I feel like eventually we are going to be just like the old boomers with their classic muscle cars at the local car shows. Except we will all have 80s/90s cars and they will be the new classics.

I was a teen in the 90's when the import car scene was really revving up, today its just not the same, the people and culture is all about social media content, people don't even have entertaining stories anymore, its pretty boring aside for the cars looking really good, no one has a good conversation just blown up egos, in the 90's it was so fun, a weekend event was super exciting, we drove our Intergas, Civics, 240sx, Supras, RX7, 300ZX, etc etc down to Englishtown NJ Raceway Park and had a blast, seeing all the new stuff, vendors, competitions, it was epic, just seeing other riders going down the NJ Turnpike to the event was mind blowing, we tagged along and rolled together no hate just love

It dissapoints me how most people don't care unless you've done something crazy and made it super fast and ooo turbo flutter and wide body and camber so bad you go through 1 set of wheels a day. If you don't have those things the general internet really doesn't care about your car or the work you've done to your car.

@@TheFK8Life in the social aspect of things there is a sense of community in being an enthusiast and it seems as though if you don’t have a crazy expensive build or 800+ whp tire shredder the build you spent months and maybe years working on gets overlooked even though you know you like it there’s nothing like sharing the work you’ve done to a fellow enthusiast who can understand and appreciate certain aspects.

@@DonkeyPooo1 You are responsible fpr the community you associate with. When I started racing in my teens I found fellow racers who ended forming a club. We met weekly and discussed our cars, mods, plans and enlisted help for wrenching. We supported eachother on track days, cheered eachother on and pushed cars of we had to (blown motors) Not everyone liked our cars, our club or us personally - so what. We had eachother. 20+ years later we are still friends - oldee, kids and still building projects across the country. You are responsible for building your automotive tribe. Do not seek the approval of strangers - they dont care. Do you and the people who do take an interest probably share similar passions, tastes and goals. Befriend them - help them and in return they will do the same. Those are real bonds that last a lifetime. Getting recognition from people who dont give a rats ass about you is worthless. Cars are expensive - time consuming and dangerous. People go bankrupt, get killed or seriously injured alot. People not into cars will call it a waste of time - ignorance mostly. The tribe you form will ultimately fuel you - your goals and assist you in getting there. Your automotive journey is sort of like a lifelong quest.......in the beginning it may seem impossible., but thats where forming a tribe becomes most important. With car friends you will go very far as a team. Much further than you could ever go alone and having alot more fun along the way. Find your tribe

Because of this, I've noticed something rather sad with the car market. Cars that have big aftermarket support are now starting to move away from being affordable to teenagers like me, meanwhile cars that are actually cheap, most of them don't have decent aftermarket support. While I would like to start my car community journey with something like a 90's economy car, I can't say the same for many of the people around my age, they want to start with popular clout culture cars, but with prices hiking up, most of them can't afford those cars, and some of them will quit becoming car enthusiasts, while some others could fall for money traps because they wanted those cars that bad, it's sad. Really the saving grace for car enthusiasts here in my country (Malaysia) are local tuning shops, as international aftermarket companies don't bother with the Malaysian car enthusiast market. At least clout culture here isn't as big as it is in Western countries, but they're there. Businessmen started buying Ecoboost Mustangs mostly just to flex (they already couldn't afford the GT because of displacement regulations here), traders buy Lamborghini Uruses to mostly do the same thing, it's sad. Although one silver lining is that I can just start entering the car community here with a modded economy car, the bar is really low here. But the problem is getting worse day by day (coupled with the rise of EVs and how modifications on cars are being increasingly regulated), and I'm afraid for the possibility that future generations don't even want to be car enthusiasts and that my generation is pretty likely to be the last generation that can truly be enthused by cars, I don't want my eventual child to be left out of the car community because of the lack of a community...

imagine how I feel at 35 and seeing the amount of change over the last 20 years for me. All the more reason why I keep myself off of social media as much as possible. As for the veterans in this community, I believe that help should be given as much as possible! I say we embrace as much positive as we can. Wanna camber out your Honda Odyssey? Do it! Widebody a stock 1995 Toyota Corolla? Go for it. Make a fully built NB Miata for track racing? Hell yeah. There are a ton of flavors in the community, and even if there isnt a flavor, make one. Those ROCKET BUNNY and LIBERTY WALK kits are simply *inspired by the race cars of the past!* *Most race cars had riveted fenders to make it easy and quick to fit wider wheels/tires for the track because it was FUNCTION OVER FORM* On a street car it looks cheap and rather ugly... Unless you replace the whole fenders or actually mold it in to the car, it's not a real widebody! Back in the day it was properly done!

