I had an intriguing conversation with Bishop Richard Holloway, former Head of the Church of Scotland. He is a most intelligent, interesting and pleasant man.
Join us as we explore the human lust to be good to others, and the impulse to give. We navigate the delicate balance between belief and scepticism, with Holloway confessing that he's “between gods” and me reflecting on being, technically, an agnostic.
Throughout our conversation, we critically examine the poetic value of religious myth and its impact on human culture. We confront the age-old question of whether religion offers consoling fiction or genuine comfort in the face of life’s uncertainties.

Dawkins is an Aries. This is said to be the most naive and simplistic sign. The reason why this applies to him is because he chose a target that is impossible to attain. I understand he wants to bring religion down because it causes wars. I too saw it that way 20 years ago. But if you check Google Trends for the search word 'God', you will see it has risen steadily in that time. In other words, Dawkins has made not the slightest difference. He should rather have spent his time trying to get religions to accept and be at peace with one another. I feel very sorry for him as he has failed dismally.

I have completely and utterly dismantled every one of Dawkins fallacious arguments, i have torn down all his arguments one by one and in their place erected my own much larger more powerful arguments. This is why the man has ducked me for a formal debate for years now he knows he has no refutation of my arguments.

Leave it to a Scotsman and their deep love of common sense to walk a tightrope between God and Science with great success. The Bishop is always a welcome counter to Richard. Other "opponents" of Richard's could learn much from the bishop's grace and intelligence. One of the few religious folks that can't just be humiliated with great ease. He actually makes valid points in favor of religion without coming across as a zealot. Such a lovely man.

Christians say Jesus is God, then they say, God was born from marry, then they say God walked, talked, sleeped, eat, was killed. Then, they say say God Jesus died... Muslims: Allah or God is one, creator, Almighty. HE not sleeps, eats, walks, dies etc. HE is not born to any one, nor Is associated with any partner. No son, no father. HE gives us life & death. HE creates any thing from any thing. HE creates life from non-living. HE created Prophet Jesus from Marys womb without any male intervention. HE is the supreme creator. Jesus Is prophet of Allah or God, Almighty like other prophets. Jesus or Isa or Isaiah son of Mary is alive and will come back not once again as prophet and will die & buried too like others. The last Prophet was Prophet Mohammed pubh with the last Message Quran. Jews reject the Prophet to sent among non-jews, they think they are superior so are in ego. Iblees shaitan because of ego and let failed to followed orders of Allah or GOD to prostate before Adam in the beginning. So, Shaitan was expelled from heaven with curses because of ego of superiority said, "I have been created from fire and Adam with soil". Jews too killed or crucified messengers or prophets of Allah. Christians should know not only Isa son Mary was created without father but Adam, Gabriel, Angles too were created without parents. More over see the power of Allah, EVa a female, mother of humanity was created from Adam (a male). Think over it, Allah has the power to do anything beyond our imagination.

