Alcohol built this Country. Nearly all colonials brewed or distilled. Alcohol was safer to drink and lower alcohol beverages were for children. Taxes and tariffs paid a lot into the government coffers which is why ATF or precursor agencies were formed to control of taxes and money for the coffers. Just an opinion based on cursory data.
