Scott Collier as a lefty who plays righty, I can say product selection was my main driving factor for learning right handed, and besides you use both hands a lot any way so it's not even that big of a learning curve, I have three left handed mates who have done the same, in fact I know more leftys who play right handed than I do leftys who play lefty.
The blindfold challenge really is the best way to do these completely objective comparisons. I can't believe how my perception about what I'm playing changes as soon as I know what it is! I guess that's the power of brand & the emotional impact of just liking the idea of owning something. However, choosing a new guitar is about picking the "best" one for you, AND fulfilling some deep desire to own something just because it is what it is! Does that make sense? Sorry - got a bit deep there!!
CaptAnderton The emotional impact of wanting to own something is totally true. Looks does play a part. I was looking for an archtop and someone offered me an Aria Pro II FA71 for $130. That one sounded the best to me although it wasn’t set up properly. I also tried an Ibanez Joe Pass Emperor, a 60s Hofner, and an Eastman AR610. The cheapest guitar actually sounded the best to me, but I ended up forking $1,000 for the Eastman. I loved the way it looks, I spent so much time taking photos of it on my phone. I really liked the idea of owning a beautiful guitar. I step into my room and it’s the first thing I see. But when I play it, I couldn’t get the Wes Montgomery tone that I could with the Aria. I simply accepted the compromise....
I like these tests, recently a drummer turned guitarist, i used this technique, well i shut my eye's and attemptedto play, to purchase my new guitar which i thought was going to be a strat or tele of some kind, hopefully a fender. After spending 5 hours in my local music store playing everything from £100 to £4200 I walked out with a Gibson 2018 faded in worn Bourbon. A total surprise because i have never looked at Gibson's after i held one at the age of 14 and thought they were too heavy and being a Clapton fan was not the right look or guitar for me, but for me it felt the best sounded the best and looks lovely, thanks for giving me the right idea's to help me choose the right guitar for me!!! Keep up the good work =)
I thought it was funnier that Rob kept doing it after only 2 seconds of Lee playing lol whereas Rob will fiddle on each guitar for minutes on his blindfold challenges. Although in Rob's defense, Lee plays the same few chord progressions and simple pentatonic / blues scale runs.
You pay for the aesthetics and feel in a PRS core. the SE and core have basically the same wood and everything else. Swap the pups from a core PRS into and SE and I'd be absolutely shocked if someone could tell the difference in a test like this. That doesn't mean the core isn't significantly better in many other ways. I'd pay 2k more for: better details, more dramatic body carve, locking tuners, MUCH better sustain, better electronics, excellent warranty and customer service, more socially responsible (happy US employees), more bragging rights, plus having a badass instrument that can absolutely "do no wrong". If you think they are similar, you should probably try a PRS for yourself. Also, core PRS remain the only guitar that I haven't ever seen even a half-way convincing fake.
Benjamin Herbst The ending, when he tells the Captain that he made it through and to tell the cameras what's going on with him. It's what Sean Evans says after each episode of Hot Ones.
Rob Chapman OR let us see whether you recognize your own guitars among 10 other random guitars, played for 10 seconds! XD Thanks for video by the way. Loved it :-)
These blindfold tests are a true service to the consumer. As unbiased as it gets. A whole new channel devoted to this would be very popular i'd imagine. Good job guys
richardsim7 I’m happy someone can go find stuff like this because no one would go back to a movie like Blade just to find that one song in a semi forgetful scene lol
Maybe he knew it already. New Order are still a well loved band in the UK. It is worth watching that scene if you like Vampire films though, it's definitely the calling card for the film.
Say what you will, I think Lee's a man of integrity. I doubt they set this video up as a promo for Chapman. Plus, let's be real, those Chapman ML1's feel pretty nice
Fun video guys! I own a few S-type guitars including a G&L and the Passive Treble and Bass control on it lets you dial in a more traditional vintage tone - something which has been overlooked in your G&L videos. The push-pull pot also makes it sound like a faux Tele. You should really do a video on G&Ls and cover the set of features on offer especially on the S-500! 12" neck, thicker neck, heavier body (Tribute models), improved tremolo system, MFD pickups (ceramic instead of Alnico) and the quirky wiring. Leo Fender was most proud of his G&L guitars!
