My gf-now-wife, we're middle aged, wanted to buy a car on her own. We decided she wanted a Corolla, she'd look at a Civic. Naturally, they rolled up some sh*t box at the first dealer, after being told what she wanted. She started to walk, they brought out the low mile Corolla, boom. She's had it ever since. I was very proud of her.

I work at a Domino's and literally 90% of my co-workers' cars are Toyotas, most of them being the same gen Corolla you mentioned (the pic, that is). There's also two 5th gen Camrys. I myself drive a 3rd gen Camry. Only bad thing about Toyotas is you can't call out of work with the excuse of your car being broke down lmao

A Honda Accord is also a good reliable sedan. I own a 2007 Accord 4cyl with 133K miles on it and it still runs like a dream. For longevity, I would buy a 4cyl model over a V6 due to higher maintenance cost(timing belt replacement mostly) and depending on the model year, some of the V6's were known for transmission issues as well.

My first car was a 92' Toyota paseo and it was an amazing car! I bought it for $800 and it ran up to 300,000 before the timing belt broke. I 100% agree with the wizard, Toyota all the way!

You’re right, no one listens. I tell most of my friends that ask to buy a Toyota. Very low maintenance and they just seem to run without many issues.

My family had a Toyota Sienna minivan when I was growing up. We put over 200k miles on it over 15 years and I can’t remember ever having a major issue with it. My dad sold it when I was a senior in high school and I still see it every now and then around town with the new owner so apparently it’s still going and going.

2008 Tundra with 210,000 miles. Still smooth as a new one.

I’ve had a lot of reasons for stress and anxiety in my life but owning Toyotas and Hondas weren’t among them. My 2018 Civic EX-T currently has 83,000 miles and running trouble-free. Of course, I maintain it meticulously (especially because it’s a turbo engine) but not a single problem in over three years. Looking forward to many more years with it.

It’s so funny because I own the exact same color on the Nissan Altima and the Corolla mostly likely same year..my Nissan 2012 its at 120k and no issues at all just regular maintenance...and my 2010 Toyota Corolla is at 190k and absolutely no issues other than just the alternator and regular maintenance...yes I’ve been blessed with my vehicles since I bought them new and never hesitated on maintenance or repairs needed ..one thing I’ve learned is that if you take care of your vehicle it’ll take care of you.. Update on my 2012 Nissan Altima..it’s at 150k still running great and smooth…Corolla is at 230k also running good except I have a idle issue I need to address other than that it’s great

In Oct 2018, I traded in my '02 LeSabre (3800 series 2 engine) for a '11 Equinox. Three weeks later, the main seal went. The dealer agreed to an exchange and I went to a '10 Toyota Rav4. That Rav4 is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Rotary is an emotional buy ;-) Very unique. And engines are not super expensive when replacement needed. Other car parts of RX8 are solid. Also such a technical car with all the right stuff - RWD, LSD, double wishbone front, 5 multilink back, luxury GT capabilities, great 4 seater and 290L trunk space... I LOVE IT but I know about the risks. :-)

We bought a accord in 2009 with 4 miles on it. Its been passed on from my wife to son to my youngest daughter. It has 169k miles now. Still runs like a champ!Only replaced tires ,brakes, & one battery. Strictly ran Mobile1 & shell premium gas. After owning a Tahoe& Escalade I am seriously thinking about going back to Honda! Bigger more expensive doesn't mean better.

My ‘12 Nissan Juke blew up on me recently (yay for electrical issues! but for real no one got hurt thankfully) and I wound up getting the chance to test drive a Yota, and that was it. I was stuck on getting a Yota, and now, I have my ‘17 Rollie 💙

Nissan's problems started when they started sharing parts with Renault. I can tell the French parts on Nissans with their 15mm bolts.

My Nissan Altima has been my reliable daily for 6 years. But it's a 1994.

I own a 2000 Nissan Maxima and have been driving this car for 17 years with no real major issues. Regular oil changes, couple of ignition coils, and put a new clutch in years ago. That's pretty much it. Not too bad on gas. getting 320 miles per tank. Love my car!

I am one that have taken that advice, getting a highlander to pull my waverunner, after hundreds of reviews and searching, it gets my vote. Your other recommend, the ford focus I have had since I bought it off the show room floor, it just passed108,000 miles other than the deplorable transmission that needs the clutch redone every 50k it's been perfect, haven't even had to replace the brakes yet. Oil changes regularly and it runs like a dream. The interior is spotless and looks brand new, they used some premium trims in the titanium.

Yep, you're right regarding a Toyota. I bought a 2005 Corolla CE in 2009 and it lasted me until 2021 and it had 230,000 miles on it. I never had major issues with it. I now have a 2009, my son's car, and it has 138,000 miles and is a sports Corolla and it is 2023 so I will be driving it for a long time.

Our little 2009 Civic has been a dream! Fit and finish is better than the much newer Corola I was loaned when my truck was in the shop for warranty work (I'm a big fan of Toyota, but that loaner car felt cheaply made, even though I know they're super reliable) Needs weather stripping redone, but since my wife rolled it off the lot 12 years ago, it has had regular maintenance AND THATS IT! That little car is a champ.

I took the advice... bought a used 2019 Camry with 12k miles on it. I keep my cars for about 10 years so I hope it works well for us. Thanks for the video.

