People criticize him for it , but the results have been him being one of the most paid rappers of all time, and married to Beyonce... So I would guess he doesnt really worry about the critics that much. Thats Jays genius , that even though he might not be as good of a rapper as G-Rap, Rakim, or Kane , Rza Gza Ghostface, etc , his awareness of the buisness and marketing, made it possible for him to be exponentially more successful than all of them and make more money than they could have even imagined possible.
