The way Ric Ocasic throws his guitar pic over His shoulder at the end ---like screw this audience Especially the jerk who yells out thank God its free at The very begining Great song!
@@okiebuzzj Well said! Working with the general public, I also concluded that a certain percentage of people are simply mutants. 👽 Extremely difficult to please, never satisfied and unnecessarily mean on a regular basis. Or perhaps that 🤡 was just cheap! 😁
I love the Cars and have from the beginning and I know many people comment on Ben's looks so this is nothing new but OMG...this is Ben at his maximum prime...31 years old and the most gorgeous man I have ever seen. No disrespect to his talent or what an incredible person he was but oh dear was he beautiful.
Now that we live in the days of over-produced, wireless, monitor in ear, lip-synched crapolla, it is refreshing to hear what a real band sounds like, tuning errors, harmony slips missed cues and all. This is what rock music is all about. You are not likely to see much of this outside of small clubs ever again. GREAT STUFF
That intro is so badass. Seriously this band had the greatest chemistry. Just look at these guys! Go find a live performance like this today. IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Wow! The syncopation in this performance is great. Easton's entrances and exits are featured along with The Cars band mates imploring him, and everyone else - "Don't cha stop!" It's seriously humorous to realize that it's all a series of starts and stops, and they had that live-wired.
One Of My Absolute Favorites. What I wouldn't give to go back in Time to 1978 when they First appeared and sit in the audience. very Talented Bunch of Musicians.
imho, Ric Ocasek is the brain of The Cars. Benjamin Orr (RIP), the face and voice. David Robinson and Greg Hawks are the backbone. And EE? Elliot Easton is the heart and soul of The Cars. he is monstrously talented, he can work a stage without stomping on any of his band mates and as you can see he can make rock and role faces with the best of them. The RRHOF finally got what Cars fans have known since the release of their first album. They are THE REAL DEAL!!
@johnisallin A few years back I saw the New Cars with Todd Rundgren fronting with Elliot Easton & Greg Hawks plus Kasim from Utopia on bass and Prairie Prince from the Tubes on drums. They played all the old favorites plus some new songs. Right in the beginning some dude yells "Thank God it's Elliot Easton!!!" and Elliot proceeded to demonstrate why he is probably the most underrated guitarist of all time... He had to be pushing 60, but he could still rip it up and hit all the great hooks.
Some of the best guitar work, and best all the way around. I saw them Live this tour . The opened up for the Doobie brothers. They should've closed also . The Cars blew them away .😎
Yeah, and I'll bet this same bloke has been teeling everyone that he was there for this concert. and loved it He did not recognize greatness until much later. Such a sad little heckler.
They can never be duplicated or assimilated in the slightest way without obvious detection. Which is why no one dares to even try. So unique they broke the mold. I thank god I was 12 when that first record came out...It was came from somewhere else, without being too weird for radio.
I first discovered the cars when I was 12/ 13 on a family trip to see relations in Vancouver back in 81/82 I was given a tape of them by the teenage son liked them ever since.
Andrew Trotter I agree. To the same extent I find myself scratching my head, wondering how the camera person COMPLETELY ignored David, and yet got a great close-up of the pattern on Ric's right thigh of his pant leg... Grossly unfair to David... It boggles the mind.
That's what I greatly prefer to read from a Cars fan. A lot of people out there are focused on just one member or another. The Cars have never been a band to air their laundry in public, but sadly, some so-called "fans" have made mountains out of molehills, to create ugly factoids. It has gotten under my skin enough that I've been researching pretty hard, and so far, I have found NO reputable source that says they were any more dysfunctional than ANY other band. The magic was in all 5 of them!
@ nigelxman,,not all us Brits hated the cars,,,I know loads of us that loved em,,and we still cover their tracks on our own gigs !!!!,,I did my own Backing track for Just what I needed !!
To be sure, back in "the Day," these guys were a relief from disco and even some of the lame-o-wavers. Yeah, they had the pop thing going full throttle, but they could keep it tight and drive hard.
@ladybluluv I think it is on either The Cars Unlocked - The Live Performances (with CD) The Cars Unlocked - The Live Performances (with CD) or The Cars Live - Musikladen 1979. I just bought them both from Amazon but I haven't watched them yet. I liked the Cars ever since the 1st time I heard Just What I Needed on the radio. Benny Elevenletters had one of the best voices in rock, plus he can play the bass too!
@Juetersonke When the Cars debuted the public in general did not know what to make of them and they were despised by the majority. Hard rock ruled the day with the likes of AC/DC. Punk was also coming out at this time and the Cars were neither. Personally I loved them right from the get go but I felt very alienated at my High School for admitting it.
I think Ben could have sang this one as well as Ric. I _don't_ often say that; I think they did a very good job of working out who would sing which song. I'm not one of those maniacs who think Ben shoud have sang everything, or the majority of songs, instead of Ric. (In fact, when I see people say "Ben sang most of their hits", I bring out the statistics, which show that statement couldn't be more wrong.) I just think this little throwaway tune could have been more fun with Ben on vocals. Enjoy the moment . . . Don't Cha Stop!
I actually heard a deejay mention recently that Drive was the only song Benjamin sang out of all the Cars music. Ridiculous since he was the one that sang not only the most successfully commercial song written by O'Casek (Drive) but the first song that led to the Cars becoming noticed and given an album deal. To those of us who remember and were working in the business at that time, Maxanne sent a tape around to the stations because she liked Benjamin and his voice...if not, it could well be The Cars might still be playing gigs like the Ground Round, we'll never know. I like Ric's quirky voice a lot but near the end he chose to sing the majority of the songs which meant good ones were only mediocre since the guy really is not a good vocalist and will never be as good as Benjamin. Just because you write a song doesn't mean you have to sing it...a good example of this is I Will Always Love You, written and sung by Dolly Parton but when Whitney did a cover on it, it took off to number one. Too bad no one explained this to Ric. Also, it has been said by all of the group in interviews that each member composed their own part of the song and each member did this brilliantly. In my opinion, Greg and Elliot are brilliant musicians. Interestingly, songs on the second album Benjamin was working on before his death are really good, even better than his first effort. Some of the solo efforts by O'Casek are good and he is a fabulous musician, but I don't think any one member was ever greater by himself than when the Cars were a group...they were one of the best groups ever.
There have always been haters and there will always be haters. They don't even have close to what it takes to do anything important but they always have something to say about it,human nature at its worst.
@PresidentGas1 they definetly were partially hard rock, especially there songs take what you want, bye bye love, candy-o, double trouble, your all ive got tonight and this tasty classic.
Definetly you have the right idea!! Cruiser, Bye Bye Love, Candy-O, Your'e All I've Got Tonight etc... are all great rock and rollers. I find myself writing you comments alot (since you post alot on Cars videos)/
Whatever type of music that you want to define this as. ? New Wave / Modern Rock/ Rock This band was different and they had their own style and were definitely unique. It is too bad that all of the innovative and creative structures of music that the bands like this created for the future of Rock Music all fell by the wayside and completely diminished and has presently disappeared completely unfortunately ROCK IS DEAD. In 2020,
Right in the beginning the dude yells "Thank God it's Elliot Easton!!!" He's got that right, Elliot Easton takes his guitar and kicks some serious ass.
