A look at the Compaq Presario model 5356 desktop from 1999. Does it still work over 20 years later? Does it have any skill in playing 3D games?
I picked up 2 retro Compaq's recently and took some time getting this one up and running. Thought I'd make a little video on it as a break from my Rise and Fall historical type videos that I've been working on lately :) Always fun to spend time getting an old machine working!
Although it has the distinctive styling of the case and this pre dates their buy out by HP, I will probably put this one up for sale.
Quake was running at 640 x 480, going up to 800 x 600 resulted in sluggish performance. The integrated graphics is not meant for gaming!
Software that I used to get it running:
- 7 zip and USB drivers from here: dk.toastednet.org/vogons/win98/
- SIS 620 chipset for integrated graphics from the SIS website w3.sis.com/download/
- ESS 1938 drivers from vogons: vogonsdrivers.com/index.php?ca...
