In 987, Hugh Capet ascended the French Throne, beginning the Capetian Dynasty. Over the next several centuries, it would, at various times, spread to most Europe, making it one of the most influential European dynasties.

The Capetians would define European history for many years to come, and it still does so today in their leadership of Luxembourg and Spain. This, once again, proves just how much the ruler of one nation (in this case France) can influence the future ahead of said nation and many others in its vicinity.

+JohnnyElRed yes they have, I'm neutral I want something that works don't care if it's a republic or a monarchy, but the Bourbons are here to stay, and we all know that. Even more now that Philip VI has taken control, before I would have demanded a change because the crown was getting ever worse and worse, but now for me he's far more capable than any politician we vote to put there. Don't know about you but I don't want our current politicians to hold any other office, they've already spoilt enough and even more having a good head of state there.
@JohnnyElRed
@JohnnyElRed 7 лет назад
Casrv Sfv Capable? For what job? Posing in the photos for the diplomatic meetings? Her sister and her brother in law are still in the street after it was reflected clearly how our judicial system favors her, with a fiscal that got out of his way to defend her. The law treats the king and the royal family as if they were over it, and the rest of us. Meanwhile, they get 10 times more the salary of any of those policiticians. And not only the king. Members of the royal family, included the investigated for embezzlement.
@casrvsfv3172
@casrvsfv3172 7 лет назад
+JohnnyElRed hey first of all, I'm not justifying that they're still in the streets although I think he will get to prison sooner or later. I'm not going to list all the corrupt politicians out there because if you're Spanish you already know they're a lot so again the alternative is not less corrupt but far more. And as I said he is also more capable than our current politicians, they don't even know what to do, none of them knows anything about economy because to triumph in Spanish politics it's enough to play the right-left game that the civil war left us. Do you know about the sanctions the EU will put on Spain for the deficit if we don't have a budget by the end of October? Do you know a budget needs of a government? Well Spanish media decided not to talk about this, if you put two plus two they're incapable of forming a government and they hide that not doing so will bring a sanction that we, taxpayers will have to pay. Neither left nor right talk about this.
@casrvsfv3172
@casrvsfv3172 7 лет назад
+JohnnyElRed Philip has done a good job for the time he's been there, and his job is the same job a president of the republic has, posing for photos, going to meetings, stating the countries political stand, representing the sovereignty of the constitution... What do you think a president does? Now, doing that job he got to bring the US president to Spain after a decade of no direct contact between the two nations for example. He's met with lots of leaders such as the presidents of Colombia, France, the Netherlands, Mexico, Honduras, the US... Just to name some go search for the entire list if you want.

QQQ ׅ Actually, the Habsburgs never had their name in Spanish society, in Spain we called them _los Austrias_ or “the Austrians”, not the Habsburgs, because they were the branch that appeared from the house of Trastámara (the ruling family of Spain) after marrying the Austrian rulers (the Habsburgs). Internationally the Habsburgs had more prestige as they were from the Holy Roman Empire, so the rest of Europe assumed the Spanish house was absorbed into the Austrian name... the irony though is all the power of the Habsburgs came in reality from the Spanish Empire, the Spanish branch which was only Habsburg because of the husband of Joana, Phillip. On the other hand, the Bourbons always kept their name in Spain despite changing branch...

Though it is not as powerful as it once was and no longer reigns in its native country of France, the House of Bourbon is by no means extinct and has survived to the present-day world, predominantly composed of republics. The House of Bourbon, in its surviving branches, is believed to be the oldest royal dynasty of Europe (and the oldest documented European family altogether) that is still existing in the direct male line today: The House of Capet's male ancestors, the Robertians, go back to Robert of Hesbaye (d. 807) as their first secured ancestor and he is believed to be a direct male descendant of Charibert de Haspengau (c. 555-636). Should this be true, only the Imperial House of Japan would outmatch the Bourbon's age, being reliably documented - as a ruling house already - from about 540. ~from wikipedia

First of all, congratulations on your amazing work. I'm your fan. Just a correction, in which is related to the Portuguese Throne. In 1853 portuguese Queen Maria II died. However, the House of Bragança still continued to rule in Portugal. It was a dinastic rule: if the kingdom has a regnant queen, her husband, even if he doesn't renounce his foreign titles and claims, is unable to give his name to the royal princes, as the queen's name overpowers his in any circumstance. As a bargain, as soon as the first male prince (the successor to the throne) was born, the (then) prince consort was allowed to be king-consort and was numerated as so, followed by his family name (Maria I and Pedro III, which was also a Bragança; and Maria II and Fernando II of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha). So the House of Bragança ruled until the republican revolution of the 4th and 5th October 1910 and remained the main branch (as it is today, since the former ruling house of the Brazilian Empire is still knowk as the House of Bragança-Orleães).

The Capetians are still in France with the House of Orleans, although they haven't reigned since Louis-Philippe 1er. Since a few years there is a bitter conflict of legitimacy between the Orléans in France and the Bourbons of Spain because Louis XX claims to be the rightful heir to the throne of France as a direct descendant of Louis XIV. The current Prince of Orléans of course strongly disagrees, arguing that the spanish branch of the Bourbons has lost all rights to the French crown when Philip V (grandson of Louis XIV) signed the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), by which he renounced for himself and his descendants any right to the French throne so could become King of Spain.

I'd like to the see the Capetians back on the throne of France, their native country. Considering how things are going badly in France right now, and how politicians are hatred, they may have a chance. That would be quite ironic, France, the country spreading republican ideals all over Europe and overthrowing many old European monarchies, would go back to the system under which it evolved for more than 1000 years...

Well, funnily enough, France could have turned back into a monarchy after the fall of Napoleon the Third regime. At that time, a good deal of french were pro-monarchy, and it would've become one had the french heir hadn't been a dumb fuck. Refused to separate from the white flag and thus was forced to fuck off. There still were royalist in the french assembly at the eve of WW1.

The Normans and Plantagenets were vassals of the Capetians for their territories within the kingdom of France, but not for England, so England shouldn't be considered a "vassal thereof" of the Capetians.

0:38 you messed things up when you painted England blue. The Plantagenets were vassals of French kings but only from their dominion in France and actually only nominally. At least under Henry II. You should rather exclude those territories from France instead of including England under the Capetian rule.

In Luxemburg the duchess (from the house of Nassau) married a Capetian, so technically their children, including the new duke, are Capetians. They kept the name of Nassau however.
