Volkswagen delivers a very different kind of LCV with this ID.Buzz Cargo. Jonathan Crouch briefs you on it.
Ten Second Review
There's never been a van quite like Volkswagen's ID.Buzz Cargo. There are more practical EV commercial vehicles in the class, but nothing remotely as eye-catching. It's a completely different interpretation of what a medium sized LCV can be.
Background
Did you ever imagine that your company's medium-sized van would ever look like this? The styling of this Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo might be retro (based on the brand's classic T1 van) but its engineering is decidedly future-orientated. As the name suggests, it's the van version of the ID.Buzz MPV passenger-carrying model. And, like all ID models, it's fully electric and based on the Wolfsburg conglomerate's advanced MEB full-battery platform.
Volkswagen doesn't suggest this to be the most practical mid-sized EV van you could choose; it isn't. But the brand will contend that this is the most car-like LCV in its class. And, crucially, the model with the longest EV driving range. Sounds promising.

I was in the process of signing up for one on a very competitive 2 year lease. Existing insurer wouldn't touch electric vehicles. Finally got quotes elsewhere £2.5k - £4k for a year's cover. So sadly had to pull out. No a reflection on this van more electric vans in general.

Great vehicle- looks sleek, usual high VW finish inside and out, but, the price is way way too high, sorry, I can’t sanction that level of spend, get that sorted and I’ll be back.

I know this is subjective but I'll stick my neck out and say this is way overpriced in comparison to the rivals even taking into account the design. Even though you can fit two euro sized pallets in there, in the real world this would be hard to do with loaded pallets with let's say even 100kg each. Reason being that normally you would load one from the back and the other from the side due to the long reach from the rear that would be required from a standard forklift. No way of loading a pallets from the side on this since a euro pallet is 800x1200 hence that side opening was poorly thought for commercial purposes imho.

The battery management system and user interface improved a lot with the ID7. I would wait until this is also applied to the ID Buzz. The current model is overpriced.

Its too expensive for work use, I'll have to stay with the Peugeot Partner. It also wont be a classic as the batteries are sealed in the frame so 15 years and its scrap

I like the vans appearance but it's an EV and it'll be a great flop.
