ALL I CAN REALLY SAY IS MOST EXCELLENT!!!! the Cars are back!!! one freakin great guitar band , love to hear Elliot Easton crank it up... can't wait......
The Cars have so many good songs. How can anyone not like this band. These guys are great musicians and I really like Ric's songwriting style. My all-time favorite band. I was 11 years old when Heartbeat City came out. Used to put the headphones on and play it over and over. Knew every song by heart. I cant wait for this album and I hope they put out another dvd sometime. I've pretty near worn the other 2 out.
I take it that Ric is going to sing all the Ben songs live like Let's Go and Bye Bye Love among others. Good for him. I've been a Cars fan since 1978 but I never saw them live back in the day. That's going to change real soon when they come to NYC in late May. Can't wait!!!
the first thing when i go to the show later this month is head to the merch table and pick up the disc...hopefully they will be selling autographed copys...can`t wait till the show! ....i wanna hear "Double Life" ....! thanks
@FloydFANdango ya from what it looks like, there not promoting whoever did the bass work as part of the band... in the music video of blue tip you only see the original four and on there wiki it doesnt say theres any new members... im so stoked they came back... all these tracks sound amazing!
I don't think Rick and the boys have any intention of ever trying to replace Ben. Rick is still fully capable of great writing and great singing - Long live the CARS!
@oingofan That is a great thought, That song or Lets Go would be appropriate. But NO they opened with Let the Good Times Roll. Also appropriate since that is probably one of their signature songs. I know i was 17 when that album came out in 1978 and Good Times Roll was the first Cars song i ever heard.
this song very similar to Down Boys from Panorama I feel that Ric just opened the closet and pick up old songs they never recorded, good formula just like The cars before Shke it up, I like it! but I cannot stp thinking bout Ben he was the one, sorry, I miss him so much.
I envy all you concert goers. I will not be so lucky. That being the case I have ordered the deluxe version of the new album from best buy and am waiting anxiously for it to arrive. I now have the opportunity to play some of the new songs on you tube including the rest of "Free" but I am going to resist. I will wait and unwrap, check out lyrics hopefully, and enjoy it in it's entirety on my stereo. CMON UPS!
The Cars are back Imagine that They sure are sounding great Life is grand What a band They're number one I rate ...............Ok, I tried! I'm looking forward to seeing the tour if it happens.
Wow! I'm at a loss for words for just how awesome this sounds! Seriously: There isn't much to be happy about these days if you ask me..The world is a mess. Music has left me feeling totally DEAD and hopeless inside for the past 10 or more years. This song seriously kicks ass! It's like the Cars came in with a defibrillator and SHOCKED me back to life! Thank GOD for GREAT BANDS and GREAT MUSIC! Thank you Ric for getting the boys back together. Thanks for doing this! It's a great gift, sincerely.
Ben Orr's already missing, though. I recently read a Rolling Stone interview conducted by David Fricke to Ric Ocasek and overall Ric said that it feels really empty to not have Ben's presence around. Also, talking on the subject of touring, from what I perceived, they're not gonna go on tour. They might do some exclusive shows (on late night shows, others) and the occasional tribute and one-offs, but it's gonna be difficult. We all hope they do.
@80dKeys Yes, Ben is irreplaceable, and he was their friend, that's why the band isn't even considering a replacement. Yes, he shared lead vocals, but let's not forget who wrote all the songs that he sang. Just sayin'. All said, I am happy to see them back.
To all Elliot Easton fans: Listen- try not fret over the lack of Easton solos! I'm a fan myself and LOVE his playing as well. You must consider something though: Ric -out of th blue- unexpectedly had called they guys after what? 23 years! Ric planned this material on his own, so there was probably no time for collaboration with the others. But please-give them time! They said that they would possibly be doing future albums as well, thus, more creative imput from the others; including Elliot!

Like the rest of you Cars fans, I'm doing a bit of hand-wringing about the lack of guitar solos from Elliot on the three cuts that have been released to the public. But I'll wait until the CD is released and trust that Elliot kicks out some good licks. The other concern that I have is that the three songs I've heard are all up-tempo, high-energy songs. I hope there's at least one ballad on Move Like This that is in the same vein as Ric's The Way You Look Tonight or Fine Line from Door to Door.
