Head Grappling Coach, Neil Melanson gives his advice on sequences.
Ground fighting involves taking advantage of sequences. In this sequence, you will learn the importance of controlling the bottom leg of an opponent’s half-guard and how to counter an opponent’s most common tool-the underhook-with a modified whizzer pass and anaconda choke finish.

Hey coach Neil , great detail on the finish of the anaconda! It took me ten years of failed anacondas to realize I needed to adjust my elbow position. Your the first person have seen address this, bravo. Keep the good work up 👍

excellent, the only issue is getting that leg out to walk around, that is a fight, but with hand on their face with 1/4 nelson, you have the time so all is good;.
@AltonCrooks

@drewhancock7099

Hey Neil, thanks for all the awesome vids. One question, I’ve tried a few of these moves from half-Guard but opponents always keep my legs trapped making it hard to complete the transition from HG to complete the rest of the sequence (to quarter Nelson and choke)
@tamegomait
@tamegomait 6 лет назад

@TheDirtyyoungman1

What if he keeps the hook on your leg when you try to stand and slide by? Can you still do it and keep the leg hooked?
@MikeLibbie
@MikeLibbie 7 лет назад
I agree. The half guard player won't let that leg loose. A guy at Marcelo's school dives over on his head, which makes it easier to get the leg out. He doesn't go around, he goes over and uses his head to hold as a post. Bernardo Faria made a post on his blog just a few days ago. I really appreciate this guy's attention to controlling the leg of the opponent. Then that whizzer usage and thumping the head! Maybe not so good for sparring, but good for the parking lot.
@BruceRogersHamchuc
@BruceRogersHamchuc 7 лет назад
I have the same issue. if you have the weight on their face and 1/4 nelson, they aren't getting out and you have the time to fight that leg out.
@f_alves
@f_alves 7 лет назад
Mike and Bruce, I really undestand your concerns but this movements runs really fast. If the on the bottom wast his time fighting with the legs there's no way out to just release the pressure on it... trust me, you wouldn't been stacked by someone like Neil (weight and size).... But if you figure it out any technique that keeps the guy on top position even for recover the guard, let us know. Oss.

It is like a knee slide. By standing you free your knee to turn it in and slide. Look up knee slide to understand how that works (in the event you do not)
