Im glad to hear how powerful they are. I just finished refoaming a pair my neighbor gave me and I cant wait to hear them. I had some hedu321 in early 80s's and loved them.

I bought a pair of D5's brand new back in 1984. They were great speakers. Played loud, hit hard and were fun. Not the most accurate sounding but they were great performers for the money. I paid $600 per pair Canadian for them in 1984. As to playing loud, yeah I caused the circuit breaker to trip many times when playing rock music very loud.😂

I have the 5's and bought the 9's 5 years later. I'm the original owner. I have the original pamphlet of all the d series. 9's are 6 ohm. I've had them for 40 years with PLENTY of use and still going strong! The 5's will need surrounds soon but the 9's still seem okay - but probably will replace all 4 at the same time. Great video! I agree with everything you said. I still the the d series is still their best though.

It's hard to say anything bad about the D-9. I have found that anyone who does has never owned a pair. Anyone who has owned them either still has them to this day like you, or wishes they never sold them. They keep creeping up in price because there just isn't anything as good out there today at a reasonable price point. Thanks for watching.

@@brentb5303 I would put them up against any speaker made today - in the same price range. BUT!! - now they are made in China.Not as good by any means. I still have my original ones! Time to refoam !!!

Just picked up a pair of these yesterday. My first CWs. Haven’t listened to them yet, looking forward to it!

I can't imagine you not being impressed with them in one or more ways. The tweeter is probably the best one they ever used and the 12's pound out the bass.

2001 Monolithic Nice! My sister in law picked them up for me yesterday. We’re about two hours apart, so I’ll have to wait a bit. I got a pair of those (cosmetically “decent”, as described by my brother) a fairly entry level but aesthetically cool Technics five CD changer and an 80’s vintage HK receiver for...$50 😬

@@ryancrouse5790 Cosmetically mine ain't no prize but you forget all about that real quick when you hear them. That's a nice pick up at $50.

2001 Monolithic They’ll likely end up as my workshop/garage speakers since I have my Wharfy W90s in the living room and I don’t see my wife loving the size and look of these CWs in the bedroom. My brother is going to test drive them while he has them. He’s slowly putting together his first system. I told him he could test them against his Advent Loudspeakers and pick the ones he liked the most. Win win either way!

I have had the D2, D3, AT-12, and the mighty DX9 and I would say may favorite of the bunch was the D3. The cabinets on the DX9 were poorly glued together and started rattling and falling apart. I did like the looks of the AT-12, but the tweeter sucked and air leaked around the plasticy knobs. The D series were built better IMHO.

They are a speaker that make an impression. I think my intrest in this old gear is the nostalgic feeling you get listening to music from the time period. The bass that an old pair of Cerwin Vega's produce is enviable yesteryear and honestly today. A real treat to own for a reasonable price. Thanks for watching

Are these for sale .? These are some the best i have heard. I resurrended two paid ...What are views on Cerwin Vega AT60 ?
@brentb5303
@brentb5303 5 лет назад
These are part of my collection. I have never heard the at-60's unless they are the same as the at-10. The at-60 was a European model but you see some of them over here because they were sold on military bases. I would put money on them being excellent cabinets by Cerwin Vega due to the time period and being an AT series.

I honestly would say the d-5 blows away the at-10 but the AT-10 ain't no joke. Cerwin Vega built some awesome cabinet's back then. I rolled with at-10's for a long time. I got some at15's and d-9's but I thought they were comparable. But d5 to at10 d5 all day. But both awesome cabinets in my opinion.
@brentb5303
@brentb5303 5 лет назад
I might do a side by side video of the two so you can see. The at-10 seems to be working it's ass off to keep up with the d-5 but it can do it but the d-5's are loud clear and pound doing it effortlessly by the looks of it. The AT-10 pounds but it is absolutely slapping to keep up. Both awesome cabinets though.

I got some D5's in mint condition recently and I was unfortunately not that impressed with the bass. My Klipsch KG 4.5 which have only a single 10" woofer have noticeably more mid bass kick and go lower than the D5. I'm driving them out of a Denon avr 2802. Is this not enough power to 'wake them up'?
@brentb5303
@brentb5303 3 года назад
I don't know maybe the Klipsch just put out more bass. Hard to believe but entirely possible.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone knock the bass on a set of D-5's. These are some serious bass monsters. IMHO, if there was anything to knock, it's the almost nonexistent midrange.

Which are more impressive sounding , these or the pioneer hpm 100?
@brentb5303
@brentb5303 3 года назад
It's been over a decade since I've listened to a pair of HPM 100's. So not listening side by side it's hard to say. If memory serves I would say the Pioneer has a fuller sound in the mid and upper ranges. They both can get very loud and sound good doing it. The Vega's might have a slight edge on the bottom end. I dated a girl who had a pair of the pioneers run off an all pioneer system. Really awesome sounding setup but pushing less watts than I ran these off of so my impression may be a bit off. The Vega's are probably easier and cheaper to find than the Pioneers. Both worth having and repairing if needed.
@SinnerSince1962
@SinnerSince1962 7 месяцев назад
@@brentb5303 There are a lot of variables with any make of speaker. As you mentioned above, the HPM's do have nice midrange, so they do jazz and vocals well. The problem with both the CV's and the HPM's is they need quite a bit of volume to open up and breath, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I've found a nice listening speaker at low to moderate volumes is the Dynaco a25.

I would keep a look out on Marketplace or Ebay. Those CV 12's were used in many different models and they show up all the time for decent prices. I would say anywhere between $50 to $125 is a good price. People ask $200 frequently for a pair but that seems high to me.

@@brentb5303 I did check but prices were to steep for my taste. I went ahead and ordred a couple of Sound ordinance 12" subs dual 4ohm. Hooked them up to 8ohm load and they sound incredible. Not original anymore but I'm ok with that
