I just bought a super xl automatic. Great compression, and fires right up. A bit worn, but not dirty at all. According to the lot number, it was built in '81. Not bad for a 40+ year old saw!
My Dad just gave me his and its this clean and he cut with a whoooooooole lot but cleaned it after each use! It still ripps balls today and its 45 years old same age as me!
If you are not getting any spark with the spark plug test on a chainsaw, how can you determine if it’s a bad coil or bad points and condenser? I would like to put an electronic module on my Homelite Super EZ, but need to know if the coil is good.
Hi TheChainsawGuy, I just acquired a SXLAO (UT10045A). With my compression tester, what is the most accurate way to test this saw? What is an ideal compression vs. an acceptable compression if I plan on using it a couple hours a week? Thanks
Is there a practical way to make the bottom filled oiler an auto oiler? I have three XL12 saws with bottom filled manual oilers and would love to have them auto oiled.
I'm not sure. The auto oil pump fits behind the clutch and it seems to me there wasn't enough room on that model, but there's a pump and drive gear for an XL-12 for sale on ebay right now for $13.49. However, my Homelite XL-12/SXLAO parts list doesn't show an auto pump for an XL-12 UT-10080-D. Maybe other years of XL-12s had pumps. You'd have to remove the clutch to see if there's room.
Good morning chainsaw guy, I've got a Homelite 360 automatic. According to the owner's manual it's a super xl. I'm having problems with uncontrollable high RPM. The machine has always run fine but then about a year ago I started it up and it was like the throttle was stuck wide open. I'm cleaning it now and have made the idle stop screw adjustment the high and low mixture adjustments according to the manual and I still have the same problem. I have made sure that the throttle valve closes all the way and the choke travels freely. I'm stumped.
Did you figure it out? Remove the grip cover on the opposite side of the throttle handle and you'll see the head of a pin that runs sideways toward the oil pump. Pull it out with pliers.
You sure can though you'll want to be careful not to hit the filter with a pinpoint high pressure blast from your compressor. Too much force and you risk disrupting the fibers in the fabric of the filter. Rinsing with warm soapy water can do the trick as well.
Basically the saw you WANT sitting in the trunk of your car for the apocalypse.....because it will Always start. If you could only have One saw to carry around on an island, it would be This, it's probably the most Notorious Tank-Saw on earth, lol.
i dont think so. same engine size although the xl12 may come stock with a 16" bar instead of and 18 or 20 inch one and the oiler is manual on the xl12 versus automatic on the super xl
There is an engine difference...XL12 had 54cc.....and Super XL had 58cc. Also, XL12 had Manual oiler, and SuperXL had Automatic Oiler with Manual override. I've also been told to NOT trust the "oiler" as a means of trying to identify the Model...because apparently Homelite made Both models with Auto oilers and manuals......LOL but apparently 99% of the homelites you see will be......XL12=manual......SuperXL=Auto.
