The cheapest way to install trolling motors on inflatable kayaks

This video is to show how to install a trolling motor on your inflatable kayak without spending a lot of money or putting in a ton of effort to permanently install it onto your kayak. I've spent only $10 for this setup without making any adjustments or permanently installing the motor onto the boat so I can continue to inflate/deflate the boat for storage. I hope you find this video helpful and please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you! Very glad this helped Yea I knew there were more people who would be in a similar situation so ur comment made this all worth it :) I will continue to make more videos around how we can modify and improve our kayak/boat experience, let me know if you have any questions or let me if u have some cool ideas I can use as well

Very cool indeed brother. I noticed on the bixpy site that they have a power bank - solar panel combo.

Nice I'm about to mod my Intex K2. I was planning to use 1-2 foam boogie boards to mount the seat to. Or even to get the seat higher with the dense form you find in hardware stores. Usually it comes in white/pink or blue. Used for insulation for homes. Do you by chance have the link to that seat?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 10 месяцев назад
hi! sorry for the delayed response here, I totally understand the seat issue and I'm constantly thinking about improving as well. For now, I'm just using the kayak seat that I got from this link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0953N1YBR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and i just put this seat on top of the seat that the kayak came with. I actually have elevated it by putting two of the blowup seats, hope this helps!

Great video! I’m in Santa Monica and plan to hit MDR and redondo beach as well. I recently got my first kayak(Blackfoot 130). I saw your other video fishing out in palos verdes. Great stuff. For the price, do you think the bixpy is worth it or should I go a bit cheaper on the trolling motor such as Newport brand
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 8 месяцев назад
thank you! honestly, i thought the bixpy was very pricey at first.. the more i use it i feel it's worth the price, it's pretty great in terms of battery life/durability etc. but on the other hand, i haven't tried other trolling motors either so I'm pretty bias here haha. I do like the fact that it's rechargeable though

Hello - great video!! so much so that and I just purchased all the parts to do the same!! - please can you let me know the lenght you cut the wood to - thanks!
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! and that sounds awesome, hope this setup will help you enjoy more! the length I cut was 4 feet. I purchased a 6ft board and cut it. also in case you want extra stability I drilled holes in the wood so you can tie it to the kayak if you want. I also made another video recently on installing fish finder on the same wood board if you're interested :) hope all works out and let me know if you have any questions

On your other video I noticed you had added a rope thru the 2x4...was it for further support and/or stability, or did it serve a different purpose?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 11 месяцев назад
Yes! the rope was solely for additional stabilization, I noticed it wasn’t totally needed the second time I went out so I dont use it anymore and didn’t include in the video but think would be good to mention for sure, so I drilled in a couple holes on the top of woodboard to do

Hey, nice video, I normally go out with the wife in our itiwit X100 3 seater so I would need the motor set up towards the stern/rear of the kayak and I would operate it and the wife sitting towards the bow/front. Whats your suggestions please?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 2 месяца назад
For the inflatable kayaks, the best and easiest way to just cruise with your family without much setup is to use the electric motor and attach it as fin motor. So instead of attaching the fin on the bottom of your inflatable kayak, it'd be the motor and a battery would be on top with you in the back somewhere, and you can steer with your paddle. Example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FrppQme6L3s.html This is the same motor i have which i attached on top but with different setup you can convert that into a fin motor. this way you don't need to do all the modification and setup on top and just attach on the bottom and go. You can adjust speed on your wrist. If not, then you'd need some sorta modification like i did on the video which will take some time to build out depending on your kayak. There are some videos on youtube on setups like that with electric trolling motors here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KXx_x-AT9V8.html