I remember going to Hot Import Nights in the early 2000s, it was the first time I had seen a MK4 Supra and R34 in the flesh. Back then you needed sponsors to get your car looking that damn good. And it had to be tht good if you wanted models taking pics from various companies with your car and the dream of seeing your build in your favorite magazine. It took a lot more hard work back then. I honestly think that being able to build a car and it actually be an investment making money for you on social media is pretty damn cool. You don't really need sponsors anymore unless you're racing but social media is also a great way to get them too. Back then you got chump change for winning at car shows to what you can potentially make on views shares and likes. Who have thought tht building a car could actually form a stream of passive revenue.

I may not have had my car for long (got it back in mid '17) but I have been into cars since I could walk and since then I've noticed how so much has changed and truly it makes me wish I had been born much earlier so I could have gotten some of the cool cars that are now so expensive and out of reach for not only myself but many of us who appreciate them and honestly this is why I like basic run of the mill cars that no one cares about, because they stay cheap purely bc no one really cares about them and people who do aren't a dime a dozen like if I had an Accord. I've met so many people in the Camry community that are super cool and down to earth, it's how I met a long time friend who's been like a mentor to me on the platform and continues to help me out with things when I have tough situations I'm not familiar with. I feel like we're really gonna be the oldheads we used to talk so badly about, but now I see why so many of them have the mindset they do, because a lot of these builds and the reason people get into cars nowadays isn't for themselves or because the like cars, they do it because social media said it was cool and that it's a popular thing to do which has lead to the inflation (that was already there and bad to begin with) of enthusiast cars, gone are the days of a $2k clean and running S chassis, E36, or 300ZX and it truly makes me sad because the cars that are still within reach are still somewhat out of reach for someone working a basic job like myself

It is crazy to look back and see how things have changed. I was 14 in 1994. Got my first car in 1999 at 19. It was a 2nd Gen Integra. I was 21 when the first Fast and Furious came out. I remember back in 1999-2000 going past the used car lot that sold muscle cars and seeing the car I wanted so bad. A 1969 Roadrunner! They had some nice ones around $20k. Seemed like so much money back then. The most computer exposure I had was my roommate would get on AOL chat rooms. Thought it was kinda neat I guess. Different than what I was used to. My first cell phone was the old school brick style Nokia phone that everyone had in 2000! Haha! Changing the body of the phone so it was clear and see through and you could make it light up on the inside! Was a damn fun time back then ! Delivered pizza and used an actual paper map back then to find where people lived. Doesn’t show houses though so you got to know how to figure that out too. Fun times back then ! Technology has a lot of cool things, but I also miss the days of no technology. Well not to the level of today’s.

I feel like the car meet and social media platform culture has gotten quite bad. Especially here in Belgium where it's not just "a car meet", no, it's a "tuning meet" where the expectation is that your car "at least is stanced". However, at the grassroots racing events I've made some amazing friends, talking about what upgrades we should do, what cars could be fast, the best racing lines, checking out eachothers' cars, or just helping eachother out, even if just changing the street set over to the semis. Just talking function, and if you got some style along with that, that's cool too. Just a shame that these events don't happen weekly (or would be far too costly if they were).

I had a lot of hate buying my brz, mainly about it being slow, small, and a subaru. I honestly learned a lot on this car and I wouldn't change getting this car if I could. I honestly hope people realize it's more than horsepower, size, or brand.
@hydrohyperdrive8443
@hydrohyperdrive8443 2 года назад
Exactly horsepower is not everything, I'm Gen Z and most kids like to F with the engine immediately when putting your money into the suspension, Brakes, and semi to fully stripped interior really changes how the car handles and performance. People don't understand that underpowered cars like a Honda Si, Miata or Subaru BRZ can blow doors off some 500HP behemoth when it comes to corners. I've taken my own car a 1997 Celica Lift back I'm currently working on, and let me tell you its super light and nimble, loves ripping around corners like no tomorrow.
@hydrohyperdrive8443
@hydrohyperdrive8443 2 года назад
Most kids who immediately start throwing crap on the motor most likely don't know what they are doing. Cold air intakes sound cool yes, but overall they are really useless unless you get a tune and also depends where you place it in your engine bay. Plus the people who cry about if your car is a manual or stick shift or think they are better then everyone else cause they drive a stick shift are really annoying, its all personal preference, most automatic cars today are so well engineered they'll blow the doors off most manual cars or keep up with them just fine. BRZ's are really cool 😎 so don't let peoples stupid comments bring you down. The RU-vidr "Bladed Angel" talked quite a bit about how underestimated those BRZ's are actually and why they are not all that slow as others may think.

