I’m 59 years old and I’ve been listening to the Cars forever but why do I want to rip this guys clothes off and eat him alive is something crazy and beyond me!!! 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
My favourite live version of my favourite Cars song. There’s a great energy going on here, the band are all animated. Ben’s vocal is incredible. And that growl ……..💙
Idk who's better lead vocals Ben or Ric and how did they decide who would do lead vocals on a song 🤔 Anyways they did it awesome their whole career as the Cars from Boston Mass 👍🏼
I couldn't agree with you more. Benjamin really had it all. He was cool, he had charm, good looks, talent and he was an awesome singer. makes me miss him even more.
Ben Orr was incredible. He and Ocasek complimented each other which made the Cars so unique. Each had their own style and both were fantastic. As Benny said, check out the video for Enerything You Say and you will see how incredible Orr's voice was. The acoustics and his vocals are insanely good in that video...
Benjamin Orr's voice is unlike anyone else. Deep baritone with a falsetto range. Every note is perfect. Delivery and tempo par none. R.I.P. beautiful Benjamin.
RIP querido Benjamin.
I have a comment.. I keep hitting repeat!! This live performance of The Cars , with Ben Orr thumping his bass guitar as none other, while singing lead..Tis MINDBLOWING PERFORMANCE of Cruiser XOXOXO Foot stomping.. Body shakin .Dancing til u fall down to BEN ORR .. ♥♥
This is my favorite recorded live performance of this song. Ben looks and sounds amazing! and the band is so tight... I'm reminded, too, how much Elliot's guitar and Greg's keys are hallmarks of the Cars' sound. We miss you guys! RIP, Ben and Ric. What a unique and gifted group of musicians. I never tire of listening to The Cars, the first band I fell in love with when they debuted in the late '70s.
Different hair color, different clothes and different places yet always the same gorgeous face, beautiful voice and talented bass playing. xoxo Benjamin
Thee multi talented Benjamin Orr. Almost a quarter of a century later, the world still tunes in, watches and listens. That's speaks volumes. And well deserved
Love, Love this song! Just like Gregg Hawkes said in his acceptance speech at the Rock and roll hall of fame, without Ben and his talent and rockstar good looks they wouldn't be there!
Wow, Benjamin's voice was incredible. This song is one of the most beautiful songs of The Cars. Rest in peace gorgeous Benjamin and Ric. You'll never be forgotten.
This version is magical. It’s from 1982. It sounds like it was just recorded. An amazingly talented band. Glad at Ric got to see them get into the HOF. So long overdue.
monorailred1 I disagree. True cars fans always give greg lots of credit. I may have not even got into the cars without the keyboard. I’m a new waver and they wouldn’t have crossed into new wave without greg.
Thing you have to love about the cars is they were in their mid -thirties by the time they hitt. At an age when others fall out of the Game they were making some of the most important cutting edge music of their day.
Sensational song! Brutal performance of band and especial Benjamin Orr!!! This band was one the best on 80 years in your unique style!!! I love it 👊🏻🔥🔥🔥
That is so incredibly, insanely cool! I never known anyone to describe Ben as anything but a nice guy with a big heart. Never read a critical word about him as a person. Elliot was an early idol of mine. I think he had an edge, in their early days, not always the sweetest guy, but nowadays he seems to really respect and care about the fans and the band's incredibly legacy. Ben & Elliot playing side by side, up front, is an iconic image for Cars fans.
Thats exactly what i said, hes a true professional a real showman he never steps on any toes. When its elliots time , he steps back into the darkness n then he gracefully emerges back . I noticed that a long time ago. He was a wonderful man.
What a voice, what a sound, wow, Benjamin is really something special. And the "other four" are, of course, fantastic. Rest in peace our unforgettable Benjamin.
Definitely! They should have been inducted before the split up, they made an incredible contribution to music , in those short 10 yrs. ,Its so sad that Benjamin wasnt there to receive it.
@@dianegargano175 I agree. I did read, however, that Benjamin attended the opening of the RRHOF, so technically, he was "in" the HOF before the band was. ^_^
Might be the best live performance video of them I have seen. Everybody doing their thing; Ben's perfect vocal and driving bass, Elliot hammering away, Hawkes steering them home with a massive synth sound, Robinson adding the perfect backbeat. And Ric alone on the left in perfect rhythm, loving his band, because they sounded just the way he had always imagined.
It was Ric AND Ben's band, co-founded, though Ric the egomaniac succeeded in marginalizing & basically erasing Ben from public knowledge. I have read MANY comments in the last months from people who even had Cars albums back in the day & didn't know Ben sang lead on their best songs.
@@joan-annebross9217 Not dissing Ben by any means. Best vocalist of that era. He gave The Cars a distinctive sound like no one else had. But Ric clearly led the band, wrote the songs and was almost always the one doing the talking. But you take any of the five of them out of the equation and its not the same. "Move Like This" was a very good album but Ben was clearly missed. I don't think there was a major beef between them. Ben was more laid back. A totally decent, unassuming guy.
@@TheBent139 Hi. I don't have time now, but there was indeed a major beef between them. Ric engineered his being the only face & voice bcs he was an egomaniac. I see so many commenting that they never knew Ben was singing all those songs. Stunning. More later...hope you had a nice Christmas, if that applies.
"You dont easily get amused....do ya?" Never has a shoulder shake been so epic. The 1981 Cruiser performance on the Tom Snyder show was epic! He was really animated on that one. Ben Orr forever.
