I had a 1984 Cape Dory 28. I miss that boat. It was so easy to sail.

Why would you get rid of your house? 🤔

I wish you luck towards your (intermediate) goal of 10K subs. I'm sure you'll do it soon. I am a long-time transplanted New Englander (CT) living in CA for many years and I've enjoyed your content for a few months now. I think your No. 1 asset is your enthusiasm, it shines through on every episode!

My cape dory 30c is a 1980 also. I'm modifying mine for extra storage and simplicity. Everyone should have a sculling oar.

Ha! True. Never know when you’ll need a sculling oar! Where is the extra storage going? Curious to know about your modifications. And thanks for watching!

I'm going to replace the toe rails with bulwarks. I removed the diesel engine so I can use that space for water tanks and have storage under the bunks. I'm thinking of putting a pilot berth in on the port side that would slide out into a double. The open locker space on each side I want to put a shelf and close it off with doors.

I like my '80 CD27. It's a solid, safe, dry, and economical ride/house.

Nice. I have had a CD30 and CD10 and currently sail the CD36 that I have had for 19 years. I guess I am addicted also. Cheers.

Just bought an ‘84 on Lake Champlain. Have yet to sail her, but she just grabbed me when I saw her. I totally get it!

I have my finger tickling the trigger and it would be my first boat. I am just so scared of the expense. It just seems like in never ends. Im in NJ and figure I'm looking at $7k just to keep it in a slip and for the winter. I always am compelled to make things perfect, so I know I'll do the same with a boat. I feel like it could be the best thing that ever happened to me, or the worst. It doesn't help that I feel more broke every month. Fully expect to see eggs at $1 each some time soon. Im talking about a well kept 36 that seems special because it's totally unmolested and has every receipt.

It's tough. Yes, they always need money - like an antique car, a house, etc. $7k seems like a lot! But year round that is a lot but you're not paying for hauling or storage somewhere - and you get you use your boat a ton. If you find the right boat it doesn't have to cost a fortune and you just need to budget carefully by setting aside reserves every month... And if you are detailed person and a DIY person, you will have a nicely maintained vessel and the costs won't sneak up on you... Go for it!

Nice vessel. I sailed a cape dory 33 for a while but couldn’t tolerate the cockpit traveller . Another flaw which cropped up was the ice chest installed right next to the engine. Used to leave steps up to dissipate the heat. This layout is much better.

I own an 1878 CD 30 Ketch and love the boat. However, a major issue with access to the Volvo 7a V drive engine room is dangerous to readily access shaft and suff box and replace belts etc. Our solution was to fabrigate an access hatch on the cockpit floor for repairs and engine and stuff box and shaft etc. Would never go to sea with out addressing these issues

Nice! -- QUESTION -- Could you give me a link to that Cape Dory 33 that sold already. Yes, I know it is gone, but I would love to see pictures of a mint 33 just to get perspective. Would appreciate it.

Sweet boat! Had to chuckle a bit when the author said..." actually looks attractive if you cleaned it up"... He's right ... beautiful britework in there. Just kidding... it's your baby... keep the love affair going! 👍
