The Catholic Church is the largest non-governmental landowner in the world. A new initiative is helping faith-based organizations manage their properties. The Church Properties Initiative led by the University of Notre Dame is studying the challenges and opportunities the Church faces with its properties. The aim is to assist the Church and other religious organizations in using their property and resources effectively. Program director of the Church Properties Initiative, David Murphy, joins to tell us how and why this program began. Murphy explains what challenges owning property presents to Church officials. In February, there will be a conference in Rome on Church real estate. The program director shares what the response has been like so far and what he hopes the conference will accomplish.
