A documentary film about a 300-mile, round-the-clock, small-boat adventure race in Florida from Tampa Bay to Key Largo. The race is held every year in early March. This one was in 2013.
Excellent. The best documentary I've seen about these RAID adventures. It was great that you could put together clips from lots of the participants, even while under way in extreme conditions. Really gives the watcher a feel for how tough the route can be, the challenges you meet with wind and water and what kind of physical and mental shape you have to be in accomplish this.
I've been looking for this video for a long time. I saw it a few years back?..and it really inspired me. I'm about 90% through building my own goat island skiff so I can also experience adventure! Thanks for putting this up again.
@@NoahJohnson7452 it turned out great. I made a birdsmouth mast out of fir and made my own spars and oars using a spar gauge. I have done a fair bit of woodworking before but this project introduced me to many new techniques. Of course when it was all done I had to go out and sail her and that first trip was my first sail ever! Since then I sail it fairly regularly in the summer. Its sort of uncanny fast and that was a great surprise. Its a little wild if its gusty as a trade off. Theres not a lot of room in this boat for cruising but maybe ill build a bigger boat for that some day, like a welsford pathfinder? Again Id like to give you some credit, this video was the catalyst, the straw that broke the camels back and got me to move this project from the dreams to the done column. Thanks!
Always had a plan for doing the Boon & Crocket River run on the Missouria river, using my kayaks. Although there is a lot of backed up water by dams. Needed a little better sail system than kayaks offer. So, I thought about outrigger sail systems. I came across a pleasant design with a very low draft. TriRaid 560. I have now started process in building this craft. I seen this Everglade challenge about a year ago. I really do have plans on joining such an event someday soon. But most certainly better be getting familiar with a new craft first. River run should do the trick. Plenty of sailing on the backed up water areas.
I've heard it said that ALL boats must portage at Flamingo, but some are clearly too large to portage even on rollers. QUESTION: must participants who take the outside route to Flamingo portage? What's for them to portage? I have a Dovekie and would like to make the EC, but not if a Dovekie must portage at Flamingo even if taking the outside route. Thanks.
