Stockton is hard place to grow up but the same for conor in Crumlin Dublin its known as one of the worst parts of Ireland. He was relentlessly buried growing up its why he got into fighting. My ma now lives in another spot around the corner where a man a few months ago was shot 3 times while walking with his 4 month old son in a pram. I've seen some bad things and had some bad things done to me and my friends. Its inevitable that some nasty shit happens to you or someone close at some point I think. I say all that just to emphasize that Connor really had come from a fucking hard place, I actually train in the old gym by coincidence, I can only imagine back in the day, the desperation of wanting it and being one of the very few Irish people trying against all odds to get into the UFC and have an impact, almost nobody here would have been in his corner to support his dreams it wouldn't have even been on anybody's radar as a possibility, most would probably just laugh at him. Watching his rise trough the UFC was insane and I got on fairly early and it was a part of the reason I decided a few years ago to start training that instead of other sports. I love the Diaz brothers too and I can imagine the suffering they went through in Stockton must have been fucking treacherous. I hate this "Diaz brothers are stupid bleeders" or "mctapper is a bitch" shit. All 3 of them are animals who climbed to the top and ended up pitted against one another. Even if you dont like a fighter you should have respect for all people who will get in a cage against another human to try and break eachother apart. I feel with Nick. That sense of duty and responsibility he has for Nate is truly one of a kind especially when they’re in this line of work. Their mindset are complete polar opposite when it comes to fighting in the UFC & its so interesting that Nick still treats Nate like he’s still 12 years old in Highschool protecting him from all the bullies.

And I feel Nate is doing what he does to make sure in the end it’s all worth it for both of them .

Fr? I'm close too. Before we moved to Fresno we used to live in Sacramento. I was born in San Diego like my brothers though. So even though we didn't live in Stockton it was always just a 1-3 hour drive away depending on where we lived. Plus, there is a fair amount of Hmong people in Stockton too I think so it's even cooler Nick and nate diaz are from Stockton! They are so cool

I couldn't agree with you more about Nate and Nick and the media's portrayals. I've met them over a dozen times running into them when I lived in Tracy/Modesto area. My favorite instance when I ran into Nate at BJ's in Stockton. My Aunt and I were there eating dinner right after a Stockton thunder game. I saw Nate with a bunch of people eating I waited for him to finish before I walked over and asked him if we could take a picture with him. He asked me where we were sitting I showed him he walked right over and sat down with us and took the picture and after that he spent about 10 minutes with us talking about random stuff but his engagement the whole time was so cool.

I have always, always loved them both... long before Nate/Conor 1. People used to talk so much sh!t and it used to drive me fkn nuts. I’m so glad they now get the love and respect they have always deserved

The UFC was getting popular and wanted Nick to the be the face of it. Nick was his worse enemy. If you font fall for the poor me story form Nick and look at everything you'll see this. Fighters today tell the truth about the UFC. Its never ending about Pay and contracts. Nate or Nick isn't saying anything new. Nick got a title shot against GSP after losing a fight. Nate got a title shot against Henderson got beaten. He then had a fight with RDA the winner of that match would have gotten a title shot. Nate missed weight badly. The Diaz brothers play the victim card and go against the UFC. A promotion that made them who they are. Nick once said that the UFC is the elite promotion. This was when he was a strike force champion. The Diaz brothers messed themselves up as there Ego got beyond them. Nick before he fought Robbie said he would beat Usman. When he lost to Robbie he said he would come back and fight Usman and win. Both brothers are delusional

@@orinorio1 I think you're going a bit far man. I'm not saying they're innocent or anything like that but they were screwed on several occasions in a couple different ways. If you don't see that then you're not looking at everything. Yes they made mistakes which caused some of the issues, but they were also taken advantage of with certain promotions of fights and weren't given certain opportunities that they probably deserved etc. So innocent, no. And I certainly don't think, "oh poor Diaz brothers." However they both got a raw deal at certain points

Of course they've had their shortcomings when they had a chance at gold but that doesn't make what they were saying about the UFC any less true. Dana trying to spin a false narrative for their actions when behind the scenes it's something completely different, they might not be very articulate with how they respond but they're definitely not dumb and can see right through the BS.

If the UFC did them so badly and unfairly then why did Nate just make it clear that he had no problem coming back? They just both wanted things they felt they earned but really hadnt. Nate saying “I’m helping all these guys get title shots and not getting anything”….well then he should’ve won. If you’re constantly fighting top contenders then you’re constantly getting an opportunity to BE a top contender and get a title fight, you just have to win. Nate didn’t. That’s on him. He made himself a stepping stone, the ufc didn’t do that.

Just goes to show you how heartbreaking this whole thing is. It’s not all glamorous as it’s presented to be. These guys are putting their life on the line for our entertainment and aren’t getting fairly compensated for it. you need someone smart around to help set up your retirement.