This video speaks to me on a deeper level for 2 years I've had my sc300 my 14th car and overall nicest one I've ever owned simply because it's an SC. With steadily knocking things off my bucket list (i.e buying brand new wheels, brand new body kit, etc) to eventually going nat on the 2jz that came stock with the car to now finally trying to get it to run right. It takes time but I truly believe when it's finally going down the road sounding and looking the way I want it too. It'll be truly something special I don't give a fuck about clout. The SC has been a day one obtainable dream car since drifting it around maple Valley in forza motorsport 4. I'm building this car because it's all I've ever wanted Ives sacrificed everything to get it to where it's currently at. I dont come from a rich family and I don't have any money that I don't earn myself. It takes time and knowing and seeing the vision of what the end product will be it helps deter the people that talk down on my cars. I'm still here and I'm still standing I refuse to let anyone or anything get in my way. This life is yours. Own it.

The number 1 and biggest thing is to be yourself and do what makes you happy. The "scene" will always evolve and rotate as time goes on. Trends from the past will re appear again, certain "one hit wonders" will phase out but as long as you build your car to make you happy thats all that matters. Doesnt matter what you drive. The "high school" phase of car building is what builds more character in you as a car enthusiast. Enjoy it! Enjoy the cringy moments, when you look back and realize, "did I really do that to a Tiburon?! hahah. It makes you grow and the lessons are always a reward! As far as views and likes. When I started my channel (not this account) there was sooooooo many worries and stresses about what to film, how to gain followers ASAP and make a name. After two years ive realized my best videos, and the ones that make me happiest, are the ones where I was myself. Builds take time. Thats the way it is. If people watch then thats amazing! but if not, I cant feel pressure or worried about how I wont gain followers because my car isnt up to scene standards, or that funds may not be there. When it comes to sponsorship, I cant stand when people flock around certain companies, or beg for free stuff over likes and views. The point of sponsorship is to gain a healthy relationship with a company that you look up to, and have a tremendous amount of respect for. How can you help each other? Make a great bond and have fun! Nothing better than chilling out at a show or track day with people that support you while supporting them. Team effort is way better than free parts, and you learn alot from companies when it comes to just having fun and enjoying your passions as one. Cheers

@@OrrinWhitley It's not as bad as the car scene. The car scene is as getting worse and worse year by year. A good example If you don't small talk with someone about your car they gethey get very defensive about that and start to flip out. If you have a car that may come off as flashy people expect you to socialize with them and small talk with them regardless of they know you're not. The car scene these sucks. Car availability is really impacting it. Finding a 90s car that’s in good shape and not $$$$ is very tough. In the early 2000s there’s just less options that are compelling. I’ve been in the car scene for most of my life since I was 17, and I hate the direction it’s going. There’s no stories with cars anymore. Nobody can talk about why they love their specific car, what got them into their car, nobody branches out, nobody has anything to say about it. It’s because people aren’t buying cars they actually like, they just feel the need to get what everyone else has. They’re all just caught up on their own egos and trying to make themselves feel special. Try this: walk up to one of the 50 white/grey/black S550 Mustang owners at your local car meet, and ask them why they chose that car over anything else. I started getting into older Japanese motorcycles, and the enthusiasm is WAY different, because everyone who’s serious about it actually WANTS their bikes, not because they were pressured into them so they can “stay relevant”. There’s no fun in it anymore, and it makes me sad just thinking about it.

For now on, im making “park and chill” car meets only for people who actually want to learn about cars and racing and drifting. Stop pulling up to meets in your moms stock Honda Odyssey and filming tik toks for attention, nobody gives a f*ck. And its those people who put neon underglow and anime stickers on their car and call it a “build”. What happened to liking cars for the motors, smells, sounds, history, racing, drifting, and tuning/building potential?
