This video is almost six years old, and I've only just watched it now. It was amazing! Great job back then Luke. This is one of my favourite videos of yours. Really liked the shelter building, just hanging around the fire at night, and also some talk time inside the shelter. Would really like to see you do another one in this style this winter. Thanks again Luke!!

This has gotten me so excited to hone in on my skills and practice on things I need to improve. My kiddos are still pretty little, but I can't wait to show them on trips like this. Thanks so much for these vids, I know what I'll be watching for the next week. "White man make big fire, stand way back...Indian build little fire sit up close."

good video. fun shelter. at the end you talk about cancer. my dad is dying of cancer. he only has a few days to live. it is in all his organs too. he is 84 years old. i live in the mt hood national forest. i make survival shelters and do this stuff in my videos. great videos but when you mentioned the cancer and prayers. i just could relate cause i am about to lose my dad any day now. they say less than a week now. he is in the hospital now. i have been using the hatchet he gave me to make my shelter in my newest video. i have been shooting some of his guns he gave me in other new videos. hello from me hood. thanks for giving me a hour to enjoy this video and not think about my dad dying. peace.

+Joe Proctor thanks man. yep it is a cool shelter and very special to me now. i did alot of videos in that spot before i made the shelter but i knew i wanted to make on. i have another one 3 miles away by a river. but i just went out there with my gear and didnt know if i would even make a video. a shelter. or shoot guns. just sat and stared then i picked up the hatchet and started making it. and just worked hard for 5 hours on it. then did a few things here and there to it over the next few weeks. basically make thatching better etc. but thanks for the words. im doing alright. definately the hardest thing i ever went through.

+Joe Proctor yep. i went to work the day after i found out my dad passed. as we were so busy this summer. record setting every month etc. so i had to suck it up. work hard and get a plane ticket home fast and deal with the funeral. he lived 84 good years. but i have a few videos of that shelter unless my viewers see the rip video. they wont have any idea why that shelter is so important to me. peace.

This is my favorite video yet, and I like them all. Have you tried using mineral oil instead of WD-40? You can just keep an oil soaked cloth in a container for wiping blades and saws. Always great work, and especially on this one. :)

GREAT VID ! Nice upbeat delivery ! Interesting use of WD40 which does come in mini-cans and could also be used to accelerate fire lighting in the wet. Common item in many folks truck tool bag anyway. It's clear its a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have" not necessarily in the top 10 but something a little different.- Greetings and best wishes for your MIL's comfort in her closing days. One thing you may want to try next time for your fire is the Scandinavian style all night fire that you can make with just two logs. it would be perfect for the shelter you had. I've built them three times now in overnight situations and it kept me perfectly warm all night long with out having to tend to the fire.

That was a great video! You built that shelter almost exactly as I would have. Only dif is I would have gone thicker on leaves and sided out with leaves too. To be extra sure of a good deal but with the super shelter it evened out. Great stories. I'm impressed with the sleeping bag. I love my Eberlestock destroyer. Miss my Kajka though, I think I'm going to replace it and get the slightly smaller green 75l. Can't say how much I enjoy your overnighters Luke. Truly a pleasure to watch you. You're such a good guy. Man, you are so awesome. I love going camping even though I am only 13 and I just love watching your videos. :) This shelter helped me last time I went with my friend. We went to kinda try to survive. We brought food because we are too young to hunt, but nothing else. Only a saw, a knife and some cord. It was warm and awesome thanks to your amazing shelter. Hey Luke - I am a new sub, and I really have become a fan of your vids! I am an avid outdoorsman but, at least for the foreseeable future, I am stuck at home writing and don't have the time to get out and enjoy nature. You are providing a service, I think, because others can live vicariously through your experiences. You have definitely found your niche, and after viewing many of the other channels, it seems that your positive presentation style is miles ahead of many others in the genre of camping/bush-crafting. I have never seen so many positive comments on a channel - obviously you are doing something right. Good luck my man, keep up the great work, and thanks for helping feed my passion for the outdoors! Bro, you are a good person. First off, your vids are awesome and you get your viewers attention and keep it by including them in your taped adventure. But the story of that drunk guy in the front of your property, taking a midnight swim in the middle of winter, that is crazy. Pretty good night out. That camp would be good for a few nights out in the woods. A couple of notes: at first I thought you should add a bunch of leaves, etc. under your tyvek to create a bedding layer but then I was thinking how much moisture those leaves were holding so it was unlikely to be that insulative. 2ndly, your fire was a bit close to the live tree and it appears to have been scorched a bit. With everything else, it looks like you have your skills down pat and are pretty knowledgeable about your area. Lastly, my mom passed away from cancer several years ago and I know what you are going through caring for the in-laws. Best wishes.

Another awesome video Luke. Hear what you're saying about heading out in the rain as that's all I'm getting at the moment but things will no doubt improve. A good cold blast and some snow would be appreciated. Take Care

Doooooood, that snowstorm you mentioned at 39:52 is know as snowmagedden here in GA. It 100% shut down Atlanta for 3 days, and the rest of NW GA. I had a nightmare getting home from school in my dad's 2 (rear) wheel drive pickup truck on the frozen roads full of traffic. We ended up ditching the truck bc there was no chance we could make it through the mountains near my house and hitchhiking/ walking 2 miles.

Very nice video, buddy. You make me want to go outside just right now. That shelter was awesome, very easy and simple to do, but sturdy. By the way, you speak so clear that i can understand you without so much trouble (Im not english native). Greetings from Chile. Keep going that way, you have a new follower. Felipe.

Great Job Luke on that shelter, thats a lot of time and calories spent. I'm glad you did eventually comment in the number of hours it took. That doesn't really come across on the video, until viewers can see the sunlight dimming. My prayers and warm thoughts go out to you and your family in regards to your mother in law. Thats a tough time for any husband/father/family. My mother in law passed 4 years ago and it was hardest on my wife and kids. Its just another one of lifes "Manhood tests" that get thrown our way as loving/supportive fathers and husbands.

Thank you MuvoTx for your kind words. I am sorry to hear about the passing of your mother and you're absolutely right, it's one of those 'Manhood tests.' Well said. Take care of yourself my friend, be well.

Another great video! Your vids have inspired me to change the direction of my channel a bit. Now that we've seen your bushcraft skills..maybe another interesting theme for an overnighter would be using all high-tech gear. By the way, you got me TWICE with the yawning in this one! All the best.

Hey Luke, have you ever considered making a bushcraft video series where you build a long term part-natural shelter on lone wolf mountain? Maybe have your kids help you out even.

Great video! Awesome shelter, and might I say your video editing skills are coming along as well! Your Mother-in-law is still in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope she is able to be as comfortable as possible and enjoy her family and friends before she moves onto a better place. Looking forward to the "after the camp" video.

Just surfing the Tube, and found this video again, yeah, I have a couple of Bokor's, and their good, but lately I've been taking some of my Swamp Rat's through their paces, the Ratmandu, for that size knife really shines, the Rodent 6, with it's top gaurd removed, looks like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods, great 6"'er, my best 6" knife, but the Rodent 7, is a super great camp knife, similar to your Bokor Plus Armor Knife, actually, it would be nice for a face off between the two, their similar in size too, and it seem's like it's doing real good for you in the video, and me knowing how good my Rodent 7 is, I think it would be a great review, Thanx, I enjoyed this video again.