Can you share the source of trolling motor and battery. great video!!
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 11 месяцев назад
Thank you! so for my trolling motor, it's called bixpy, you can go to bixpy.com/ to check out the product. It is more expensive than regular trolling motor so if you don't want to spend on it, you can totally use regular trolling motor with a lithium battery as well. But the benefit of bixpy is that it's waterproof, the battery can float, it's rechareable etc. there are pros and cons for sure
@hntrains2
@hntrains2 11 месяцев назад
Super-cheap and simple, indeed! What motor is that? Have you also tested it on the water? How about paddling? Can you still paddle with that setup on?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 11 месяцев назад
thanks for asking, yes been on the water with this setup for a while now and you can actually see some of my other videos where i'm going out to fishing with this setup. It works really great, i'm very comfortable just steering left and right with my hands and just have a completely relaxed cruising experience. I do bring my paddles just in case anything goes wrong with the motor or battery dies or anything like that and you can paddle if you just tilt the motor up and level it horizontally so your paddle wouldn't hit the motor when paddling. The motor is called bixpy, it's more meant for hard kayaks or paddleboards but works great since my kayak is actually lighter due to it being inflatable, so the motor provides more power and pushes faster. But if you don't have this motor, you can use the other regular trolling motors plus a lithium battery exactly the same way and the regular trolling motor would be a lot cheaper too.
@hntrains2
@hntrains2 11 месяцев назад
@@Fishing_Fables, thank you for your detailed answer! I have seen those videos now - and more! Do you get good autonomy from the motor? Can you add a second battery to it? Also, how do you decide which boat to use (the Intex or the Saturn)?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 11 месяцев назад
@@hntrains2 the motor lasts surprisingly long, that also depends on which speed you use, the bixpy motor has 1-12 level and the higher you go, the less time you can use it, i think at 12 level, you can use for about 45mins but at mid level around 6, I used it for at least 3 hours. I normally put at 5 or 6 and just cruise, that will last you a long time. I can get another battery but don't think I ever need it if I just use mid level speed. So for inflatable kayak, intex should be fine but for actually inflatable boat (use with outboard motor), I'd go with saturn, saturns boats are more durable and meant for heavy usage as well.

great and cheapest setup.! However, it will be much more comfortable if you can put your seat little higher, like >8 inch high.
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 11 месяцев назад
Thank you! and I totally agree, one of the many things I'd love to modify is the seat level so I'm not sitting close to the ground, and > 8-inch sounds perfect and the most optimal elevated height for kayak fishing as well, great insight!

sure, the motor is made by bixpy and the model is J-2, i believe they came out with a new model called K-1 so looks like they don't sell on their website but i was able to find other sites that sells the model that i own. mobilityparadise.com/products/bixpy-j-2-outboard-kit-electric-trolling-motor?currency=USD&Google%20Shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwoqGnBhAcEiwAwK-OkbRRIxItkn1aG28KKAfxVrMBVJWI1z3M5XBHMJ6tFhb2Z2LOM4tebxoCjEkQAvD_BwE

will it make the kayak want to pull to the right?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 10 месяцев назад
Actually the weight of the motor did not pull the kayak down once it was in the water, I think once I’m in the kayak, my weight was heavy enough to bring the balance even tho one side is heavier with the motor

How long does the batter last?
@Fishing_Fables
@Fishing_Fables 6 месяцев назад
The battery can last longer if you use lower speed. From 1-12 speed level, if you do 12 all the way, you would get 40-45 mins, if you do 6 in middle it can last over 6 hours so i usually just put on 5 or 6 and cruise which is about similar speed as you would pedal on kayak. if you just troll on 2-3 speed, than it can last all day

@@Fishing_Fables enjoyed the video but you are wrong. I have that exact inflatable, i bought a trolling motor for $150 that has 50lb thrust, got a luthium 100ah battery for $120. Spent mayyybe, $75 in pipe and hard expandable foam to fill the pipe for added strength. Works great. I get a full day easily on the battery.

You do understand that most inflatable kayaks do NOT have those things to place the feet supports right? Or even the fishing holes. So getting a tube or board across the deck is not that easy. The title of this video is misleding. Good work though.
