The Case for Christ? (Atheist Responds)

Today, we're looking at some of the story of Lee Strobel, alleged ex-atheist who found Jesus through hardcore investigative research into the Bible. Naturally, I find some minor problems in his story and his research, plus some underhanded tactics he uses to avoid major issues with his explanations. This is part one of a two part series. #apologist #skeptic #religion #christianity #islam

Every single apologist claims to have been an atheist, wallowing in sin before finding Jesus. But they don't seem to understand what an atheist is.

"I used to be an angry, drunken atheist. Now I'm a Christian who's passive aggressive towards non-believers, and high on Jesus! Hallelujah!" Lee Strobel is the most credulous "skeptic" I've ever seen.

The irony of opening his talk telling us that he needed two separate credible sources for everything when we have a bunch of anonymous accounts which both copy and also contradict each other... Priceless.

Strobel is SUCH a skeptic that he didn’t interview a SINGLE person on the other side of the Christian arguments, not a single scientist, atheist, biblical scholar. He is SUCH a legal expert he thinks making a “case” for religious beliefs means only having one side of a trial present and leaving the other side out entirely. He is SUCH a great journalist that he only interviewed evangelical Christian apologists to “investigate” the facts around Christianity. And gave absolutely no pushback.

Epicurus was a hedonist. He was just the best kind. It and stoicism have a lot of overlap, sometimes to their dismay. The problem I have with stoicism is its emphasis on virtue, because I view "virtue" as being only one person's view of another, not anything objective. While I am a deontologist who believes that morality is the set of obligations we place on each other, I do not exist merely to make others happy. I choose to make them happy when it makes me happy to do so, or when I determine that I will regret not making them happy.

Evidence he's a liar: His "if there is no god" speech (4:00). No atheist would ask himself that. He would ask "If there is a god, then?" An atheist thinking of becoming a believer would examine the consequences of that change: If there is a god....then, etc. Furthermore, he reasons that if there is no god then rationally, I should be a heathen. Yet ANOTHER question which would never occur to an adult atheist -- WAS HE a heathen up to that point?

Lee Strobel was never an atheist. He began as an agnostic until he read the Bible which he found compelling and convinced him to become a Christian apologist. To be an atheist you must be able to recognize biblical fallacies and contradictions in plagiarized and repurposed Bible stories such as Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, The Tower of Babel and the virgin birth of a godman named Yeshua/Jesus who allegedly died and rose up to his heavenly kingdom in the clouds. Lee has never seen any of the storybook characters such as Yahweh/Jehovah/ Elohim or his son Yeshua/Jesus which he has devoted his life to defending using the same words as evidence that he read in the book.

What's wrong with being a drunk junkie who destroys his own property, career, and family? If we have incentive to NOT be that guy based here in the real world, then "I guess it's okay since there's no god to burn me for it" is pretty fucking irrelevant, isn't it? I'm not that guy; I've never been drunk, I have a good job, I've been married over 30 years, and my daughter has never been scared to see me coming. And that's because I have plenty of reasons to not be that guy, and I didn't need a god who's threatening to burn me for it. (Though in christianity at least, that's not what god burns you for, despite any claims to the contrary. I can do ALL of those things and go on to eternal bliss, per them, as long as I say repent and love Jesus.) If you ARE that guy, and you don't want to be, then get help. It's frightfully difficult sometimes in our society, especially with such a huge social stigma against getting any sort of mental health assistance. I have navigated the system before, and there are wait times, low monetary assistance, and overworked professionals throughout the system. But there are people and organizations willing to help you without demanding that you defer to a higher power.

@arlenemay7600 I have two words to counter your lack of understanding about why non-believers “go on about it.” : Street Preachers. You personally, may not try to convince us. However, most of Christianity believes that it is their business to mind everyone else’s business. They believe that their job IS to convince the heathens, the sinners and the nonbelievers to follow Jesus. And in their efforts to accomplish their goals, they pack up loudspeakers and microphones into their cars and transport their equipment to other people’s neighborhoods to preach the gospel to people who aren’t really interested in hearing their amplified blatherings. They show up to local LGBTQ+ Pride events and shout their nonsense about how gay people are all going to hell. One might ask, “What’s wrong with that? We’re saving souls!” To which I would respond, “Did you happen to notice that the LGBTQ+ Pride Parade ISN’T routed in front of your church? Or your house? So why did you leave your safe neighborhood to invade someone else’s safe neighborhood so that you could spread your hatred?” Why does the Christ-fascist Moms for Liberty organization invade school boards to ban books? Why do conservative think tanks like The Heritage Foundation, advocate for “school choice” that forces non-Christian taxpayers to support Christian schools at the expense of public school funding? Why does the U.S. Supreme Court continue to uphold blatant discrimination as “religious freedom?” That’s why people who don’t believe in your god, go on about it. Hope that helps.

Just want to say that there's no logical way that God doesn't exist. You can't get existence from nothing. There's no possible way that an eternal creator doesn't exist. Time is eternal, space is eternal, God is eternal. God loves you man.

I don't know of any cosmological model that proposes that we got something from nothing.

I don't buy the statement that you can't get existence from nothing because you end up with infinite recursion when you apply that same thing to god, which is a lot more complex than the universe around us god isn't real

If God exists and *designed* Man, "in His image", why have us humans got vestigial tails? Personally, if you think a *mind* (which is *no matter* ) created all the *matter* of the Cosmos you are not thinking logically.

Funny thing is only theist claim from nothing. Science say's no such thing and being atheist has nothing to do with it. The god claim with no evidence is god created from nothing just magic.

There is no logical contradiction in God's non-existence.
