@Jantelover Man, you said it! The "outtro" ***IS*** the best. I love driving in the car while listening to this, and getting my daughters (they're 11 and 7 years old) to sing along with that, so we're all singing, "Tonight. . . she's a lot like you. . . she's the dangerous type. . . tonight. . . oh she's a lot like you. . . come on and hold me tight. . . tonight. . . ." Wonderful!
15,763 songs i've ever heard and this is still my very favorite... the song is so great you almost forget about eliot's solo missing, as great as that (always) is... only complaint is the song is too short, but that's cuz i can never get enough of that outro -- 3:11 is, for me, the most exciting moment in all of music,,, they stretch it live to fine effect, but the studio version is aural euphoria... thank you slance for your continuing dedication to this very special music
wow! best cars song ever. These guys really know what real music is. I grew up in the 80's and they are the only band that still sounds good. way to go cars , my favorite band.
This is not a DEMO, it is a monitor mix. And BTW the entire Candy-O album including the two outtakes are available in this form. The main differences would be the lack of lead guitar parts, different keyboard mix, no backing vocals, and some of Ben's vocals are slightly different. Also, the tape box lists "Let's Go" as " Night Life Baby" and "It's All I Can Do" as "One Too Many Times". The only circulating Candy-O demo I'm aware of is a 4:43 version of "Let's Go" that Ric posted when he started his website.
Whether a demo, live performance, monitor mix, studio set...it doesn’t matter, these guys are good. And it’s an acid rock-heavy metal aficionado who grew up in the 1960’s-70’s saying this!
Alex, the difference is no guitar solo in the middle and the keys are different in the back ground. I have heard this song a few hundred times. They dont carry out the repetative ending (which is my fav part of the song). It is my favorite cars song of all time by far. Ok not by far but at the top for sure. Moving in Stereo is a close second.
Fantastic demo isn't it?! Assuming we're all Cars fans here, PLEASE be aware they put out a great album in 2011 called 'Move Like This' which is really great. It's a brilliant fusion of the first album, Candy-O with a fresh never-heard-before sound as well.
>only complaint is the song is too short, but that's cuz i can never get enough of that outro -- 3:11 is, for me, the most exciting moment in all of music I love that you can nail the exact time of your favorite moment! This outro does indeed transport the listener, with David's amazing drum variations ("drum rolls" sounds too fancy). The song makes me think of the last day of the school year. Such a good feeling, on that day, everyone happy. I felt I'd even miss the snobbish, "popular" kids!
I don't think this is, strictly speaking, a "demo". It sounds like an early mix of the tracks that would eventually form the finished version (of course, Ric's vocal is not the final version). I love hearing the rhythm guitar part in the chorus, it's SO low in the final mix. VERY interesting listening, thank you very much for posting it!!!
This song was in a little known movie named Times Square. If you ever get a chance and find the movie, get it!!! Awesome music. I have a dubbed copy I see on Ebay the VHS alone is 100 bucks...good luck on the dvd...You can actually see movie here on YT....
It's not really a demo but rather the monitor mix of Candy-O. It's actually out as a bootleg with all the other songs. So these are the same tracks, but we are getting to hear a different mix, probably prior to Elliot Easton's solos being laid down, and backing vocals. I love listening to these, since it shows you what was going on in the background on their songs that you don't usually hear because it's either turned down in the mix or altogether missing.
I'm three years older than you, sir, so I'm not exactly ready for the local nursing home just yet. Good idea to follow your cat's advice; cats are surprisingly smart and perceptive animals.
You've got a point there. I think I'll end this foolishness now by abiding by the old adage of not arguing with a fool, because people might not be able to tell the difference. We at least agree on one thing; the governor of Florida IS a fool.
you're right, this is pretty much the album mix, minus the guitar solo and final vocal. you can find it on a bootleg called 'monitor mixes'. good stuff.
can i touch you are you out of touch i guess i never noticed that much geranium lover i'm live on your wire come and take me who ever you are she's a lot like you the dangerous type she's a lot like you come on and hold me tight inside angel always upset keep on forgetting that we ever met can i bring you out in the light my curiosity's got me tonight the museum director's with their high shaking heads they kick white shadows until they play dead they want to crack your crossword smile can i take you out for a while
uh HUH. So it's URAnium lover. Always thought it was geranium lover. That doesn't make sense but I guess I never noticed that much. The keys on the chorus sound too much like a doorbell. People would have been getting up to answer the door in vain gazillions of times, had they released this one instead.
By the way, it's spelled "scammer", not "scamer", genius. No need to thank me, I'm here to help those less fortunate than me (in brains, looks, money, basic decency, ability to walk bipedally...).
