In addition to English it's also oligatory that your kids pick a modern language (usually German, French or Spanish) to learn in grade 7-9, so that's another pro ☺️

You can apply to "mothers toungue"* education in school. That means your kids can learn German in school. Not sure about how old they must be. (*=modersmålsundervisning) Nice to see your view about living here in Sweden.

As a recent nurse student, I've dived into the delicate laws of Sweden, specifically the "social" laws that's tied to health and wellfare. Once you can have opinions about how the health care works sometimes. The greater laws supporting the structure of individual humane wellfare is pretty flawless and makes me very proud. Like Socialtjänstlagen (SoL), Hälso-sjukvårdslagen (HSL), Pantientlagen, Lagen om stöd och service (LSS) to name a few. You can read more at Lagen and Riksdagen. Another thing is that generally unions are very strong too. That's also a reason for the working climate, it is in everyones interest and politicians are keen about it. Science and facts is the consensual base ground. For example, as you mentioned health maintaince varies depending on company and employer. But my employer, the Region which is a huge employer gives everyone 5000sek (gym membership, massage, sport activities etc) in health maintaince a year, plus 1500sek in health care covering fees like (chiropractor, hospital visits). To me it's outstanding, the opposite draws my mind to the US.

As far as I understood, you are from Germany and your husband is from the uk so I imagine you two have english as a common language. The kids will speak swedish and english then so will that be a problem for you all to comunicate english mainly and not swedish or is it going to be more swedish the spoken language at home? Thanks for your time and I hope to get an answer because I'm thinking of moving there and we're a mix couple too.

From 7th grade i suppose youre children can choose French, German, or Spanish as an choosable extra subject in school. Annyway the most schools have that. And it was like that for me. But i chosed agriculture instaed of an extra language besides Swedish and english. Something i deeply regret today tho i would have loved studyed Spanish. I went my 7-9th grade outside Örebro. And that was a long time ago. But I am sure kids can choose about the same stuff today. With some differences between different schools offcourse... We live in a wonderful country. How do Swedes accommodate children who are academically behind or have learning disabilities? My heritage is from Scandinavia and I am very interested in moving there with my family.
@LivingSwedish
@LivingSwedish Год назад
This might be quite general but here's what I found: In Sweden, children with academic difficulties or learning disabilities are accommodated through a variety of support services provided by the school system. These services may include special education teachers, individualized learning plans, and adapted teaching materials. Schools may also offer specialized support classes or programs to help students with learning difficulties improve their skills and catch up with their peers. Additionally, students with more significant learning disabilities may receive support from specialist health care providers such as psychologists or speech therapists. The goal is to ensure that all students have access to an education that is tailored to their needs and abilities.

I'm sorry to hear that you aren't close to your parents. A phenomenon that is all too common, I think. ~ In seventh grade we had to choose between German 🇩🇪 and French🇨🇵, and I chose the latter... :-( The generation before me read German as well as French. (In addition to Swedish🇸🇪 and English🇬🇧, of course.) 😉
