and I struggled at times. My folks offered up their advice “Just work harder and apply yourself. You’re not dumb!” I was never compared to her nor ridiculed. I used that advice and nearly graduated Cum Laude in college. I found my talent.
"Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Jan's most famous line. I think Marcia's most famous line was, "Oh, my nose!" I think Cindy's was, "I don't tattle, I just tell it like it is."
Watching this clip makes me realise how pitch perfect, 1995's "The Brady Bunch Film" was. Gary Cole and Shelley Long were utterly flawless as was the rest of the cast, especially the two warring sisters Jan and Marcia. How they all managed to keep a straight face, is worthy of a prize in itself.
It's kind of unrealistic for kids to say in an argument. In real life, siblings definitely would not be saying things like "I don't care to discuss this"
I'm in my 20s and I adore this show. Carol and Mike were such role model parents. Robert Reed had such a handsome voice. He really knew how to straighten things out. My parents were totally shocked when they found out that he was gay. This show is such a timepiece from the 1970s.
Strange Emily I agree and I disagree- I like the way she seemed natural behind the camera BUT if you watch her enough( WHEN ITS NOT HER speaking LINE) she lip sincs other actors lines until it’s her turn. She has the WHOLE script memorized. Her lip movements can be subtle but it’s obvious
I think she finally does.. watch the After Show on RU-vid about the Brady House... all 6 kids are on it and Eve Plumb isn't mean or bitchy, like in years past.
Watching this I realise the actress who played Jan in the movie did an incredible job of nailing the original Jan's mannerisms and voice.... not just her either either, all the other actors too.
Mother: Marcia has her disappointments too. She doesn't always win." Marcia: "Guess what!! I've just been made editor of the school newspaper!!" LMAOOO!!!
Jan is the most realistic child on the show. She's the only one with real issues in her life. Low self-esteem and not always coming out on the top. That's how it works in the real world.
The first time I'm watching a Brady Bunch footage since the late 70s Can you believe it!!! I grew up on this series way back then..Thank You, You Tube and the one posting..!
Jan was the real star of the Brady's and had more rounded character development than Marcia. I was a bit old for this program when it was on prime time in the 70's, but I cherish it now. As an only child, I missed all the bittersweet complexities of siblings, so this is how I experience them, vicariously, nearly 50 years later. Thank you, Eve Plumb, for all you brought to being "A Brady".
@@harperstacey9604 ... forgive me but I've seen your posts all over the place. You really don't have to end every single post with "Ms Harper Stacy". We can all see the name of the person who posts the message. And if you're doing that because you're using someone else's account just make up your own account with your own name. It's not that hard and doesn't cost anything. Ok thank you
@@PlumbPitiful the reason I sign my name at the end of comments because when people respond to me, they think I am a male. Many people think that Harper is only a man's name when it's also a woman's name, too. I have been on social media for over a year. . I came here because of the pandemic. It shouldn't be a big deal but I don't want people thinking I am a male when I am a female. How do I correct this problem? From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@@harperstacey9604 ... it's really not a big deal of course. Sometimes people use another persons screen name such as their spouses because they can't or dont want to make their own screen name for whatever reason but still want readers to know they are a separate person. In your case I was just curious because I've never seen anyone do that before. This video will show you how to add the "Ms" to your name if you wish. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p-GI6Z5J9jY.html Or you can just keep doing what you're doing. Have a nice day 🙂
Love this show. I think of my brother and sisters and I waiting for it to come on TV each week. Great and relatable story lines.....we have all been a Jan Brady at one time in our lives.
Fun fact: Florence Henderson was born and raised in Spencer County, Indiana which is 40 miles away from where I live. Spencer County is the home of Holiday World in Santa Claus and Abraham Lincoln Boyhood Home in Gentryville.
"I've been made editor of the school newspaper! And elected most beautiful! And head of the pom-pom committee! And I have three dates tonight! Here, Jan, shine my shoes while I brush my hair."
Jan really had no reason to be jealous of Marcia. She had the most gorgeous hair. When I used to watch it when I was little I wanted hair like that SO bad.
Funny how in the later years that Jan turned out better than Marcia. There was the episode in which the ice cream parlor owner could only afford to maintain one employee rather than two, and so he kept Jan instead of Marcia. Then, in the Brady Bunch movies, Jan had both a better career and a more successful husband than did Marcia.
GREG: Adios, Johnny Bravo! MARICA: Oh my nose! PETER: Porckops and applesauce. JAN: Marcia! Marcia! Marcia! BOBBY: Mom always says don't play ball in the house. CINDY: I'm no snitcher! I just tell it like it is.
