During the early hours Thursday, 1st January 1896 - the body of a man was discovered lying brutally mutilated on the East Lancashire Railway line not too far from Cams Mill (also known as CAMMS Mill) , Haslingden.
His name was William Taylor (also known as William Bridge).
This is the first of several short stories coming to our channel in the coming months. We have scoured local newspapers covering well over one a hundred years and found many, many stories that may not have had the exposure they should have had. These are the stories of real people effected by unforeseen events and who have been lost to the past.
You can purchase the book - 1860 : The Helmshore Rail Tragedy from - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B1Q73N22

I always appreciate your videos. Nothing wrong with a 5min video or a 2 hour one, all depends on the case, detail etc. But you are giving a voice to those that have gone, and they won't be forgotten. It's strange to think when we stroll along all these beautiful walkways, what might have happened in the past. Another tragic story. Keep the videos coming mate!

Cheers pal. Loads more coming. I keep saying on the videos "this is a short one" but they still seem to end up 10 or 15 mins long 😂👍

These videos are very interesting and the victims are not forgotten about. I love local history, having studied Social and Economic History in the past and a keen genealogist. It brings events to life. Keep up the good work.

Hi Janette, thanks very much for watching and the kind comments. We have loads more stories to retell, quite a few locally but with some from further regions.

Many thanks Stephen. We get that perhaps not all the stories will be for everyone as a few are locally based so people may not have that same interest as us, but we just want to share the lives of people who came before us in our neck of the woods. We are going to be travelling more this coming year, so hopefully we can share the stories of other people from other counties which may be of interest to people.

I don't mind the length. I personally feel these poor people need their stories told. They need to be remembered!

I’m on my gfs account but in those feilds down the road my uncle lee who is sadly no longer with us had an allotment, I always felt something watching me down there, the bridge with no fences down there used to really make me feel uneasy

There are a couple more stories of the same which we are yet to cover over there. I have to say, walking around the old site where Cams Mill used to be, and walking over that bridge, I'm okay with that. I would t say I feel anything bad there but that one bridge does feel a little sketchy if you look over into the brook. 👀

Many thanks Louise 😀 Another pair of eyes looking into stories is always welcome. Are you local to Haslingden/Helmshore? Obviously, please don't give exact details away on here, but we are always looking to find new material where we live.