@grgoldner Yup, the album is quite unimpressive, except that general public disagreed to the point of having this album debut at #2 on the Billboard charts. Ric O solo albums don't have 3 of the surviving member of The Cars on it either.
@tommybass40 No dude i seen them last night. If Ben sang Lets Go it is the ONLY Song they sang the Ben sang. They played 6 of the 9 songs off their first album but Bye Bye Love was not one of them the others were Dont Cha Stop and All Mixed Up. It blew me away when i heard Moving in Stereo and not All Mixed Up together just wasnt right. BUT it was awesome none the less. I also have been huge fan since 1978 when i was 17 so this is one band that i grew up with & have many memories of their music.
Well you knew Ric was gonna produce this well...it sounded like they stayed true to the cars sound but, made it more modern...it was nice...a hell of a lot better than MOST older bands that come back. but, yes...my first thoughts on hearing the two I've heard so far is that the classic guitar sound is not there...maybe on other tracks?
I always liked Ric's vocals better than Ben's, but I loved Ben's too. I know Ben was the "better" singer, but it was always Ric's trippy vocal style that got to me. We all miss Ben. Damned pancreatic cancer.
@oingofan They did tend to open with Hello Again on the last 2 tours. Can't wait until the 20th of this month. Gonna be the culmination of a 24 year wait, fully expecting this to never happen. How many times did Ric say he just wasn't interested, and double that for David. My birthday was a couple of weeks ago, and I'm just going to have to buy myself a late birthday gift, hehe.
wow...what an incredibly GREAT song from a band that was dead and gone 20 years ago....wow...amazingly hot with a beat like the good ole days. im rather very surprized at this new song...actually there a huge wave of new songs and artist hitting the airwaves..it reminds me of the early 70's..when a shitload of new people landed here and wowed us all...
@webnewsjax is this really alternative music. Should we really be trying rejuvenate the good new wave music of the 80's and calling it such. Just a posing question! What do you think?
@relztrah You're living under a rock then =] Album Move Like This is scheduled for release May 10 2011 with all members except the original bassist and lead vocalist due to him being not alive anymore.
I think Elliot's input to solos has been limited from the fact that their sound is more straightforward now rather than to wander around on the finished material. I'm not a fan of it because that's what made The Cars so unique and Elliot's solos have been so integral to their sound (stripped-down songs like "Just what I needed" are a great example of this). Hopefully there will be songs with solos, but I think they're givin' (or teasin') us a VERY slight taste of what's to come...or not.
The sound is great but its also sad cuz the album is def gonna miss Ben Orrs vocals.Even Ric admits that but at least everyone else is the so its not just the lead singer and replacement musicians bur GOD what a great reunion this woulda been with Ben!But its still great to hear them and it sounds great
OK folks, let's all calm down. Along with millions of fiftysomething Cars fans I am so excited about a possible reunion that I'm nearly wetting my pants. (Actually, at my age that happens sometimes without excitement...but I digress.) But all I've heard so far is three short clips on their Facebook page and no confirmed announcement of a reunion album or tour. Lots of rumors, but nothing for certain.
@gabandy Yes, THE MOST underrated band in rock history. Hopefully they will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at some point. I like the new songs, but it's going to be hard to follow the great music they made in the 80's.
@webnewsjax Well, they werent always alternative rock. They used to be a hard rock/art rock/poprock (lol, shows how diverse they were) band. I guess ric likes to stay modern, because i'll be the first to admit a few of there new singles suck! I doubt will be seeing a rock in roll revival from them, but this song aint bad, would it hurt to add a solo though. who knows, maybe this will have a social effect on music and maybe we wont see as many shitty cookie cutter artists??
When bands this classic and old can make a comeback and sound great if not better than before it really makes you think about how most modern music is just such SHIT.
I think of the New cars that I went to see,and its so overly clear how only the original can does the job right. the new cars were good musicians but didnt have the charisma.
This is nothing more than a Ric O solo album and is the only reason he agreed to record as a member of The Cars. I am not impressed at all with the songs from the new album.
I dig the cars but, unfortunately, Free & Sad Song are pretty much the only tracks worth spinning. The rest of the album is mediocre & pretty hokey. Blue Tip is cornball galore...sounds like a Heartbeat City throw away.
