I think some people hear the memes about "goods can be created from thin air in Vic3", "Deficits only affect good price" and don't realize shortages actually exist in the game.

Building 50,000 power plants in Ontario as Britain or Canada, New York as the USA, or Dalmatia as Austria, are the most efficient way to generate electricity. The output modifier makes for extremely productive power plants that produce vast quantities of electricity, but in turn they also reduce the demand for Oil if you choose to run them as Oil Turbines because you won't need quite as many for the same output.

OPB, I was wondering if you could perhaps do a short guide or something on the Urban Centers. One time in particular, I was playing as Serbia, managed to get Bosnia, Southern Serbia, Albania and Skopia from the Ottomans, while thriving under the Austrian market. But alas, as my country became quite industrialized, so did the Trade Unions become powerful. My country went from absolute principality to the constitutional principality with very liberal laws. And then, communism happened. I tried to keep the communists out of the government, but I was too busy helping the Austrians fight a civil war that I didn't notice my Inteligentsia IG leader, who was in my government, dying and being replaced by an anarchist. I wasn't paying attention, so the journal entry for the path of socialism completed without me even being aware that it was ticking. I didn't want to reload an autosave, because a month in game at this stage of the game (almost 1900) was like a minute on max speed, and I've already been pausing to micro the economy to get that sweet, sweet line rising even more. Soon, most IG's turned either shade of the socialism, and they completely dominated the government. There was a strong movement to establish a council republic (almost 90%), and the radicals were piling up due to Austria kinda ruining the whole market with all the civil wars (they had 8 in total by the end of the game). By this point, I was like "Oh well", so I established the council republic and abolished the monarchy. The things seemed to go quite well. With the 8th and final civil war in Austria ongoing, I seized the opportunity to gain independence and create my own market. Things were going pretty well, the economy was till thriving. The only two sad things in all of this that the monarchy was abolished and my tricolor was replaced by some kind of abomination. And then, command economy happened. I've seen talk of people praising command economy, and around 1925 there was a strong movement for it. I had interventionism, which has served me very, very well. But I decided to roleplay, so I went with the movement and enacted command economy... and then everything started going downhill. So command economy automatically subsidizes everything, including the urban centers, which I purposefully never subsidized, because they all kept growing and growing, and were never profitable, no matter which production method I picked. But due to me not having other choice but to subsidize it, I took an immediate plummet in my profits, going into negative million out of nowhere. I went full communist, so I had max instututinos for a communist utopia. I tried scaling those instututions down, to get welfare as low as possible, and to reduce the minimum wages. But nothing was helping. I tanked government and military wages, I maxed the taxation, I was on a graduated taxation. But the urban centers kept getting employed, and I had to pay for the wages out of my pocket. It was a complete disaster. Thankfully, before my country imploded, 1936 rolled in, and it was game over (got several achievemnts out of it even: Serf's Up, Victorian Age, Poor Huddled Masses, Deeds, Not Words, Reading Campaign, Inventive). So I was hoping you, or someone else reading this, could help me with future possible playthroughs. The easiest answer would be "Don't do command economy", but that really shouldn't be the case, right? The main point shoul be: what to do with the urban centers? They are always barely able to hire above 20% before becoming unprofitable. Despite my standard of living being high, there is not enough demand for services. So am I doing something wrong? Or is this just one of the things which are fixed in mods and which might get adjusted in future updates?
@kernelscout3077
@kernelscout3077 Год назад
i just did a game as communist poland with command economy and also had an issue with huge overspending on urban center subsidies, and honestly the way i fixed it was rolling back production methods for it. overproducing so much services just kept draining it and it wasnt profitable. producing less meant it made waay more money and i didnt have to subsidize it as much.
@StivKobra
@StivKobra Год назад
@@kernelscout3077 Unfortunately though, I build indutries in every single state (I didn't have that many states to begin with), so every state had high levels of urban centers. I also put them on the most basic PM's, but the price was still somehow like 80% bellow average. I never ran into such problems while running some mods which add buildings that actually consume services (like Banks in the mod The Great Rework, which require paper and services), which actually balances all of this out and makes even urban centers finally profitable, making true communist runs extremely overpowered. The pops in vanilla are never enough to consume the services in mid to late game. Maybe vanilla adding some production methods to other buildings that consume services would be good, or like in The Great Rework mod to have buildings which require services as an input. That way at least there would be some merrit to even using higher PM's for urban centers.
@kernelscout3077
@kernelscout3077 Год назад
@@StivKobra definitely there should be more ways to spend services. And that sucks! I was able to bring the price of services to around -10% cost by rolling back methods so it was manageable for me

In my time with this game... the only disaster save I have made was with France. I don’t remember the exact details anymore. But it had to do with the combination of the Wlfare laws with the law of increased minimum wage. It absolutely destroyed my economy. Edit: It didn’t have anything to do with the market or market access itself btw. I just wasn’t prepared for such costs.

The economy is very complicated in this game but I never engage with it. Every playthrough I just build loads of factories even if they don't make money until I become a world power.

Personally I think the English culture should have a "political obsession" of Constitutional monarchy. And American should have a Republic obsession also the french should have a Revolution obsession. Also it feels very unlikely that at any point in victorian history would the monarchy be abolished peacefully, the military was just too loyal and would surely fight to maintain the monarchy. Just like how I think the Americans would rather die than bow to any other form of government. And whenever the french government fails the people riot. But of course if the situation is bad enough then people can ignore their obsession in order to gain a better life so it isn't game breaking.

AI GDP and prestige would be a good bit higher in 1881 if he used Anbeeld's AI mod. It makes the AI actually able to compete with the player. Improved Automation (better econ development) and Historical Population Growth & Resources (general realism) are also highly recommended. V3 is so poorly balanced atm that the above mods are practically must have, IMO.

This save has to be a meme right?
@DarvinostheGreat
@DarvinostheGreat Год назад
No, it's just how I play. I can describe which decisions I made and why. The state religion was the only really memey thing I think I did, and I did that because I thought a protestant Ireland would be funny, but I also did it because the majority of my population was protestant anyways and wanted the extra loyalists. Estonia I took essentially as an easy way to invade Russia if they decide to side against me in a play, same with Ukraine, but they ended up going back into the Russian market after leaving mine. I built a ton of electrical plants in Ontario because Ontario and New York have a bonus to electrical output so I built everything there. Ontario also had multiple mass migrations of Germans so I had a lot of unemployed pops there anyways. I stuck with Monarchy because of the extra authority but was planning to go Anarchist at some point for the achievement I was also only half paying attention to the game while in a discord call for most of it so made quite a few mistakes lol. I decided to send it in after I realized nobody was working in my factories and didn't know how to get them back in.