That’s literally what Christ taught
@Stupidityindex
@Stupidityindex Месяц назад
@@jacksonelmore6227 Christ taught that faith is worthless, since no one can move mountains by their obedience to orders. We know them by their works: Training to know Jesus Christ by indoctrinating children with fantasyland vocabulary. Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy. So let's get you literate. Galatians 13:3 "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us." Jesus Christ says faith is worthless as a mustard seed, when it comes to telling mountains to move, with expectations of obedience. More nonsense comes from those of God & spirit, having given us Moses: World's worst navigator, making progress with one foot in The Garden of Eden. Jesus comes again because he failed the first time. Why are Jews not buying the New wine of Jesus Christ being put in the old Jew wineskin by God. Religious belief is great, especially when you control what children are taught. Matthew 19:14 KJV: But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. God made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel? God & Faith have a perfect record of doing nothing, so we have the sayings, God helps those helping themselves & nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital. It is by God & Faith, The only sign given is that of Jonah. Jonah 1:15-17 KJV So they took up Jonah (he offered to help) and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice (perhaps his family & friends, or a goat, who's to know?) unto the LORD, and made vows. It Is by faith Jonah was picked up and tossed overboard, being mindless, he asked for it. What audacity, what gall, to suppose a deity, so unworthy, theologians & sacred text exist? Are we all to give a pass to this suggestion? It is by faith in God we have Jonah. It is by faith in God we forget Moses was the world's worst navigator, leading as if travel were done with one foot in The Garden of Eden? We are now mocked: Galatians 13:3 "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us." Now, we must be born again: nonsense. At least there are not circumcision shops in town. The Jews have not bought Jesus Christ in 2000 years because god & Jesus are both fictions. Luke 11:29-36 "As the crowds increased", Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. The Joke is having a miracle in every chapter. The link is to Moses, who we know as the worst navigator in the world, with one foot in The Garden of Eden. Gal 3:13 It is by faith in an incompetent deity, we have scripture & prophets outside of fiction. The Book of Jonah 11 Then they said to him, "What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?" For the sea grew more and more tempestuous. 12 He said to them, "Take me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will quite down for you; for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you." Rsv It is by faith Jonah was picked up and tossed overboard, being mindless, he asked for it. Men have always known God was fake, She would have no need for sleep. My sheep hear My voice being the _slavery_ of sheep. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:" Men have always known God was fake, She would have no need for sleep. My sheep hear My voice being the _slavery_ of sheep. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:" Now we watch the death of all, ourselves now smitten, for the success of our _state_ of gall. "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all" Galatians 3:13 King James Version 13 John 10 Quote from Emperor Julian the Apostate mid 300s AD… "Let no one, therefore, deceive us by words, nor disturb us with respect to providential interference. For as to the prophets of the Jews, who reproach us with things of this kind, what will they say of their own temple, which has been THRICE destroyed, but has not been since, even to the present time, rebuilt? I do not, however, say this as reproaching them; for I have thought of rebuilding it, after so long a period, in honor of the divinity who is invoked in it.” The third temple prophecy was fulfilled centuries ago! This recent temple rebuild prophecy is a huge deception! See videos: New research expands on J Atwill's discovery that the story of Jesus is a parody of Emperor' Titus' victories. Paul the Apostle: Liar and Conman | James Valliant, Rabbi Tovia Singer Psalm 22:16 Dead Sea Scrolls and some manuscripts of the Masoretic Text, Septuagint and Syriac; most manuscripts of the Masoretic Text me, / like a lion This verse, which is Psalm 22:17 in the Hebrew verse numbering, reads in most versions of the Masoretic Text as: כארי ידי ורגלי, which may be read literally as "like a lion my hands and my feet". Materialism and imperialism have led people to destruction in the last century. It is not possible to be happy with material gain alone. Human nature, by nature, exists with peace, family ties, love, respect, faith and cooperation. Atheism drags people into emptiness, and the thought of disappearing after death makes people sad. People are filled with the feeling of eternal existence. A believer will attain eternal heaven in return for his good deeds.💗💞💗

@@brightroarttttbbbbthat’s a lot of talk. You can’t blame Atheism for imperialism, that’s ridiculous. Imperialism was committed by deeply religious countries. But BTW, it’s irrelevant to what is true and real. Also, you leap from that to implying that just means material gain. A false claim. Illogical and dirty. Family, love, and everything you list are physical things, you don’t need to make up or buy myths to have love, that’s absurd. This petty worry that without delusion we would all be sad, is juvenile. Atheism isnt Nihilism, it’s actually a joyful revelation that all the guilt, threats and horrors taught by religion are false. Some people think the best way to deal with things is not by denial, but by understanding. Since everything does die, maybe if we weren’t lied to from birth, the realization of death wouldn’t come as such a shock. And seriously, doesn’t eternal existence in heaven sound suspiciously childish?

48:40 The market economy has distorted our relationship with animals. That's a very thought provoking sentence because it makes you think about the conflicting duality between our love for animals and on the other hand, our desire to consume them out of necessity. I've often criticised vegans for being wimpish, but I often wonder if I have the nerve to kill and prepare an animal with my own hands. This has even led to me to think whether I have any right at all to eat something that I wouldn't be able to kill and prepare myself.

Professor Richard Dawkins will join Richard Holloway in a discussion, on 1 April, on the meaning of life at the 2008 Edinburgh International Science Festival (EISF), it was announced today. The two men, with opposing views on religion, God, and science, met previously at the Edinburgh Science Festival in 2006. Dawkins also spoke at the first Edinburgh Science Festival 20 years ago in what EISF director Dr Simon Gage describes as "one of the most talked-about events the Festival has ever staged."

Here is the problem with Richard Dawkins and all that follow him (followers of scientism, not science, scientism as a bias): 1) Science needs to begin to explore the possibility of life outside of earth of any form, shape, or dimension. This would require an inquiring, open mind (that's what scientific inquiry is btw) 2) That would require people to stop dismissing every single idea just because they don't have an immediate proof. If an immediate proof would be a requirement then theory could not exist. Which is literally 100% of all explanations for the origins of the universe. 3) Human experience should be included as a phenomenon that requires attention. Rather than dismissing people experiences, we need to look into them more intensely and with all scientific rigor. 4) Science would need an additional discipline to replace what we call "paranormal" for "transcendental science", a science that looks beyond the natural biological processes. Until we can open our eyes and look for the possibility of life outside the earth and beyond what we currently define as death, we won't find a viable solution for our most imminent problem. It is ridiculous for people like these scientists to IGNORE humanity's biggest problem simply because they want to bully religious people. WAKE UP PEOPLE. JOIN THE REAL SCIENCE OF MAKING SCIENCE. TRUE INQUIRY HAS NO LIMITS.

