I was lucky enough to wait on Karen , Richard and their band at a Howard Johnson restaraunt 1970. They invited me to their show at the Marco Polo lounge in Hollywood Beach, Fl. We sat maybe 20 ft. From Karen. She was lovely ❤ My boyfriend at the time went with me and we married in 1973. Our wedding song "We've Only Just Begun. We just celebrated our 50th anniversary in August. I will always be grateful for meeting them.
grew up on the other side of the causeway. Looking at the Marc polo. I used to sneak in there they had a small arcade with few games. Good times! I miss going to the Rascal House and I remember all the old motels along sunny isle beach and Newport pier. Ocean walk in Hollywood beach. Born and raised in Hollywood and North Miami beach, Hallandale, Dania. LOL your comment just brought me back, very nostalgic. I haven't been back in years. But I know it's all changed down there. The Howard Johnsons, If I remember correctly, it was right off 95. We used to eat there a lot when I was a kid.
The HoJo' I worked at was directly across the street (Ocean Blvd.) from the Marco Polo Lounge. Also waited on Kenny Roger's and his family when he played there . Lovely people.
This song was playing on the radio 44 years ago as I drove to the church to marry the very man she sings about. Yes we'd only just begun, but we are still together, sharing horizons that are new to us. We are still learning about each other, he 77, me 72.
The very man she sings about? This song was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols for a bank commercial. The Carpenters only picked it up to play as a full song afterward. I'm not understanding what you mean.
Usually when I hear the word “remastered” I’m like yeah whatever, I can’t tell the difference. But this appears to be way better than the original 1971 footage that I’ve been watching for years. I can really tell the difference. Great quality. Especially from 1971.
Yes, pure perfection, I'm a Hard Rock and Metal fan at heart but when I hear or watch Karen sing I get emotional She was absolute pure perfection and full of soul. God rest her soul....
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the quality of this footage. The people who remastered this quality, thank you very much. Karen will live on forever and ever!
@@jamesmmahoney Thanks for confirming what I thought. Last night I watched the whole BBC concert, and I thought the same thing you said. 😊 Karen!!! ....I just love her.
This was on the radio today and it struck me how powerful Karen Carpenter's voice actually was. The length of time she was able to hold those notes and make it sound so beautifully effortless...awe-inspiring. Rest In Peace, Karen.
The thing with her voice is it's just so so so clear! I understand and relate to every story...and that's the way music should be. A story with a tune.. Her voice is like liquid gold! So smooth! So clear!
I agree 120%. What I don't agree with is Rolling Stone's Top 100 "Greatest Singers" of All-Time. With #100 just making the list, Karen Carpenter was ranked #94 -- what!?!? I kept listening & finally we came to Bruce Springsteen. A guy I can seldom understand any words he's singing, ranked #37. I stopped listening after that BS. Bruce was a great entertainer. Karen should've placed within the Top 3 "Greatest Singers" on that list & many would say #1 😎
Salvation is free forever for everyone that believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died for our sins and He was buried and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures, to save us from eternal judgement and give us eternal life. Believe it in your heart and Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and you will be sealed unto eternal life forever. Guaranteed!
I was just getting born when she sang this song live. I'm 48 now and I only can pick a handful of singers that captivates me when they sing live. She is one of them. Her voice is one of a kind.
Its not just Karen's unworldly ability to sing like an angel, THE BAND can pull off this song LIVE ....with all the harmonies!!! On a set for television too. I don't care what genre of music you play, these guys and this band are incredible!! Any musician that has played live in any band can understand how good this is.
A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH ----- THE EPITOME OF LYRICAL MUSICAL PERFORMED BY THE QUEEN OF MUSIC - MRS CARPENTER - MAY HER MUSIC LIVE ON FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
Bill Wilson I know..... it's tragic? What does it take to make humans appreciate what they have and be happy with their lot?...We are so hard to please...:-)
The more videos I watch of Karen's performances, the more and more I fall in love with her. And at the same time, the more and more heart-broken I feel....... it's PAINFUL! :( I know she's up in Heaven somewhere, singing in the presence with many other vocal legends... not like some kind of "lonely cloud"!
All these many years later, did the people who saw her live realize her gift? She had the soul of a Mississippi blues singer and the voice of an angel. She always manages to me to silence. Just remarkable.
04/22/2017: 48 years to the day/date (1969) that Karen & Richard signed with A & M. Thank you Karen, Richard, and band members for all the wonderful music you created. Many thanks also to Herb A. & Randy M. for giving The Carpenter's the opportunity. Missing you terribly Karen, and I am planning to play/listen to all of your singing and music today.
A mistake I'll regret for a lifetime, never attending a Carpenters concert . Those sounds will never be duplicated again. She stands alone in that light imo.
Karen carpenter is the only female vocalist that brings me to tears her voice just melts my heart. Born in the early 70's I was lucky enough to feel her touch at a young age.
Award winning song, originally debuted in a wedding-themed television commercial for Crocker National Bank in California in the late winter of 1970, with Paul Williams providing the vocals.
It almost breaks my heart to listen to this song given the way Karen left us but it is so beautiful I listen anyway. Godspeed to you Karen Carpenter, I know you are singing with the angels now!
gorgeous Karen here for sure. Prime time. An angelic voice and a touch of touch of the deep in perfection. Karen you were magic, your song writing partner wrote some truly great stuff. Will never get tired of hearing your voice !!!
niteboatermusic What I thought was really sad was that they just finished a concert in Vegas and a critic made reference to her being the "chubby sister". And that got everything started and her health went downhill. SAD.
Maybe my favorite Carpenters version of all the Carpenters versions of this tune. Partly because of the reminder that women used to wear peasant skirts and blouses like that in the early 70s, partly because she showed her very human side by forgetting most of the second line of the lyrics (but recovering nicely), and, most importantly, because Karen appears here happy and light. I'm afraid she did not have a whole lot of that in her life. But what a voice. Woo.
Karen is fantastic - I nearly had said, as always. Don't know if she realized on stage that the wind instruments are a bit obtrusive, but I admire her self-control given the goofy drumming. Oh my God - she would have beaten the pants off that hack. Into the bargain, she would have sung same nicely while playing the drums herself.
On a whim I looked and listened to this song, so far back in my innocent youth. I saw the Carpenters at the Chevron Hilton. How beautiful. How sad is life. And for me I thought I had only Just Begun, but not to be, so sad not to share when you are getting older. Thank you Dear Karen, it was a special time..
Check this out! I listen to all types of music, including the King, The Beatles, Etc. I have never heard a voice like this ever! And she is live with this performance. Probably one of the best singers ever!
This song is being used on a UK tv advert at the moment. At first you think.. that’s not a bad version.. then you hear the original and realise that no one should ever cover a Karen Carpenter song!
Part of the soundtrack of my youth. And all these years later, I still can't get over how good it is. You can certainly tell, this is not "dubbed" or digitally enhanced or anything, this is just good live music (at least her singing, I'm sure some of it was studio work dubbed in, but the singing....) Beautiful, and sad.
What a beautiful voice Karen had. R. I. P. Karen. They harmonized so well. Richard knows his stuff, you can tell by the way he plays his electric panio. Happy holidays Richard. Peace and Blessings to thiis holiday season.