I've owned a Corolla and Civic. My daily driver is a 2010 Civic coupe. I love the car for just total bullet proof reliability. I use Mobil One only and just regular maintenance. I drive this thing all over the country. I owned a Corolla wagon, 5 speed. The thing with the Corolla......nobody wants to steal them and they are cheaper on parts. They are just bullet proof cars and cheap and comfortable enough. I get the same issue....people ask what to get their kids or they need a car....I ALWAYS tell them "find a Corolla". They do not listen. I've been a mechanic all my life....I'm a professional restoration mechanic and work on some of the most sought after, rare and exotic cars you can imagine......pebble beach level stuff. Seriously....I can back up EVERYTHING this guy is telling you in this video!! I don't work as much on the modern stuff as he does but I know more than enough to know this guy is spot on. Listen to him!!!

I have a 2011 is350 with toyota 3.5l engine.. no issues at all. Only now i have to do transmission fluid change. This is the 1st non perishable item that i have to replace... rock solid.

My 2004 Sentra has 222k (just bought it a few months ago but great so far), my 2008 Altima has 285k and I've had it for 10 years without a single issue, never garage kept, always driven hard and parked in the sun. Really, brakes, oil, fluids, that's pretty much it. Interior and exterior are mint, and no leaks. They are both the 6-speed manual..

RX330 and IS300 owner here. Both were under 7000$ when I bought them. Never ever let me down

its worth pointing out that even on the older subarus the headgasket issues are A) confined to the 2.5s (the 2.2 is probably the most reliable engine subaru ever made) and B) can be permanently fixed by swapping in a STI headgasket, which is MUCH stronger. the STI gaskets go right on and won't fail on an NA car unless you seriously botch the install.

I learned something. I have a leak on my oil filter adapter, those two hoses have drips, and I had no idea where it was coming from. When the Wizard said "oil filter adapter" that must be it. Now I know what I have to fix. I always thought those drips on the ground were the main bearing seal. Thanks.

Recently bought myself a Toyota Aurion (Basically a Camry). Plenty of room and lots of power and good gas mileage too.

I was lucky in 2010 to buy a 2007 Toyota Camry as a "Toyota Certified" used car. I say lucky for two reasons: I bought it in the midst of the controversy about Toyotas having those phantom/sudden acceleration problems, so I probably paid a couple thousand or so less than I would have. That was also a great deal because it gave me little to no trouble. Even with just FWD, the Camry went through some freak Pacific NW snowstorms like a tank (when using tire chains, of course). One day, when I had the Camry in the shop for routine oil change and inspection, I killed time looking at other Toyotas, and I spied the Avalon. That was sooooooooooooo nice inside! I promised myself I would get one when I turned 60 and started receiving my military reserve retirement pay, and sure enough, in 2016 I upgraded to another Toyota Certified car, a 2014 Avalon Hybrid Limited. The mileage is a bit mixed: I get less than the EPA city rating, usually in the low 30s, but when I'm on the Interstate, I actually get better than EPA estimates with around 43-44 MPG. It has been like a rock that has required nothing but routine oil changes! Now that I've gone back to my childhood hobby of flying rockets (but much bigger ones), we have a central Oregon desert launching and camping site, and the Avalon isn't really an SUV, so I am seriously considering trading the Avalon. Although I've found some good deals on the Buick Enclave (poor MPG), Nissan Pathfinder (great towing capacity, but I just can't bring myself to trust that CVT), or the Kia Sorento (great reviews, but the dealers are all on the "wrong side of town" relative to me), I am still inclined to go with a Highlander.

I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna with 350,00 miles. I've had it for 8 years and put over 150,000 miles on it. Aside from basic maintenance, it's needed a front right wheel bearing, an ignition coil (1 out of 6), and new radiator fans. That's it. 350,000 miles and I've spent less than $1,000 on unscheduled repairs. Oh, and the van doesn't leak anything! As you like to say, It's as reliable as a rock. You get up in the morning and the rock is still a rock. 😊

The flipside to the RX-8 is that rotary engines are not that complicated. They're actually a lot easier to work on than piston engines. So if you're willing and able to learn a little bit, you can easily work on it yourself. Of course, you're still going to get bad gas mileage and burn a lot of oil (unless you switch to premix). I love rotaries and the RX-8 is a really fun car to drive, but the gas mileage REALLY prevents it from being a daily driver for me.

The man is giving us good advice. I did listen to a mechanic friend of mine and I asked him what would be a good car for my daughter. He said to get a Corolla. This was back in 2012. I found a 2010 CE, with traction control, with only 30,000 KM. My daughter is rough on cars. The car now has 220,000 KM on it and I went over it and found a torn CV joint boot, leaking drivers strut front, bearing gone on the driver's side, brakes needed doing and a few other things. I had to replace the alternator about 2 years ago. Frankly, an easy job on a Corolla takes about 1 hour and is a good time to replace the serpentine belt at the same time. So I decided to do the repairs myself and do some proactive maintenance at the same time. Replaced both struts with KYB strut kits, replaced both CV axels, replaced both front wheel bearings,( I had a shop I know press in new bearings,$60.00). I decided to replace the stabilizer links, ball joints, and outer tie rods, New sparkplugs, when you remove the CV axels on a Corolla about 4 quarts of transmission fluid comes out, so replacing it with 4 quarts of new transmission fluid is like a full fluid change in my books. The thing I find working on the Corolla is that it is an easy vehicle to work on. All the nuts bolts etc are of better quality than my Infiniti M 35X. The Corolla is a well thought out vehicle. I doubt the right strut would have needed to be replaced if she had not hit a very large pothole, I had noticed a large dent in the rim on the cars drivers side. I was able to order all the parts I needed from Rockauto, I only had to go to a Toyota dealership for the transmission fluid. I will have to replace the Infiniti soon so I think a Toyota product will be its replacement. The trusty 2006 Subaru Outback still looks good and runs well. I actually like the car, so I will keep it.
