The Cars Candy-O & Panorama Expanded Editions - interview with Ric Ocasek 

In 1979 I talked my mom into letting me buy a Cars album. Being a 9 year old kid I bought Candy-O thinking it had all the songs I knew from the 1st album. I did not know they had a 2nd album. We asked for The Cars album and the guy gave us Candy-O. To make a long story short I was not disappointed at all. I immediately fell in love with it and listened to it with headphones on my JCPenny's turntable over, over, and over. I can never get enough of Night Spots! To me personally it's still the best Cars record or even one of the best records period. It just has this edge to it that I love. All 5 guys really shine on this record but Ben and Elliot's playing take it to the next level. I thank the Cars for years of great music and great memories.

The thing about the Cars was their sound was unique. The second you heard them on the radio you knew it was them.

I'm glad I bought the new vinyls and still have my originals. The etchings are so cool and it's awesome hearing the albums as if just released new like in the late 1970s and 1980. Live hearing Benjamin's singing even more clearer and like RIC said his bass playing even more prominent. Candy O the song from Northern Studios omg is out of this world. Love all versions of that song . Love the albums the guitars are so great. Thank you RIC and surviving members for bringing The Cars back. You made Benjamin proud! And I have digital formats also but vinyl still #1! Lastly I love the never released before songs- like buying a brand new album! Could mainstream please play you guys again? Maybe new unreleased songs can hit the Billboard charts again. Thank you RIC and RIP Benjamin.

If you are a Cars fan you need to get these 2 re-mastered albums. The sound is amazing and you need to hear all the extras. So much fun. I hope they do the rest real soon.

It was a privilege for me to have lived in the 80's...

Wish they'd play live again. I know there's a big hole left without Ben, but it'd still be great to hear the other members play.

I still have all the albums. Such a cool experience to play them for the first time and hear their new direction on each album. Like the difference between Candy-0 and Panorama was one and a half years, but a huge leap into electronic New Wave from what I considered straight forward Rock.

Is there a longer clip or a full interview? I'd love to see it.

He mentions how the bass is so much clearer on cd I remember when i listened to radio in the car, the bass was always muddy...in fact the treble was always dimed when i listened to radio . Its the way it was. And radio was the medium by which we heard new music. Songs were arranged to sound great that way

Interesting comment about the Bass, Ben Orr's playing and what he was hearing for the first time, Keith Richards discovered a similar surprise when remastering Stones albums like "Some Girls" and becoming a fan of Bill Wyman's bass playing. Remastering is a good idea!

Candy-O may have been my first shoplifted vinyl in my brief career of crime.

All Ric has to do is dye his 'hair' blonde, and he'd be a dead ringer for Garth.

Do a reunion tour. Would be awesome.

Benjamin Orr played the bass like a lead guitar. If your sound system is good enough, you can hear the clicking of his pick on the strings.

I used to play in a lounge band back in the very early 80's and saw the cars and doobie brothers back then in Petosky Michigan, they stayed at the same hotel, should have went up and talked to them more, once in a lifetime ya know

:13 and..... don't screw with the ORIGINALS. Let it rest. Trying to improve those old albums is like Rembrandt painting over his paintings hoping to make them more modern. I'm sick of all these record companies knowing that people are ignorant of audio and they need ANOTHER ALBUM to sell and they pull up old tracks, add a bit more verb to the snare and voila, ANOTHER ALBUM TO SELL!

I love The Cars, but I'm not buying the albums again. Vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes, cd's, music video dvd, Greatest hits cd, and digital downloads for my mp3. Yeah, i think I've bought them enough times.

He reminds me of Alice Cooper with glasses.

remastering is just a record company with nothing more to do than create another album to sell. Leave the originals alone!
