Is it possible to enable the 2nd texture unit of the chip by a registry hack? I found a video where the precursor card of the voodoo 3 (forget the name) has the possibility to enable the 2nd tex unit. There was a debate if that card is a unofficial banshee.

1.2 mb were double sided HIGH density 360k drives were double sided single density And you totally skipped the 720/800k double sided 3.5" floppies

Correct yes - this video definitely could do with a refresh with some of those errors that slipped through. Thanks for taking the time to comment (and watch)! Can you believe that some of these disks are 30 - 40 years old at this point? Even more astounding is that you can get SD cards up to a Terra-byte in size :)

Why is my wheel going up and down on calibration for pedals? Like I’ll have my foot on 100% on the pedal and it’ll go between two different spots

NVidia demolished the competitors by choosing the right strategy of being a mere chip maker. Their rivals, Matrox and ATi had been making cards by their own, 3dfx and S3 bought STB and Diamond respectively.

I just got one for the princely sum of 3€ (plus 5€ shipping, but still) and it's perfect for old games that work with DirectInput and don't require analog sticks. The buttons feel great and it was immediately recognized in Windows 10, which I wasn't expecting. It's my go to for games released in the late 90's and very early 2000's.

Is there a usb version of this gun?
@ByteSizeThoughts
@ByteSizeThoughts 2 месяца назад
Not that I know of specifically for American laser games. I think these MSDos games pre-date USB by a couple of years at least. It would be cool if the Sinden light gun (which is USB) could have an old justifier design like this but I reckon they dont want to create something that looks too similar to a real gun these days.

My first proper pc that i bought(not counting the 486 that was returned after a few weeks!) was the Pentium3 500, with Savage 4 3d 32meg gfx card, which then was upgraded to 700mhz, and finally to 933/133 with a slocket converter. Ram was doubled to 256meg, and gfx card upgraded to Geforce 2 Titanium. I sidestepped to the AMD AthlonXP, then back to Intel with the Pentium4 3.2, then Core2quad 2.4, and finally to Core i7-950 3.06ghz(which was then now upgraded to Xeon 6-core 3.33ghz)
@ByteSizeThoughts
@ByteSizeThoughts 2 месяца назад
Wow, you definitely got some mileage out of that first PC going from 500 to 933 and up to a Geforce 2 TI! The speed of change back then was mindblowing! Thanks for sharing.
@mbwoods2001
@mbwoods2001 2 месяца назад
@ByteSizeThoughts yeah, the pc had selectable speed and multiplier via jumpers, so worked out what was the fastest cpu the mobo could take, and with 7.5x multiplier and 66/100/133 bus speed in which i plumped for 933mhz coppermine socket 370 cpu that i got for reasonable price, plus a slocket converter. Also, when i went to buy it, initially had a 16meg TNT graphics, then on the day of purchase said it had a 32meg graphics which I thought was a TNT or TNT2 card, but was slightly disappointed that it wasnt an nvidia card but a Savage 4 3d card. I skipped a generation and went with the geforce 2 titanium when the geforce 3's arrived. At least i could play the latest games without having to break the bank!

By far the best d-pad I've ever used for fighting games. Shame my 15-pin one stopped working after less than 2 years and the USB one I got as a warranty replacement from Microsoft also died in around 2 years. Great controller, but after a quality control disaster like that I never bothered seeking out another one.

I bought the Monster 3D card back in 1997, and I was hooked on 3D gaming after that. In 2023 I decided to get another Voodoo1, and I bought an older HP computer to run it in. I have 42 games for that computer now with a Geforce 2 MX400 paried with the Voodoo 1, and a SB Audigy sound card running on a 24" wide gaming monitor. NFS2se looks fantastic, so does POD. :)

Nice - nostalgia is a drug! I have been able to buy quite a few of the old games in their original big box packaging. However the prices have gone through the roof, back in 2018 or so games were going for $20 for a bundle, now they are minimum $50 a piece :D

I got this to work on Macbook too!! I needed the controller companion app (yeah it’s paid I know) and it recognized it and connected immediately. Confirmed working on American truck simulator on 7/5/24 on the M2 chip (edit: can’t confirm if it works or not through parallels with the ARM processor but it does work on base MacOS with the installation of that driver.)

I was a huge gamer in 2001 and had all the sidewinder series, my nephews laughed when I show them but man mech warrior, disable, unreal tournament was awesome with his plus the sidewinder joystick for flying was awesome to. They have all gone missing for my collection so someone like them and helped themselves to them. But man the memories. I was a military fireman and we were all computer gamers we'd have lan lines running all around the firehouse and it was crazy a lot of the guys started using PlayStation 2 when that came out but I stuck with my computer. I was just reaching my son who loves computers how to use the keyboard and was telling him about this gem he said I need that can't believe sidewinder was dis in 2003 man I'm old 50 years old and my sons 4, long live SIDEWINDER!! Among the many names that were influential in the 90s, few were more so than the venerable purveyor of what came to be known as 'frankenparts,' Packard Bell (or 'Packard Smell' as they were known by those in the business). Show me a person whose early passion for computing was crushed like an egg, and I'll show you a Packard Bell owner. Few computer manufacturers could more effectively avoid direct price comparisons. By slightly altering the model number and configurations of every computer based only upon the retailer who actually sold it, you could not hope to comparison shop (let alone get a retailer to price match the competition). So effective was this scheme that Packard Bell computers held some of the thickest margins in the PC industry. They were also among the first to leverage the marketing of pre-installed software, generating huge profits from companies like Prodigy (remember them?) and Quicken.

Back when you started your PC, went to the kitchen, made your lunch, went back to your PC, started Windows, went back to the kitchen, ate your lunch, and back again to your PC waiting for windows to start while listening to the analog hard drive having pretensions of being a mini TeleType machine. My family's 2nd computer was a packard bell 486 with windows for workgroups 3.11. I don't remember the rest of the specs. I think it had ms-dos 6.xx, possibly 6.22. It came with pb navigator, chessmaster 3000, mavis beacon teaches typing, san diego zoo, and windows entertainment pack for packard bell. It had a canon bj-200e printer. My dad bought it at walmart. I also played math-ace and dinosaur safari, but those might have been acquired separately.

Operating systems still detect PCI Express as PCI device, because PCI Express is implemented in such a way that it will identify it self as PCI device, so it will be backwards compatible with older OS, even Windows 98. Some of the early native PCI Express graphics cards (GeForce 6 series and Radeon X300/500/800/1000 series) have Windows 98 drivers.

"Quake could just about be run on a 486DX4/100". Such high requirements! It'll run on a 486DX/33. It's a slideshow with sound breaking up, but it runs. It will not, however, run on a 486SX at all. If you try, it'll dump you back to DOS complaining it can't find the FPU.

Ah good memories of my childhood in primary school during the early 2000s. We had a bunch of Optima P166 and P200 machines with Win 95/98 and loaded with old games. We had displays made by Optima (or Samsung) too. Then in 2011 my local organisAtion were given all the redundant computers from a local high school... We had Optima laptops too, which my primary school had, and in 2008 my primary school gave me an Optima laptop. A silver Centoris series laptop.
