That's exactly what they did. The opening notes immediately reminded me of their first album, yet cleverly and carefully updated for the 21st century. Very glad Ric was inspired to re-join the group. I think the success they had with Todd Rundgren in the mid-2000's was very inspiring to him, and this fresh, new (in 2011) classic album was the result. It's as great as any of from the original run. One great song after another. It's too bad classic radio stations only play 'Just What I Needed' and 'My Beast Friend's Girl'. Other groups have the same problem. With the Stones it's 'Off of My Cloud' and 'Satisfaction'.

@turkey3gwiddle
@turkey3gwiddle 7 лет назад
The trouble with radio stations playing this song is that The Cars are only played on classic rock stations, and this is not classic rock since it is new. It's also not played on modern rock stations because they tend to lean toward more modern-sounding rock (and this sounds like the 80s), and The Cars are typically not played on any modern rock stations. As for pop stations, The Cars have been characterized as a pop band before, but they're not pop pop enough to be played on those stations. So the end result unfortunately is no one knows this wonderful song.

I am just glad they reunited one last time for the fans when they said back in 1988 that it was over for good. This was their only single from the album and it performed respectably for a 80s band coming back after 24 years - it peaked at #33 on Billboard's Rock Chart. The album sales peaked at #7 on the overall billboard top 200, which actually is not bad at all. They managed to recreate the old sound without Ben Orr to sing half the songs or play bass (the keyboardist filled in on bass along with Jacknife Lee who also produced half the songs - including this one).

I don't think they are doing another album. While Ric Ocasek and the others were willing to do it for the fans (they originally planned to release the songs online only as a "one off" effort) they really don't like touring at all - never did. The 11 show tour was a small effort to promote the album, ending with Lapoloza (a huge show they played at to end the tour). I think this is for the fans and that is it - a nice effort fans liked (and it sold pretty well to boot) but that is all it is - there is no long term strategy to continue. Ric is highly successful as a songwriter for others and a producer and he will probably just continue to do that - behind the scenes.

For everyone that feels bad they didn't know about this song or the 2011 album 'Move Like This', it got almost no promotion. I happened to hear The Cars were going to be on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and saw the performance on his show. But NO air play otherwise on classic rock stations, nothing. Just the usual 'My Best Friend's Girl' and a couple of others usually played to this day. This album may be the best one since 1979's Candy-O, seemingly following in it's classic footsteps. The sound and lyrics were updated for the 21st century, but stayed true to their roots.

The Cars are so brilliant that they make todays horrible untalented recycled music sound even more horrible. It's becuse The Cars are extremely talented and they know how to make good music. A lot of the newer so-called bands don't know how to make good music, so they just recycle old stuff and create their own lyrics. That's why The Cars know what good music is!! You can't help but love this song. It is so vintage Cars sound. I can remember when the band unofficially broke up around 1989 and there were occasional hints of a reunion. Then when Ben Orr died in 2000, Greg Hawkes said there will never ever be a reunion of the Cars in this lifetime because it just can't be the Cars without Ben Orr. I guess that was an easy statement to make when they still had good money to live off of. But, I think they were all realizing there was money to be made which is no surprise that they decided to record Move Like This. At least they did an outstanding job unlike other bands that have come out of retirement to record an album that is complete garbage. Like ELO did when they decided to record Zoom after a 15 year hiatus. It was complete garbage and an insult to their former work. Thankfully, Jeff Lynne got his act together and released two more albums as ELO which kind of redeemed the band's name.