I died when Capt said he would prefer his guitar with lower action not knowing that he was playing his actually guitar. LMAO Rob's reaction was priceless! I've been watching the lads for years since 09. Love 'em!
I felt this was the first blindfold challenge that had a balanced choice of guitars and really worked. At least "I" thought it was the best one yet. Thanks Lee for going through that for us. I really appreciate it! ❤️❗️🎸 Edit to add. I think this was surprisingly informative. I also appreciated the humor in how you guys did this challenge. It was a lot of fun to watch.
Don’t let this video distract you from the fact that Yousician is the best way to learn, practice and master the guitar! Just grab your acoustic or electric and play along!
When i started playing guitar with a professional teacher I had no idea what I was doing; but now that i use Yousician I can play *totally radical* riffs!
Yes more vids like this I love the blindfolded challenges and when rob says “it’s his guitar” after he said the action int how he would have it I Laughed out loud ,love it 🤘☺️
So, blindfolded, you ranked a Chapman guitar alongside a rare Fender Custom Shop that has been hand built by a skilled luthier. That should be a proud moment, right there.
What I would like to see is something with old vs new strings. As a lot of guitar shops have guitars hanging up with old horrible strings and they make me not like them! Maybe mix it up with cheaper guitars with new strings and expensive ones with old strings - but somehow without knowing! As I think strings can make a big difference to the tone of a guitar and might make some people avoid or buy a guitar!
The fast changes and the similar riffs played made it nice to compare the sound of each as a viewer. Your focus, understandably, was on the feel and playability. I liked the sound of your strat and the light blue one best.
Hey Captain no need to apologise for Rob setting you up with the Chapman model. The most hilarious comment from trolls I see in these comments is “all they’re trying to do is promote Anderton’s gear to sell it”. No shit Sherlock! This is the video channel for the shop. It’s literally your business to promote and sell us stuff. Keep it coming!
Common sense in these comments. Thank god. It some times looks like a bunch of spoilt kids comment on these videos. I wonder how many of them are members of their colleges Socialist/Communist club.
I was about to say that I missed the blindfold challenges! Always love these! By the way, the youtube audience needs a review for the new flying V from Joe Bonamassa!!!!! PLEASE HURRY UP WITH THIS VIDEO!!! Much love from Barcelona!
Lee during blindfold tests “are you sure these aren’t all the same?” Rob during blindfold tests “I may be wrong but it sounds blue... like... a blue maple cap, probably a PRS”
That Chapman was pretty sweet too...they're not usually my style but im seriously warming up to them to the point where I could really see myself investing in a good one....even the more affordable ones seem killer...it's just a bit different because I guess im a traditional fender guy, but sometimes something a bit outside of your normal comfort zone is such a turn on...something about rob's guitars are just beautiful...it's like meeting a woman in the most unexpected way, and you can only say wow.....
The g&l, Lee's 54 reissue and the sonic blue custom shop were my top 3. (Edit) Also that elite strat just reinforces my opinion on noiseless pickups. Dead and lacking depth
Honestly I think this is a great way to choose a new guitar! If there's one that can jump out and make you say "I love it!" when you are blind folded and have only ten seconds to try each guitar, then you know it's the one!
I have to travel round to teach guitar and that video on the mini amps was very eye opening! I was considering buying one to take to my students. Do more vids on cheapo and beginners' gear!
I still say...500-1000 bucks is the sweet spot with 2K being the upper limit in most cases. Beyond that, they're not going to sound all that much different!!
What a great video. I love these blindfold videos. I love Chappers and the Captain in a video! I liked the whole quick turn around speed dating sort of thing. It was really a fun video. It's Rob's turn now with.... flying v's? That would be a laugh. :)