The man who devoted his life to giving new lives to many prisoners after he had had his life changed by Christ is a man I can admire. He was never sold anything remotely to do with sky genies or fairies at the bottom of some garden (typical Dawkins language, so you have learned this much from your hero!) The Jesus I met came to me as I was reading Luke's gospel specifically to show up his wrong attitudes and instead he met me in every page I read. at @1:09:25 - dawkins asks what if you get to heaven and find out your god was baal? - the best answer ive seen on this is answered by c.s. lewis in his book - the last battle - where a Follower of Tash ends up meeting Aslan, and asks just the question that dawkins just asked - with the reply: As soon as I had gone in at the door, the first wonder was that I found myself in this great sunlight (as we all are now) though the inside of the hovel had looked dark from outside. But I had no time to marvel at this, for immediately I was forced to fight for my head against one of our own men. As soon as I saw him I understood that the Monkey and the Tarkaan had set him there to slay any who came in if he were not in their secrets: so that this man also was a liar and a mocker and no true servant of Tash. I had the better will to fight him; and having slain the villain, I cast him out behind me through the door. Then I looked about me and saw the sky and the wide lands, and smelled the sweetness. And I said, By the Gods, this is a pleasant place: it may be that I am come into the country of Tash. And I began to journey into the strange country and to seek him. So I went over much grass and many flowers and among all kinds of wholesome and delectable trees till lo! in a narrow place between two rocks there came to meet me a great Lion. The speed of him was like the ostrich, and his size was an elephant's; his hair was like pure gold and the brightness of his eyes like gold that is liquid in the furnace. He was more terrible than the Flaming Mountain of Lagour, and in beauty he surpassed all that is in the world even as the rose in bloom surpasses the dust of the desert. Then I fell at his feet and thought, Surely this is the hour of death, for the Lion (who is worthy of all honour) will know that I have served Tash all my days and not him. Nevertheless, it is better to see the Lion and die than to be Tisroc of the world and live and not to have seen him. But the Glorious One bent down his golden head and touched my forehead with his tongue and said, Son, thou art welcome. But I said, Alas, Lord, I am no son of thine but the servant of Tash. He answered, Child, all the service thou hast done to Tash, I account as service done to me. Then by reasons of my great desire for wisdom and understanding, I overcame my fear and questioned the Glorious One and said, Lord, is it then true, as the Ape said, that thou and Tash are one? The Lion growled so that the earth shook (but his wrath was not against me) and said, It is false. Not because he and I are one, but because we are opposites, I take to me the services which thou hast done to him. For I and he are of such different kinds that no service which is vile can be done to me, and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oath's sake, it is by me that he has truly sworn, though he know it not, and it is I who reward him. And if any man do a cruelty in my name, then, though he says the name Aslan, it is Tash whom he serves and by Tash his deed is accepted. Dost thou understand, Child? I said, Lord, thou knowest how much I understand. But I said also (for the truth constrained me), Yet I have been seeking Tash all my days. Beloved, said the Glorious One, unless thy desire had been for me thou wouldst not have sought so long and so truly. For all find what they truly seek.

Another excellent dialogue! Judging from the questions, there are quite a number of creationists in the audience. It seems to be a product of American society that has spread, first and foremost into the English speaking countries. I grew up and lived for thirty years in Central Europe. That was quite a while ago, and I have never encountered a creationist back then. Probably a lot more widespread now, thanks to American influence and influx of Islamic culture. I live now in New Zealand, and it feels like people in general are getting less religious, but on the other hand creationism seems to be growing stronger. It feels like most religious people lean towards Intelligent Design, but Young Earth creationism is quite prominent as well.

The discussion that starts at 29:15 about "Why Christianity Rather Than Another Religion" made me think: Because just as I was born "speaking English" so I was born "thinking Christian." Christianity is my native tongue - I speak it fluently. I was born to Christian parents in a Christian world with a stunning church on every 10th corner or so and all the religious music around me was Christian as were the symbols and services, pictures and stories, etc. I breathed in Christianity as I breathed in air (I met my first non-Christian when I got into high school). Similarly: I grew up hearing English and eventually speaking it fluently - I feel that language in my bones, so to speak. But I've studied French too, on and off, all my life, and yet I'll never speak it fluently. I'm always really translating in my head. It will always be a foreign language. And I feel there's a similarity between that experience and my study of, say, Buddhism. I'll never "speak" it natively. PS I a Dawkins-style Atheist now, and I'm almost perfectly fluent in that language, but it's taken decades of round-the-clock practice!😅✌️

