Avery Shreiber was a great comedian and character actor. He was fantastic on "my mother the car" as Captain Manzini, his Doritos commercials were memorable and entertaining and his appearances on "Chico and the Man" always made me smile. Very funny man and he seems like he was a kind man in real life.
If you're reading this..Mr. Josh Schreiber? I loved your dad's work..either with Mr.Burns..or? On his own..especially..when he appeared on the tv version of"Story Theater" ,"The Harlem Globetrotter's Popcorn Machine" and.."My Mother The Car"..I'm sorry that I never got the chance to meet him and tell him..how much I love his work as a comic/character actor and dialectician.
I had an old 70s album by them that was hilarious, all diff routines, and no taxi driver...they did so much more......I remember Burns talking about a new handgrenade that could blow out a 100 ft radius hole, the only prob was the average soldier could only throw it 5o ft....stuff like that.....just classic....
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid. I was too young to remember names and for years afterwards thought James Cromwell played the " Eh, eh, eh." guy. This would have gone forgotten were it not for the talent of Burns and Schreiber. Thank you for the renewed memory of your father. Gone too soon.
* Best one was when Jack Burns was the passenger telling Avery Schreiber about the babes at places he'd been followed by "They were all over me" when discussing California beach bunnies, Vegas show-girls, etc. Then he was discussing he-shes (drag queens) in Greenwich Village and again babbled "They were all over me!" ☺
I think my favorite bit was when Schreiber played a computer, complete with his eyes as blinking lights. He also played the bad guy on "My Mother The Car", my favorite TV show when I was about six!
The character played by Jack Burns reminds me of some of Eric Idle's Monty Python characters (see the facial expressions at 3:24), you know what I mean? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink...
I remember one of Avery's routine. He did this magician sketch where he had a "DaDa" box. The rest is too hard to explain. I think he did this on Flip Wilson.
Pretty sure Jay Leno mimics Jack's voice when he wants to exude authority. When he reads police blotters on Headlines. Or when he quotes his late father.
I remember when these guys were Prime time love them when i was ten years old but that yay huh yay Stuff isn't funny it gets on my nerves As an adult sad they broke up Burns got on one day at a time as The janitor Schneider and Avery Schreiber did Doritos Tortilla chip Commercial one good crunch Leads to another they both faded Into obscurity after the 1970s
