The "Butterfly" Shooting Style

I speak English reasonably well, and I also speak a bit of French. German of course. I can read and understand Dutch as it is close to the German dialect my grandparents spoke. And that is pretty much it. A pity, when I was in school I could have learned several additional languages, but I was interested in other things at that time.

So THATS how you are twice as wide in the shoulders. And chest. And pecs. And biceps. Good workout for sure.

I always test my slingshots in the vise. Bands snap, but they always show signs (tears) pretty early, just inspect them every now and then. Plus, always wear safety goggles. A lash in the face is painful but harmless. A lash in the eye means blood, pain and hospital.

That slingshot looks very robust, practical and reliable -- all trademarks of a german orientated way of thought in terms of craftsmanship. It was also dramatically satisfying in how you introduced the 'butterfly' technique.

Probably the manliest man to do something related to butterflies!

@fartx211 The idea is to max out both on draw weight and draw length. Then you have the most powerful slingshot that works for you.

I do not use it in this video, but flat bands break earlier than tubes. It is faster, though. A good slingshot will give you several hundred shots with one set of bands, more if you draw out less far.

i noticed this seems to be your preferred style in other videos. i really want slingshot now...

Joerg, when you do the butterfly stance you look indeed very much like a butterfly. Only thing missing are the antennae ;)

Depends on the thickness and length of the Thera Gold. You can make very weak bands from the stuff, but also hellishly strong ones.

Can do it with both slingshots, but the bands have to be cut a little longer. Should be about 25 cm from pouch to fork.

ive been shooting like this for awhile but with the sling shot sideways. and to help instinctual aim which i have developed i start with holding the projectile and pouch near my shoulder then pull the sling shot out to stretch the rubber.

Years ago when I shot slingshots I used the butterfly stance not knowing what this was called. It came about because of the Wrist rocket with surgical rubber was the new product. The bands would not give enough power without this stance. I was also afraid of eye injury if the band came off.

Perfect shot. Yes you have to do lota chin ups to master this shot. But, its perfect shot for long range shooting.

Nein, im Gegenteil, die Kugel fleigt dann "höher" über die Gabel.

i shoot with either method, shorter like 2/3 butterfly for aiming and i can also pull full butterfly on my current bands. normal draw length extends band life because im not maxing them out, full butterfly maxes the bands out and is fun for when i need a little destructive potential at my fingertips.

@bigdongzachjones I legally own a Glock 17. It's easy enough to buy a gun. But you can't shoot it in the garden. And you can certainly not make it at home. I prefer my slingshots really.

what advantage does this have compared to just using a stiffer rubber band?

Actually your technique looks something like what I saw from the Japanese bow (kyudo). If you look at you tube - kyudo Japanese Bow you may agree with me. For them breathing & concentration plays a big part in their art. Is it the same for you & sling shots?

Ich denke mal er hat es nicht sio gemeint :) Ich bin deutsch-amerikaner und meine Freundin z.B. traut sich nur wenig mit meinen Freunden zu sprechen da sie auch einen sehr starken akzent hat, ich sage ihr dann immer "Dein englisch ist besser als ihr deutsch und niemand wuerde dich jemals auslachen nur weil du mit akzent sprichst". Ich meine keiner lacht Amis aus wenn sie deutsch sprechen, sowohl sie als auch wir Deutschen finden das im positiven sinne lustig UND man respektiert den Versuch :)

if your shooting a normal slingshot with flatbands do you have to shoot in the flip style

JoergSprave First time I've seen someone making longbow style shooting with a slingshot. Is it any more accurate to use this technique? Does it work for moving targets as well as it might for static? As for the workout, I used the wrong straps and got a face full of rubber tube for a few of the efforts. Do you recommend a particular type of cord yourself Joerg?

OMG ich schoss mir mal mir Thera Blau Bänder in diesem Stil auf den Daumenknochen... Das dauerte Monate voller Schmerz bis zur Heilung!

Bei 1:08 zeigst du wie man die Schleuder zum zielen um 90° neigen kann, aber dabei scheinen die Bänder sehr verdreht. Hat das keinen negativen Effekt?

This is the only way I shoot anymore and I'd like to add that if you flip the slingshot forward on the release it won't slap you. Also if you shoot gangster I think thumb on bottom is the way to go.

about the butter fly stance, i would like to try it but I'm worried about the bands snapping and hitting me, is there any way to tell if the bands can handle it with out actually doing it and causing pain to my self and breaking my bands?

Can tube bands do this? And what kind would you need if you can use them?