I've encouraged my catechism students to read The Selfish Gene. What are the Seven Deadly Sins but survival instincts carried out to the the extent where the individual benefits at the expense of the group? And it is actually in our own self interest to practice the apparent self sacrifice mandated in The Ten Commandments. Dawkins has called himself culturally a Christian. However I believe he has played a large part in destroying that culture. I do not mind valid criticism of religion. In fact it is our moral obligation to try to steer our neighbors from wrong and self destructive behavior. What angers me about Dawkins et al is the false history that has become part of The New Atheist culture. There is a large body of misinformation being spread by this clique. The New Atheist fiction that angers me the most is Neil deGrasse Tyson's slander against Isaac Newton. Neil's slander is a cautionary tale against Intelligent Design. Tyson tells us that Newton just stopped when he ceded his brilliance to God. Tyson claims Newton could have easily done Laplace's n-body mechanics in an afternoon. After all, Newton single handedly invented calculus, the law of gravity, his laws of motion in just two months on a dare! But Newton was content with the explanation that God kept the solar system stable and he just stopped. Presumably before he turned 26. Luke Barnes wrote an excellent piece on Tyson's claim: Neil deGrasse Tyson on Newton (Part 1) Newton did not just stop. Newton returned again and again to the problem of modeling multi body systems. In particular he spent a great deal of time and effort trying to model the 3 body system of the Earth, Moon and Sun. Tyson's claim is demonstrably false from the get go. And then Euler tried. Euler is considered by many to be the greatest mathematician that ever lived. Laplace held that opinion. And then Lagrange. Perhaps some readers have heard of the the Lagrange Points? Euler discovered L1, L2 and L3. Lagrange discovered L4 and L5, the points leading and trailing the orbiting body by 60º. More than 100 years after Newton Laplace built a model muilti-body systems that somewhat explains the stability of our solar system.. But he built on the extensive efforts of Newton, Euler, Lagrange and d'Alembert. But that does not stop Neil from shouting with complete confidence that Laplace's 5 volume Mecanique Celeste was a simple extension of calculus that Newton could have whipped out in an afternoon. -------------- And all the accomplishments that Tyson has Newton doing in two months is also wrong. Building calculus was the collaborative effort of many people over many years. And it took Newton 12 years to develop his ideas on planetary motion. And he had some help from Kepler, Huygens and others. Historian Thony Christie has taken thorough looks at the part of Tyson's wrong history. I'd go into more detail but I've already made a wall of text. -------------- And Tyson's fiction regarding Newton is just one of many examples. -------------- I do not know if there is a God that hears my prayers. I am agnostic. Regardless, I pray: God, if it be your will, please lead Richard Dawkisn to do the right thing and attempt to combat the misinformation being spread by the anti-theist cult he has helped spawn. This I ask in Christ's name. Amen.

Do you know that millions of Muslims believe that the prophet Mohammed flew to the Moon on a winged horse to cut it in two with a sword to make a new Moon & the Earth? They hold that nonsense with the same credibility & authenticity as Christians hold their ridiculous 6700 year old Earths & everything alive today ascending from what came off a boat 4500 years ago! 😂 Religion has nothing to be proud of when it comes to the advancements of man, particularly the Christians who follow a book that celebrates & instructs on slavery & homophobia! Almost an atheist? That's an oxymoron, but it's also moot, thanks to the following timely discoveries... (A) Allow me to introduce the first model... ...that explains how one entity can be three entities at the same time... (1) A three-piece puzzle, we'll say is made out of paper pulp,* represents God; (2) each piece represents one of the three Persons of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So, the question is: How can this puzzle explain how each of the three Persons are also one Person, and not one-third of the one Person? (3) What is the puzzle made of? Answer: Paper pulp. What are the three pieces of the puzzle made of? Answer: Paper pulp! All three pieces of the puzzle are the same essence as the Puzzle itself! Isn't that easy? So easy, even a six-year old can comprehend it. ---------------------- * In this exercise, paper pulp only exists to create the puzzle. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (B) Now, for an even greater discovery... An Empirical Proof of God's Existence: (1) The word 'true' entails a cognitive presence;* (2) The laws of the universe were true before they were discovered by corporeal life; therefore... (3) The laws of the universe were true before corporeal life existed, identifying the existence of a non-corporeal entity that knew the laws were true. The syllogism proves that an intelligent entity knew the laws of the universe were true before corporeal life existed, but is this non-corporeal entity God? Since the laws of the universe were always known to be true by this non-corporeal entity without the necessity of thinking about the laws of the universe, we therefore identify the infinitely knowledgeable entity with no need for thinking, which entity is known as God. -------------------------- * Only mind can divine a truth.

This is an extreme situation, one where it hardly matters what your beliefs make you do. The guards on the train, their beliefs, and the choices they make based on them, is a far more interesting topic. Far more revealing of the dangers inherent in the myth. Religious faith may be something we arrive at on our death bed, after all options are off the table. In that case it may all very well be for the better.
