Ben is an excellent front man lead singer. He should have been lead on at least 90% of all the Cars songs. He is a great singer and the looks don't hurt either.

This has got to be my favorite performance. Everything is spot on. Ric’s lyrics, Greg’s keys, David’s drums, and Elliot-Elliot is always fantastic but this is a whole different sound. I agree with everyone who said Benjamin’s energy was so good. He never looked or sounded any better than he did than in those 5 minutes and 18 seconds. Every time I watch this, it leaves me full of shine 🤍
God wanted his angel back but oh he took Ben too soon from us! I know Ric wrote all the songs and I love his quirky voice but I really wish he would have let Ben sing more songs...such an incredible voice. Every one of the members extremely talented. I feel so lucky to have been a teenager in the early 80s with so much great music everywhere. I wore out their first album listening to it every waking moment..just blown away by them. RIP Ben and Rick..you were the founders of one hell of a band.
Personally, I think this is Ben's greatest moment performing a LIVE song... This gives me goosebumps each and every time I watch/listen to it... What a Voice !!!
I agree. This live version is beyond amazing. Ben's vocals are legendary. I am very fortunate that I got to see them live on a number of occasions. Sure wish Ben were still here with us. He was a huge talent.
What a fantastic band. Complete talent all the way around. No light-weights here. You can tell a lot from a live performance, you can hear how tight they are throughout. Back when singers could sing, and musicians could play.

A great Un-Cars song! Everything You Say (bold country-western sound and feel) where David's duple meter drumming is almost as fast as lightning and the minor chords (brings Ghost Riders in the Sky by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson to mind) and Orr's voice is exquisite. Everything You Say, like Drive, is one of the rarer more exquisite, serious, beautiful, mature non-comical Cars songs. The Cars came out in 1978. Ric and Ben were both over 30 even then, old farts. Ben did still look hot then and Ric looked like a tall, dark thin monkey-eared guy like Abraham Lincoln. Whenever I hear them playing more typical Cars songs, like My Best Friend's Girl and Shake It Up, they sound to me like a teenage boy band. They were rather mature to be making such high school music. Easton was the youngest Car at age 25 then. Ric was pushing mid-30's in 1978. I first heard of The Cars in 1981, then I was 17, to quote Ben Orr from Let's Go, and the first Cars tune I remember hearing on the radio was Shake It Up in early 1982 the year I graduated from HS. Then I thought they were a teenage band as they sounded so young. I compare them with The Police, Devo, Men at Work, Toto, The Human League, Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode and Level 42 notwithstanding that some of these bands were not all-male. The New Wave camp. I am the Class of the '82. 1980's MTV City for me. Ah, memories and IBM Personal Computers with MS-DOS. Back when I first became aware of The Cars in the early '80's, I had no idea how old they were even then. They sounded like new-wave greasy carnival kidstuff to me. My mother bought The Cars greatest hits cassette of the Cars in 1985 and I got hooked on them more seriously since about 1987 when the guys were playing this same cassette at work. In 1987, I bought The Cars new Door to Door cassette but didn't think much of that music then except for one particular number on that album, Everything You Say.
@Tullguy..... Not sure what your deal is - This band was dead by 87, the keyboards suck, etc. Are we having a bad day? You are entitled to your opinion, no matter how sour that may be. But I have to question your music knowledge and experience. I can tell you that the Cars are one of the most musically knowledgable and technically adept bands that have ever graced a Rock N Roll stage. The keyboards compliment this song extremely well, in all facets of the structure of the song. They build up the song in the intro, they provide solid accompaniment throughout the verses and chorus, and they set up the tension for other instruments, vocals etc. The guitar work is typical Elliot Easton - absolutely killer hooks with strong build up and release. Solid drumming to lay the base..... but the keys float through all of it. Maybe give it another listen.... and for Heaven's sake cheer up a bit. Oh....I almost forgot... The vocals are among the finest ever recorded by any front man in th ebusiness. Ever. Ben Orr had a brilliant gift, and this song showcases it so nicely.

It sounds like Easton is twanging a Gretsch guitar with vibrato bar. How ghostly, low, dark, spooky and cowboy like. A Gretsch is always so mesmerizing when played as a melody line in the bass register. Beautiful, chilling, dark and mysterious like the Gretsch that Mike Campbell grabs in the Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers video of "You Got Lucky".
I think the studio version was Ben's finest moment as a singer, on any Cars album. It makes me tear up a little. I wish they'd released it as a single instead of "Strap Me In". Unfortunately, a live version cannot compete with the record, because the record features many multitracked vocals, mostly from Benjamin, backing up and harmonizing with himself! But the playing is great. Kind of a trip to see Ric Ocasek strumming an acoustic guitar onstage! Thanks again for all these '87 clips!
Aside from bens amazing vocals as usual David keeping that tempo throughout was beyond great and really made this one of their most outstanding performances.

The speed of David Robinson´s compaz on drums is incredible and he maintains that speed as well as Ric´s guitars and especially Elliot´s. Also on the bass, Ben keeps the incredible rhythm, although the audio of the best, you can clearly appreciate the quality of the band and eachone of them. Never known for energetic live performances, this is probably the most energetic song I have ever seen them perform. They seem to be into this one for some reason as usually they are pretty stoic behind their microphones. Maybe it is because Ben Orr is singing and not Ric Ocasek? At the end you see Ric doing a (near) split for some reason.
They definitely did put on energetic live performances back in their early days, with the exception of Ric, who never moved much and almost always appeared deadpan. That was part of his image.
