The Chantays were one hit wonders while at Santa Ana High School, Ca, because their parents wouldn't let them tour until after graduation. They told me that as a bar band in late 80s, Dana Point, I bar tended and they were too much fun. Lots of retired Hollywood types came in (Tab Hunter was nice, Wilbur from Mr Ed was cool, OJ not so much) these guys were the best. Heard Pipeline 3 times a night, love them forever.
A friend of mine from our freshman year in high school (1965) played guitar exceptionally well. He could play about any song that was requested and one of his personal favorites was Pipeline. Hit did it justice.
The very first Rock song I ever heard on the Radio when I was 8 years old as my parents were driving to Indianapolis. Here I am at 67 and still Rockin', harder than ever. Nice job guys.
This was the 2nd song I learned on the organ/piano. Farfisa and fender super reverb. What a way to put a smile on peoples faces. If I could I would play again! Fantastic group.
WHOAH ! Back in '68 I owned a Portable Farfisa Duo Level Keyboard. I tooled around with it but I NEVER ACTUALLY "PLAYED" IT ! Like , "'WAW !"" 👅😭👅 (I Couldah been a Contendah ! "🎯")
Fabulous...still have the single here in England, bought with my meagre pocket money for 6 shillings and thruppence ha’penny😂...thank you so much for posting....have never seen them before in all this time.
the design is so good he should copyright it. I have loved surf music for 62 years and I have lots of original vinyl records of many of the original surf groups but I never surfed! @@rn1358
Bob n others host a Tuesday jam in Newport Beach that I attend every now and then.. A few years back I had him in the original drummer (before he passed) sign my fender strat, similar to the one he played on the LW show..
And I was there! The Surfaris played right after the Chantays. Truly a memorable experience that I had to capture. Bob Berryhill signed my bands business card! Truly blessed! Glad you like 👍 please subscribe
Love this song. I used to to listen to a cal state northridge college radio station that played comedy on Sunday nights. The show would end with “they’re coming to take me away” and then Pipeline by these guys. This was the era of stations going off the air at night so the end bars of Pipeline always seemed so dystopian and apocalyptic to me and then it was followed by radio static and dead air. Creepy as hell. I loved it.
When I was a kid they would sometimes practice in the garage of a house at the end of our block. I'd be riding my steel wheel skateboard around and hear them. Or maybe I had clay wheels by then.
It says the Surfaris on the drum set but title says the chantays, these are two different bands. Surfaris made wipe out a hit chantays made pipeline a hit. So which band is this?
Do these guys miss the late Brian Carman when they play this or what? Like Dick Dale, Spickard has come a long way since Lawrence Welk and a much better guitarist later in life.
@@joekurtz8303 Funny you say Killer Dana...we cover that song in my band! I remember as a kid wanting to learn that song but I didn't have the chops yet....glad I have it now! Definitely one of my favorites!
