Gone are the days when a band can get on stage a play live and sound good without special effects, the horns, guitar, bass, and drums all sound awesome, and then you have the vocals to top it all off....real talent is a relic
I FEEL LIKE TODAYS ARTIST ARE MORE THAN CAPABLE TO BE ABLE GO MAKE MUSIC FROM THE HEART LIE THIS BUT SADLY THAT AINT WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOUNGINS TODAY
Usually when a singer in a big band is holding a guitar, it's mixed way down. But listen to the crucial, funky lines George is laying down while he sings!
But check the lead guitar riff with George doing vocals at the same time. I never understood how it was possible to go in two directions like that--never mind the smiling and dancing!
Let me tell you something, to be a teenager living in Brooklyn in the 70's with this great music was some of the happiest times of my life!! The 70's and 80's gave such great music, the kids nowadays are listening to it as well.
Those were the days! Friday nights we would watch Midnight Special on NBC and afterwards turn to CBS and watch Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert! Live bands, real music, the 70’s were awesome!
Today's music can't hold a candle to music from back in the day and I wasn't even born when Brothers Johnson came on the scene, but I love their music.
Summer of 1976 i was 15 years young and man the music from funk to led Zepp , it was all so freaking cool . I still listen mostly to late 60s thru 80s sweet music to my ears :)
On this day in 1976 {April 25th} "I'll Be Good To You" by the Brothers Johnson entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #88; and on July 4th it peaked at #3 {for 3 weeks} and spent 17 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 7 of those 17 weeks it was on the Top 10} And on June 6th it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Between 1976 and 1981 they had only six records make the Top 100, but three of them reached the Top 10 {the other two were "Strawberry Letter 23" at #5 in 1977 and "Stomp!" at #7 in 1980}...
Anthony Man Cave - It is beyond beautiful! It is oh-so sexy on George, who was already too damn sexy then, but the fro made him even more sexy, if that was even possible. Listen to this beautiful man sing the first few words of this song - smoldering!
Indeed! I love that fros are back and that every other person on TV now is biracial. I was always ashamed of my ethnic frizz/curls, but now I let my freak flag fly, proudly! Hey, at 51 I'm finally feeling comfy as myself!
+T Elease Is that wrong a homeboy playing great music and a instrument ? fantastic sounds from what I think were talented musicians....loved it and miss it !

I couldn't agree with you more. Well said. I reminisce, and then shake my head, and wondered why music as whole has degenerated. What we are left with now are the good memories of that era of music and artistic greatness, which will never be duplicated.
Friday nights like 12(EST) 9th grade.Used to watch The Midnight Special NBC and Don Kirshners, Rock Concert ABC on Saturday nights back then.Real musicians and singers and it was live no lips-sync.We only had 3 channels but there was plenty of classic music on tv.Even Soul Train,Saturday afternoons, was live until they started lips-syncing like American Bandstand......yall just dont know
Right there with you! The music of the 70's was cornerstone of the soundtrack of my youth. I'm sure your comment resonates with many. Thanks for the post!
Yes, some of us know. What we didn't know is that these musicians were creating masterpieces. We just took it for granted because that was the music that was out in popular back then.
Love It, Love It, Love It!!! Thank you sooooooo much for posting this video! I fondly recall this song being played on the radio back in the mid-70's ALL the time, on the way to the pool, at the skating rink, everywhere... the incomparable, beautiful, melodic "R & B" hits of that era, my FAVORITE era, for black music: late 60's through mid to late '70's--- back when "brothers" used to play REAL instruments (guitars, HORNS, drums, keyboards...), heartfelt vocals... laying down a REAL sound!
passion4posh - Me too! I had a really bad crush on him too! His amazingly sexy voice, his gorgeous, studly face, and massive coolness/swag was too much for me! He was hotter than the blazing sun!
Palomares Jr. High school in Pomona California, friends and family, a Dodge Super Bee in my uncles driveway, McDonald's around the corner only 10 minutes walking distance and the Brothers Johnson! I was one of the happiest kids on the planet!
This particular song brings joy to me because it was release when I was a SR in HS... Brings back such positive memories... It so hard to comprehend Louis is gone but in a better place... When the calling comes it time to go and embrace the heavenly father... REST WELL IN HEAVEN, LOUIS JOHNSON... A FAN.
