When I was a kid, I thought this was the most amazing revolutionary device known to man and wanted to be a shoe store man when I grew up because they were like doctors with this thing.
I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid. At one time we had real shoe stores where a salesman would actually wait on you. Now you just have to hunt around an pull what you can off a shelf and try everything on and hope it fits.
You have provided a great service. I have wondered about this for years. I'm getting some work shoes tomorrow and I won't have to guess at what size I actually need. Thank you sir.
Thanks again for this detailed description on how to operate a Brannock Device, I was just wondering why she was a B width on her left foot. To me it looks like a 9.5 or 10 length = a size A
Thanks for posting. I was confused about how to use the width measurement when I was trying to figure out what size my children's feet were the other day. Greatly appreciated.
I need to know this well. I am working for a shoe shop in the city, I sometimes get the correct shoes and I also get the wrong ones. Its all part of learning on the job for me. I just want to master this.
Its strange youll see these today in some stores still im bout start askin shoe stores do they have one when trying on shoes and also order one so when i go buy shoes i already know my sizefor years i been guessin my shoe size no wonder imy shoes be hurting my feet at the toes makes good sense why these where around
It doesn't really matter in that range of sizes. You wouldn't want to wear a 13 if you're a 10. Your toes should have about a half inch (13mm) of space in front of them, and enough room side to side that they aren't squeezed together. The neglected measurement is heel to ball. The shoe should flex at the same point as your foot - this is at the ball of your foot - and that is where going up or down a size in length can fine-tune the fit of the shoe.
Hate buying cloths and esp shoes, never seem to get the right sizes in anything, forget buying online so it's in the store trying stuff on,think it fits ok in the store but then when I get home it seems to fit differently.. Back to store.....bahhhh
