In Japan, there is an ancient tradition of fearing ogres as terrifying monsters, but one theory says that the true identity of ogres may be that of foreigners.
I believe in the lore he is and was taken to be experimented on, not sure by who, but the monks kidnapped children, the red eyed carp are also related to red eyed enemies, it's been a while since I've invested in the lore, sorry
Nah, bro built like Jack Hanma. Whiter than snow. Eats plain white rice with sliced bread and tap water. Watched Fight Club once. Probably listens to Eminem in between chest reps. Consumes copious amounts of anabolic steroids. Pays exclusively with his credit card.
@@thosebloodybadgers8499we've come full circle, the shaved Chained Ogre looks like one of the sons of "The Ogre". And ngl, Jack still looks like a roided up Eminem to me, that impression never left my head
He’s most likely some poor slave suffering from gigantism, send as a gift by European merchants or church(at Sengoku period church was notorious for trading slaves)
Thinking back on it, the blonde hair must mean these guys originated from overseas. Perhaps they were Englishman who got washed ashore from a shipwreck and were unfortunately driven mad from drifting out at sea for too long. Either that or tortured by the Japanese upon discovery?
Most likely jesuits who have been captured, tortured to the point of madness, they had their tongue cut off, and obviously, they were experimented on with the sediment of the rejuvenating waters!
I love how in Sekiro you have the reperesentation of how japanese saw Finlandese and people fron denmark in folklore, making them savage giants. They were to them.
@@OneNationUnderPug Interestingly, in early folklore depicting ogres, they could be quite wealthy, powerful, and have magical capacities. The giant in the tale of Puss in Boots may or may not have been an ogre himself.
There is no real evidence in-game to support anything regarding the ogre's origins. Same with the giant bull. Sekiro is pretty thin with the lore descriptions in general in comparison with the other games post demons souls. The only thing you could point out is that the ogres have brown-blonde hair, but seeing as they don't seem to be human, there really is no reason to assume that they are "vikings" Fan speculation should remain exactly that. Theories, on the other hand, need to be backed up with a reliable source and a valid, logical interpretation stemming from those sources. A theory isn't simply a mindless hypothesis backed up by nothing.
There's an amazing contrast between the concept art and the in-game model, where the concept looks more lifeless, like they've given up and are in this enraged state, but the in-game model looks like they are holding onto something that keeps them living, despite being chained up like this for I would assume was quite some time.
Is it ever explained why and how these Ogres exist? Like, how are there several giant humans similar to him and why are they all chained up, other than maybe to keep them under control.
There are some records of people from western countries accidentally landing on Asia. Considering how tall the Armored warrior is, Ogres are probably just western dudes at very wrong place
It's a reinterpretation of how japanese saw Scandinavians, or generally people from Denmark and Finland, usually referred as giants. Talking another language that sounded like gibberish. And portraying them as having big noses and big hands. Tengu mask also come from this idea of western people.
He's basically just a big man, does anyone know why the game text refers to him as an ogre? In Japanese legend they have specific ogre creatures (oni) and he's definitely no oni
According to ancient Japanese, there is a theory that foreign sailors, seen for the first time, appeared like the legendary Red Ogre(赤鬼) from folklore due to their massive stature, robust muscles, bright hair color, hairy bodies, sunburnt red skin from long sea voyages, and reputation for being hearty eaters, heavy drinkers, and loud. By the way, the Japanese name for this Chained Ogre is also Red Ogre.
His hidden facial features make me wonder even more how this is an ogre? Some sort of niche japanese folklore? Just looks like a tall ass man to me. Or is it something in the world of Sekiro that made em this way. Cuz if its some hidden for why this human is an "ogre". Is he an Oni? Very intrigued
@@Archi_3007 maybe. In any way, he looks very Eastern European/Slavic. Quite archaic features, he looks like a man from the Yamnaya or Corded Ware culture. Pretty cool, if you ask me. He doesn't look like a femboyish anglo nordoid f****t😁
Him looking like that I'm surprised this guy still got moves but I can see why he'd be mad I mean I would too if someone shaved me and made me almost naked. Also I never knew but he seems foriegn? Probably to be experimented on?
