Well it's a tree yes. But you can't just go and assume, that planting a new tree is going to help anyone. Teldrassil wasn't just a mere tree, just as Nordrassil that was destroyed during the war of mount hyal (at least I think so) Teldrassil was not only the homeland of the Night Elves, but also a symbol of life, hope and future as well as a symbol of longevity and wisdom. By burning it Sylvannas didn't just try to kill all Night Elves. I guess she of course knew that rationally they could just plant another. But burning the tree didn't only kill innocent people, but it also severed the beliefs of those people. You could compare it to Sargeras driving his sword into Azeroth in his last attempt of vengeance before he was sealed away. It didn't kill Azeroth, but it severed her fate deeply and potentially uncureable...well if it wasn't for the azerite events of BFA that would follow. So YES, the elves could just plant another tree and wait a few thousand years to grow to such a size again....but that tree won't ever be able to fill the gap the Burining Of Teldrassil left in the hearts of those who survived. Teldrassil was far more than "Just a tree" emotionally. But yeah...rationally it was just wood and leaves and some flesh and blood inside ;-)
....but they still have the original tree, Nordrassil,.. and Teldrassil was made in hopes to grow a new world tree and restore their immortality, and it was also vulnerable to corruption, and honestly the worst of it was, it basically bound the night elves to it, and kept them from the outside world, and protecting Teldrassil and keeping it healthy and corruption free must have took so much attention away from the rest of kalimdor. Aaaand not saying that nobody died, but Teldrassil is huge, and it would have taken time for the fires to reach into the tree itself, so it gave plenty of time to evacuate via portal away, and even then you can't say that they would have been blind to the fires, because Darnassus knew that the Horde was really active, and moving troops and the such, so evacuation of civilians would have been underway even before the burning, because while nobody would have guessed that Teldrassil would burn, they knew of a possibility of the Horde taking over it, which would still lead to deaths and chaos. What the Nightelfs saw in Teldrassil was taken away, that is true, but not lost, and all eyes will return to Nordrassil, and Mount Hyjal as a whole, no longer are the majority of the Nightelfs bound to a false world tree, grown only through selfish reasons away from the land that they once called home, and instead be united under Nordrassil, watching the land from the top of Mount Hyjal, with a more respected view on the land and life, and honestly say what you will about Sylvanas and 'oh no, Teldrassil was burned down' but it is nothing like the mana bombing of two towns during Garrosh's reign, Dalaran's original destruction by the hands 'literally' of Archimonde, or the entirety of what the Scourge has done,.. Atleast Teldrassil, and Darnassus itself knew that the Horde was actively moving to it, and had plenty of time to portal away citizens.
I'm not actually very knowledgeable concerning a lot of Warcraft lore, but from what I know Nordrassil was lost during the time the planting of Teldrassil took place. An Wehn Nordrassil was regrown Teldrassil had, corruption or not, already become the new home of genrations of Night Elves. Sure, now that Teldrassil is gone they can just move back to Hyjal, but in the End...even if not many civillians actually burned, it was still a horrible fate an a sever wound - emotionally. BECAUSE they previously lost Nordrassil und their ancestral homeland. I don't find it strange that they then focused on how the remaining corruption of Teldrassil could be purged instead of rushing back to Hyal as soon as the Cataclysm was "over". Sure they certainly knew what was coming, but they got to know it pretty late, as Malfurion and the most Troops were lured into Ashenvale und Parts of Darkshore so they wouldn't be able to make it when the second Horde army arrived at Ruth'eran. At least that is what I understood what has happened even though I started playing AFTER that prepatch event took place. I'm actually personally giving a crap about that faction war even though it's the oldest feude und content of the game...but I'd prefer if a truly neutral kind of playable Race was introduced, since Members of the Horde as well as Alliance have previously demonstrated, that they can work in goof harmony for the same Cause...for example Nersingwary Expedition consisting of not only dwarves and gnomes, but also sometimes of Trolls, Orcs or Goblins. Same goes for groups like Emerald Circle, Cenarion Circle/Cenarion Expedition or other such groups because in the end you have races in each faction that are following the same base philosophy, that they agree upon. But yeah...in the End Azeroth is just a fantasy themed reflection of our own earth where people love to kill each other or cast war upon some country for their own selfish reason regardless of civillians involved whose soleil intrest it was to be allowed to live on this world peacefully...