My absolute favourite Cars performance. The entire band really got behind this one! Love the Cars, my only sadness is I never got to see them perform live. They were all without exception, amazing musicians x
@@julenepegher6999 This is an example of Ben at his absolute best. The whole band is absolutely on fire. Side note: I like the scar next to Ben's mouth in the close -ups. Could he be any hotter?
Jackie Beals I hear ya, it don’t take much, for example did you ever see Touch and go or gimme some slack at shout factory music? Ben is standing in back ground playing in his white shoes don’t know what it is him in those white shoes but it does it for me, simple as that. Check it out.
IF The Cars recorded this song in the studio the exact same way it was performed in this video you would have absolute perfection! One of the most underrated songs of all time.....PERIOD!!!
This version just blows all others away. MUCH more exciting than the Live in Houston 1984-85 version. How many of you noticed the intense growl around 3:35? . . . and some people say the Cars were boring onstage. Well, some people are insane!
Was just thinking the exact same thing. They were at the top of their game here and exciting like a rock band. The later tours were pretty, shall we say, static.
What a voice explosion at 3:40. Simple, unbelievable with what passion Benjamin sang. The whole band was unique. I had a terrible car accident on Benjamin's birthday, but in 1974. That I survived this was a miracle, I was lucky enough to continue to live and get to know this wonderful band. RIP Benjamin
WOW! What a great band, what a great version of Cruiser! Finally in the Rock Hall of Fame for 2018. Every single band member is truly amazing. Amazing musicians! Benjamin's incredible voice lives on. RIP Benjamin. Wish you were here. love.
The best damn live song The Cars did. Every time it rocks. Always loved these guys, and started finally learning to play some of their stuff. RIP Ben Orr, there has never been in my opinion a more rock and roll unique voice.
I just commented on Facebook that each generation seems to think the music of their youth was the best. But like most people here I rarely turn on the radio anymore. I know there is art and music being played there but I just cannot relate. I thank a friend so long ago who introduced me to The Cars back in 1978, It took me a little while to get the hang of their music. I dare say that I don't go more than a few days without hearing a great tune by this great band. Yes Ben was underrated as a vocalist and as a bass player. You can tell that he put a lot of thought into his bass notes. He was a very active bass player. About as active as another one of my all-time great bass players; John McVie. I think that The Cars music is timeless and just as relevant today as it was in the late 1970's to the late 1980's.
"Yes Ben was underrated as a vocalist and as a bass player. " a fact which could have been eradicated with occasional and much more regular, accolades put out there by the 'leader of the band'. Yes, I have heard Ric say - after his death - Ben Orr was "phenomenal". Well, buddy; perhaps you should have given MORE credit where credit was due, when you had the opportunity and when that person was alive! Perhaps you should have given him more prominence in those gimmicky videos you produced which ALWAYS featured you. So, you were the song-writer. Newsflash, you wouldn't have made it to where you were w/o Benjamin Orr; much less the masterful contributions of Elliot, David and Greg; all brilliantly talented musicians, who fleshed out your songs. If Ben Orr was not given the recognition in the music industry deserved, it was due to the silence fr the one person who could have raised him up. The first two Cars albums were the best. After that, you sold out and kept putting out insipid pop poo-poo. It sucked the passion out of the boys, who were much tougher rockers, suddenly finding themselves reined into toned- down mediocrity. There was a rally with 86's "Door To Door" which included the brilliant & somehow poignant "Everything You Say" and the hard driving rock metal "Double-Trouble", but by then you'd lost your charter member fans. They weren't listening anymore. Take this as one person's observations and opinions who knows a little bit about psycho-social dynamics and rock star ego.
moodylicious imhop one could say all of The Cars albums were insipid pop crap. (I listen to jazz and classical) This was a great band because of their unique identity *they all crafted,* but Ric's songs *were* the multi stage rocket. Heartbeat City to this day is amazing to listen to (especially with head phones) and was the point at which The Cars turned their "insipid pop rock" into high art. *The whole record is consistently good, well crafted, and one of those moments in rock when a band strives for perfection in what they uniquely do, and attains it.* This was allowed to happen in the 80's, why we have masterpieces like Synchronicity, Brothers In Arms, Purple Rain, The Fixx's Reach The Beach, Born In The USA, and a number of other "pinnacle" 80s pop masterpieces. Sorry but your cynical perspective doesn't hold water when one simply takes a listen to Heartbeat City which is rounded out with songs like Drive and wrapped up with the atmospheric Heart Beat City. (especially considering the artless cookie cutter shit passing for pop today) Your pooing on the timeless masterpiece Hearbeat City just doesn't work. Ben was abused by Ric? I seriously doubt it, as Ric said, he knew some of the songs he wrote were going strait to Ben. Of course Ric had high expectations and a sense of excited anticipation when taking a song to Ben, why? because *Ben stepped up to the plate and knocked those songs out of the park.* To suggest there wasn't mutual admiration and respect in this band *is just silly.* Don Henley was really on to something when he appropriately named his 1984 masterpiece "Building The Perfect Beast", that's what bands were striving for in the 80s, let's celebrate that unique time in pop music, it's not going to be repeated.
Ditto, class of 81. The Shake It Up album blasting away on my Radio Shack 8-track tape car stereo in my Datsun B210. Now currently in 2022, the CD is in my 6 disk CD player in my Honda CRV. Never gets old.
