I was fascinated by this car back in 1963 when I was 9. I did have a plastic model of it then that is now long gone. I wish I still had it.

My favorite car they produced. I only hoped it would have actually been sold in dealerships

In 1962, I was 16. I saw this Turbo Car ON DISPLAY at the "Valley Fair" shopping center in Santa Clara, CA. It was amazing. At the time, it was so futuristic in appearance. I loved the rear design. Not really too crazy about the front design. It didn't match the rears futuristic look. The "1969 Thunderbird" had a similar looking rear end design minus the turbos! They also had a better looking front end. I know, I owned one in the Landau model.

Imagine having an engine in your car that idled at 8,000 RPM and reached 50,000 at full throttle.

Growing up in Ann Arbor someone in our subdivision got one of those to drive.

There Must Be A Reason Why We Don't See These Anymore 🤔

Yes - it's because Chrysler crushed all of them when they decided not to go ahead with the program. Only a very few escaped that fate. Jay Leno has one of them.

Cool. I own a 74 Charger and a 66 Coronet. Would love to turbine-swap on if it were available. 😎

I used to work in film to video transfer. The person who did this transfer did a bad job. The original film isn't this bad, i can assure you. If he turned down the white balance to the proper level it wouldn't be yellow.

What is the advantage of turbine?
@glimpseofgood2464

it can run on anything with at least a little bit of gas in it, like perfume, and they are smoother, im sure theres more but thats what i know of.

Almost zero pollution. And I always wonder why they killed the project.I think Gas companies didn't like this. Some of these escape the crusher. Jay Leno has one. 🐻

@@bigbear5981While turbines produce no carbon-based pollutants, they actually produce nitrogen oxides (NOx) in quantities that exceed those of regular internal combustion engines. NOx emissions are the primary reason why turbine engine development took so long, and eventually reached a dead end.

Even though they turn at much higher RPMs, they are mechanically simpler and don't require nearly as much maintenance as piston engines. Despite what the narrator said they aren't very fuel efficient, and I think that is ultimately what did them in.

I built the johan model twice! Never mind those plastic boring electric cars! Plastic cars are 1/24! Now thats what id drop 60 grand on! One of those beautiful turbine cars! Not some pastic electric POS that self combusts!

Sorry to be critical but my gosh, couldn't you've gotten a hold of the original film? My retinas hurt after this one. 😖

It is so awful that they crushed the great majority of these cars when they decided to not go ahead with the program. The owners only had them on loan from the company - no one actually got to buy and own them. Why did they not remove the turbine and put a regular V8 in them and sell the cars so they would actually have a future, instead of crushing all of them when they decided not to go ahead with the program? The interior details on these were beautiful. What a waste.