I really wish that this wasn't the prepatch or that there was some way to play it after the prepatch coz I came back to BfA halfway through the expansion and I had zero context for why the war started. My druid had been left in Darnassus and it was a massive shock when I was suddenly dropped onto Darkshore as soon as I logged in. As far as I had known at that stage the Horde and Alliance were fighting over Azerite and it was a massive jump to go from skirmishes in Silithus over this new mineral to *bam!* we're invading Undercity!!
If I found the way it was told only more engaging... The voices, the lines spoken, the "cinematics"... I fast forwarded in hopes that I would see a grand finale, I only got more confusing lines of dialogue. 13 years ago, this seemed so huge and interesting to me, right now I'm just waiting for another Warcraft title. No matter the type of gameplay.
Sylvanas was like down to 5% by Malfurion.. who was down to 33%. Yet, Sourfang kicks Malfurion's 33% to 1% with a single throw!! by the way... that "Begone! witch!" sounds so much like "Begone THOT!"
Honestly... Sylvanas has fallen to low, she did the same thing that the Lich King did and I really hope she will have the most horrible end possible... Sorry, but to be honest she is the worst of worst since the beginning... I admit this gives her a lot of character development and I admit I love what they have done with her as a character... but I really hope her end will be epic karma!!!
When did all this happen? I just got BFA and introduced with the seige of Lordaeron but Anduin was already talking about this happening. I have not had a single quest/cutscene/etc IN GAME that actually has any of this Teldrassil stuff in it?
I used to play horde, and I used to like the lore around it. Since Legion Blizzard started to make a point of the Horde being just a plot device for Alliance lore, and a form of keeping players that otherwise would not play the game for its lore. Then thinking in retrospect, since Cataclysm that Blizzard have increasingly made a distinction between right and wrong about Alliance and Horde, and increasingly only adding depth to the Horde for moving Alliance "reason" along. Horde lore has since then lost its morally grey aspect, to be just a form of showing "what is not alliance". The player in Alliance is always doing things according to its nature, according to its narratives. The horde player is always doing something out of character for its faction, out of touch to its alignment and undermining the horde. You have no choice but agree that "alliance is doing what is right", and at the end of the day, you just put there to advance that proposition. Until Legion it was somehow better disguised this efforts, but from the end of Legion, it is getting increasingly obvious there is one narrative for this conflict. That is why I rerolled Alliance and gave in to the inevitable choice of someone who cannot stand to be instrument of bad storytelling. For those who disagree, look back from Cataclysm, and the "Thrall Thrown Bone" to the horde, and what has actually been done for that.
The problem with that statement is that BFA is pretty much just an in-depth story about the Horde facing an identity crisis that would lead to the release of an Old God at it's fullest strength, all the while the Alliance gets a shitty story about Jaina's family issues and an even shittier story about a damn fun-sized robot who also has family issues. Oh, and what is the big pay off with the our side quest that is the fourth war, you ask? We get to set back and watch while the Horde figures it's own shit out.

Thinh Vo People should really stop asking for Malfurion's death. If we believe that if he dies the writers will change and the story will magically get better we are naive...

Thinh Vo Cause if we don't go by plot armor Malfurion whould have killed Sylvanas in all three occasions he had her in his mercy through the War of Thorns.
@@messler5636 I don't think he meant physically weak. By all means Malfurion alone could body half if not most of the horde by himself, but what he meant was their indecisiveness, poor planning, etc. The alliance (at this point) has more heavy hitters on their side but they (and the writers) have no idea wtf to do with themselves most of the time.
