Karen was so gracious. I always noticed how she'd give a little bow of appreciation when the audience would applaud as they recognized what song she was starting to sing. You can see it here, at the very beginning, right after she sings the words, "I'll say goodbye to love..."
@@buffalobraves9 It's Cubby O'Brien on the drums. He was one of the original Mouseketeers on the TV show as a kid in the 1950's. Hal Blaine was their studio drummer.
I wonder if Karen wished she was killin’ it on the sticks at the finale of this piece? This is certainly my most favorite Carpenter work, and will always be listened to, frequently and often. 💜💜🎶🎶
Karen Carpenter has such a beautiful voice💐💐💐💐💛💛💛💛💛! Karen Carpenter looks so beautiful in that white gown! And WOW😃😄 I love the use of the guitar in the song🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!
By far my favourite Carpenter song.“Goodbye to love”. Such a true reflection of life. And who knows, maybe a true reflection of Karen’s life. Maybe that’s why she sang the song with such passion and feeling. RIP Karen.
I only just found out from reading these comments, and then doing my research, that Tony Peluso died. ;( He was so talented and such a sweetie. He spoke so fondly of Richard and Karen and a part of me had the hunch that he loved KC.... At least now Tony and Karen can make great music together in heaven. I love you Karen and I love you Tony! RIP xx
Quite an amazing riff. Thanks for pointing it out. And leading into it she mimics the guitar "wee-ee-who, wee-ee-who". It's a shame she didn't just let loose like that on more recordings.
Karen is now teaching the angels how to sing. One of my first teen crushes And Richard was one of the great composers/producers in the music industry, This is the first "ballad" that had a great guitar/drum riff in the middle of it. A great song
Yes she truly had one of the great and most unique voices in music history!! They were a great group.....I have their greatest hits cd and I must say every song on there is awsome.....they even did an old Beatles song "Ticket to Ride" and they did a great job with it!! Too bad her life was cut short!
It was so cool to hear Karen scat during the Peluso solo (check at 2:00). Karen could use her voice as an instrument, rather than a medium for words. Is there anything that the magnificent Karen Carpenter couldn't do? Even backing up she is amazing. A beautiful and talented woman!
This awesome performance by Karen and the entire band with orchestra is the best Corona antidote I can imagine to lift your spirit. When that chorus of voices comes in you think it couldn't get much better until you hear Tony Peluso's fuzzed out guitar and the song goes to yet another level. The ending is so spectacular with Karen filling in on backing vocal. What this music has that much of today's music ignores is a build of intensity, level upon level. Think Let it Be, think Light My Fire and on and on. Only the greatest tunes and players seem to understand this. Impossible not to have an emotional reaction- exaltation. Thank you for the awesome post.
Her voice was absolute warm syrup and Tony Peluso was just ahead of his time. The drummer was (is?) no slouch either! Dig those extra single-headed toms added to the Ludwig Vistalite!
Wow, so incredible. What I wouldn't give to have been a part of that. I can imagine how those two felt, going from playing at their high school to this massive set up with brand new expensive equipment and wardrobe. It must've been so surreal.
Even though 76 was a rough year for Karen ... man this is an awesome LIVE version of their song! They sounded live! I'd rather listen to the slight imperfections when live then the perfectly sounding "live"... You know what I mean?
I think she should have stayed behind the drums, as that was her niche. She was possibly one of the best American drummers of the C20th, possibly on a par with Ginger Baker.
Yes-------------RIP, Tony & Karen, & any others from their band, who may have passed. -------------As i say, once upon a time, WE WERE YOUNG. -------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
