I work at maccas and my managers are always on my case to upsell I don't though.Guys the reason we ask if you want a meal is that you get customers that say "A cheeseburger thanks" and then when they receive the food they say "doesn't it come with fries and a drink".
Funny skit, but having worked at Maccas in the past, the reason they ask if you want a meal or just the single item is because the POS System McDonalds has requires you to be specific, not because they're trying to upsell you; it's a huge pain in the ass to have to find the item, click it, remove it and then re-add it as a meal, so most people at the counter save themselves the trouble by just double-checking with the customer.
thesliMepisodes Great. This has nothing to do with my comment. An anecdote about working at McDonalds and using their POS system (as a teenager, not as someone who has to support a family too) is not the 'remedy' to the gross transgressions made by mega-corporations. Being able to spew out facts doesn't denote any level of intelligence. It makes you look desperate to cover for your moronic fuck up.
banj0 Look banj0 ill put my moronic fuck up to you this way. I didn't realize how much i hurt your feelings so i removed the comment. However, the truth of the matter is people care more about the gross transgressions of McDonalds and the dirty fucking shit they put in their food, more-so than their fucking POS system. So as for being desperate to cover my moronic fuck up, at least i didn't work at the devils palace known as fucking McDonalds you clown.
AussiePoker King Business is booming because the shit they put in their food is addictive and tastes good, all whilst having corporate advertisements telling kids that they are a healthy and a fun place to be. That doesn't mean it is good for you. Props to you then, but there's plenty of people just like you in the world. Millions actually, so don't feel bad.
AussiePoker King I assumed you felt bad due to the fact you are telling your story as if i should feel sorry you were in that position, when the reality of it is millions are. What is with this mooching and loser business? You are aiming that at me yet i was the kid that put my head down and achieved results. Yet here you are talking to me about respect lol. Plus you have stated that opinion twice, starting to sound like something you say to comfort yourself. Hahahaha! Not addictive? No there is nothing wrong with the foods fast food companies sell, or the way they advertise. Whatever makes you sleep at night you keep telling yourself those things. Quote "I had access to free Hungry Jacks 3-4 times a week from 14-15 yrs old", you just contradict yourself.
I work at Mcdonalds(for summer job), we arent trying to upsell, we always ask if you would like the meal because people change their orders to a meal, or they just say big mac or quarter pounder then suddenly say oh i want the meal, thats why we do that, as for asking for condoments they are free, and if we dont ask then the customer will come back and have to wait in line or wait till the employee takes the orders before giving him the sauces.
They're not all like that though. Three years ago I worked at a different Mcds in another part of town which was owned by a different person and I told the managers that I refused to upsell but they didn't mind since they always had me taking orders. It probably helped that the owner hardly ever came by, since she has a life and trusts those who she hired to run the company for her.
Haha this inspired me to try this at Subway in Brisbane about 3 and a half years ago. It was the night of Origin, and my plan didnt go down too well the guy serving me got angry and threatened to bash me
True, so sometimes working on the Grill Area is heaven, before shit goes down and some customer order more than they should and run out of product sometimes it just drive you crazy. Holding on that and this.
Dear Whooper (I love your username!) =), I would like to say, thank you, to you, for taking the time and effort to both upload and share this video with the youtube family =). I hope you have a lovely day, Whooper! =). Kind Regards Ray (From Sydney, Australia) =)
I also work in fast food, McDonalds in fact. And the system being used in this video does not have features like you say. The second a burger is ordered it appears on the back area screens, regardless of if it has been paid for or not.
(1/2) I work at Mcds right now and I'd only ask if that's just the burger or the meal because in my experience, alot of people would say they want nuggets for example and then when you tell them their total, they'd be like oh that was the meal btw. So now I just ask to save time ringing in things. I despise upselling with a passion, but the owner of my store is a modern day Scrooge and demands you always upsell.
@pbawesome1312 But he probably ordered all the fires as well. If you order a burger, some fries, and a drink, they ask you if you want to make it a meal because its cheaper.
LMFAO!!! :D I love The Chasers! I also love how Aussies call McDonald's "Macca's" hehe. I'm Canadian, and here we'll sometimes call it "McDick's" or "Micky D's" LOL :P
Well yeah, he's making fun of the fact that that is the training is to do that every time, and that no matter how ridiculous the order the training program still has to be followed. They don't design the program to clarify the order, it's to provide a subliminal suggestion to get people to upgrade their order. When you clarify and they say 'yes' it doesn't mean that's what they wanted, it means they are gullible.
That is true some people in the morning Order a Sausage muffin sandwich and when they get there order they freaken expect a Sausage muffin with egg on it. lots of complain on that.
actually mcdonalds dont upsell anymore, other fast food giants still do however. Suggestive selling isnt exclusive to fast food giants either...it can be a reminder of something they've missed, oppurtunity to try something new, a value for money option, and probably the biggest reason why they upsell is that it creates sales growth (hey, they do exist to make money)
"One day I went to a McDonald's. I spent an hour trying to find a product whose name I wasn't ashamed to pronounce. Finally I went to another restaurant." I got a bigger laugh reading your comment than I did watching the video.
I used to work at McDonalds, (fuuuck, was so glad to escape!) some managers did say to upsell, but most didn't care. With the whole meal thing though (and sauces), it's about clarifying the order more than upselling. Some idiots in the public do not understand the difference between a lone burger and a meal. If you only give them a burger when they wanted a meal, they get upset! So you have to ask every time. Really, McDonalds doesn't exactly attract a very sophisticated or intelligent market...
So I hate to burst anyone's bubble here... but having worked with these registers before, I can tell you that there is a "maximum items" error code that will pop up if this kind of stunt were to occur. It is possible however that the manager stepped in to override the error.
i was expecting it to be way more than $150... that's pretty good... maybe... still gotta be better value than any of the KFC bucket things that are, like, $40 each for about 10 bits of chicken...
Don't Worry I know those feels, Drive Thru is the most annoying because no one says in a meal.. plus my managers are so lovely with every order we have to suggestive sell.. so yes Maccas is pretty horrible.
@droughtmbac Instead of saying "In a meal?" How about saying, "Just the burger by itself?" Stop assuming we want more than we ask for, and start assuming we want exactly what we ask for.
@mostpowerful But a Big Mac costs the same in Pounds as it does in Dollars... so it's not actually cheaper for Australians... though it would be for tourists. So come spend some sunny money in Australia :)
@MissCaseyP um no, the chasers are right, ur coment is a bit valid, but has another loophole, all macdonalds people ask how may i help you when you are clearly 8 feet away from the counter looking at the signs to make your decision, nothing gets me more angry at them! so i say just wait a mintue please, in a smart alec tone >:)
